3rd Annual DG Christmas Craft Workshop..Pt.2

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

Ok I got mine finished I think I didn't understand where to use the glue at but used lots of tape. How did you get yours into the triangle pattern? I told ya'll I'm not good at reading and following instructions on my own, lol but wanted to see if I could do this with out help and it turned out pretty good yea. I made copies where I can make some more and wondered about using an out line of an iris flower for the front of a chirstmas card, do you crafty ladies think it would work. Here is a picture of my card. I'll be sending my money out on Thurs when I go to town, Sorry for the delay but didn't want to be around any one and get them sick. Thanks for all the fun today and the many more things I can use this for. Susan

I'll gladly pay extra too! Hey Betty I obviously wasn't around for last years victorian santa, any possibility of getting a copy of the patern from you? and does anybody here do counted cross stitch?

Victoria Harbour, ON

I do cross stiching, limited though..Jeff (son) bought me a program but it's on my old computer, says he'll drop in and put on this one...you can put any photo into the program and it will give you graph and colors to use...great if you wanted to do animals or children portraits..must remind him to do it..

Susan, although not the pattern, it's cute...

Now if you scan back up to where I had listed the numbers done in which pattern paper it would have turned out..off you go and look, will be helpful for your next one...

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Oh I wish I had a program for that! this is the pattern I am working on now...I hope I can finish before April!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Let me know, I can send a little extra if needed to help with postage....

I did two small counted cross stitch projects....my daughter (zhinu) does a lot more...she is working on a large Celtic Knot for her Brother in Law's Wedding gift...she did a beautiful Tiger for me.......

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

That is Beautiful! I can't begin to imagine doing a project like that!!

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

WhooHooo! My Card showed up today.....now if I can just time to work on it....Have Spin Class tonight:(

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I have to stop alot because after awhile all the green starts blending together...LOL

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

That will be so pretty when done! Lovely colors, and I can see why you can only do a bit at a time.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Just beautiful. It is one of those definately take your time pieces. It will be gorgeous I'm sure....

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

My next one is of the Crab nebula...one of my boys is really into space so I have a pattern for the crab nebula and the rosette nebula...Takes a lot of black though!

Hanson, KY(Zone 6a)

Betty do you have a shipping scale and use the usps site to figure how much the postage will be?

Sometimes my problem has not been what I'm mailing that weighs so much but the darn box.

I wouldn't know where to tell you to get them... but alot of my large fall bulbs & tree orders are shipped in a super strong green plactic bag...you'd be amazed how much a bag verus a box would cut the weight down, providing the kits are unbreakable...sometimes you might only need to lose a ounce or two to greatly reduce the cost.
Just a thought.

Jane

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Jane you're I never thought of that!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Came downstairs for a break..doing a class on cards next Tuesday..need about 100 cards to keep me going..lol..
Didn't win at t.v. bingo..so hoped I would..

As for the packaging..that's without a box but 1/2 roll of 4" tape...can't imagine how you'll all open it..

Love the cross stitch..so many hours put into it..a labor of love for sure...I have and bought mom a specialty light with magnifying glass to work with..excellent investment, however I keep forgetting I have it and don't use it...my mom did a cross stich quilt for me..it's actually at the quilting group getting quilted..forgot to tell mom that..once Jeff gets the program up and running again if you want a photo done, I can do it and d-mail to you...he was going to visit for the weekend but I'm shuffling off to Buffalo one would say..drats, why do they always seem to pick weekends that I'm away to say they are coming..I'd have a complex but I know they have no idea that I've made plans so can't be an excuse for them...I'll have to mention that to them..lol

Trisha, glad you got your card...last pouring of santa faces was this morning..couldn't find my mold, had to unpack the one I was sending you so I could use it..lordy I have no idea where I put them....so all of Judy's santa faces are done and dry ready to paint...between card cutting and painting santa faces tomorrow at work will fly by..sure hope no calls come in, I've no time for real work! lol

Darlene called me tonight, hadn't spoken to her for a few days, she wondered how I made out at ganz..of course I told her like a bandit..she proceeded to tell me that the Wednesday class had a discussion re Christmas gifts amongst themselves and decided that they would pool in their $$$ and purchase a few goats for villages in Africa...think it's a wonderful idea...should have told me before I bought them all gifts...hmmmmm You may have seen the commercial advertising such....

Just tidying up the craft room, girls are coming to paint tomorrow and I have class in the evening and company spending the night so she can do double the painting (all day and my evening class)

Can't believe the mess...would have left it till morning IF I thought I'd be up on time but if I leave it that would be the time I'd want to sleep in....wow do I have some dusting...all that fine dust from the workshop here in the basement seems to get on everything...

Night everyone

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Night Betty I loved chatting with you...can't believe it took me this long to find a thread like this! My grandmother always tells me I was born in the wrong time frame, she says I get too much enjoyment from the "lost arts" so she's been bringing her patterns out for me painfully slowly but she's been going through them and giving them all to me.

Does anyone here do Bobbin Threading? My bobbins all got broke in the move (I have a feeling the Ex had a little something to do with it) and I can't seem to find a place to get some new ones, does anybody know of anyplace to get some?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I have no idea about bobbin threading, but I learned the hard way that I don't like doing counted cross stitch. No patience for that, but embroidery, now we're talking!

I'm going to have to take a break from all of this computer jazz, or just not be on all day long lol, as I need to see if I can get some pillow cases embroidered before Christmas, that's the trick word, Before! LOL

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

Ok I reread the instructions and I'm still lost on how to make the paper work right, I told ya'll I'm crafting changled, lol, but my hubby was really impressed with my card that I did all on my own and he said he would read the instructions Fri when he's off and help me to try it again and maybe between the two of us we could figure it out and then he's going to help me get a timplet of an iris out line and see how it would look on a card, I have some card stock I can play around on. He has some really neat out lines of flowers as he free hands them and then cuts them out of metal and makes flowers that look real. I don't do counted cross stich, I forget where was on what number, now embroidery I use to do a lot of and need to get started on again, have a lot of old patterns that were hand drawn, it was the only girly thing my two grandmothers could get me to do, I was raised by a bachlor uncle and a divorced uncle with 4 boys that the youngest one was 15 years older than me, yes very spoilt but was made to share with any one that needed it, so I can do a lot of boy things just not many girl. I'm so glad I found this site, I've enjoyed learning so much. Everyone Have A Good night. Susan

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

Good Morning everyone. Susan

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Crissy, what kind of embroidery do you do? I love crewel work but haven't done it in a while. I would like to try a redwork piece or greenwork or bluework. It's been a really long time since I did any......

Victoria Harbour, ON

Did a few kits as well Barb, they were purchased from Mary Maxim..you could find site on internet...it's in Ontario but they ship all over..

Drats, could kick myself..was into some boxes this morning and I found some Christmas table setting matts to put forks/knives/spoons in..would have been perfect for this project....perhaps next year if we have one....

Glenview, IL

Good Morning!

I've enjoyed see all the Angel Cards, I think they are all beautiful.

Trina, wow gorgeous Cross Stitch piece, love Peacocks...You got some patiens with that.
I don't cross stitch, can't deal with the counting, But I do enjoy embroidery.

Ahem!! Haven't seen Liz post an Angel yet...lol better start txting her to hurry, hurry...hehehe.
Just joshin around Liz, Hope your life is settling down a bit. Hows Yiyah?
and How are you feeling? Better I hope that was just a hayfever scare, if not you better snuggle up and get some rest.

Betty...I will be making a few small Victorian Santas! they are gifts...woohoo can't wait. I am also making my list for Michaels.
Need small styro balls, got plenty of material...and added to the list is some card stock and specialty paper! LOL, you know me first one is always the test...ROFLOL won't even tell you how long it took me to make the first one.

OK, here is my dilema. I used the template to tape over, ( with the lines) right? But I did mine inside out!! so I am to layer opposite the way I did it, I think....You know what i think I'll blow this up and make a big one first, lol then i can comprehend the little one....scratchin my head again, will have to think on it as i play janitor...

Susan, OMH gosh!! Your DH's garden Flowers are awsom!!

Well, my car still didn't pass the emission test so back to mechanic, grrr...right now it will have to wait till later, got to drop kids at school and then go to do the building! Going to be another busy busy day for me.

So, if I don't get back on till later, you enjoy! Hope to see some more Angels when i come back.

Glenview, IL

What ya mean if we have one???
LOL, we'll be buggin you in August again on what you are planning on.
Oh hahahah, crackin myself up.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Thanks for the tip about Mary Maxim, Betty. I have made sweaters using those patterns. I didn't realize they had embroidery patterns too. I'll need to check this out.
Judy, sounds like you will be busy with all your crafting plans. I want to see!!!!! I'm sorry I wasn't in on the Victorian Santa. That sounds so nice.
Busy day here - my SIL just moved back east from Iowa and needs valances made so I'm off to the machine. Thank heavens for material stashes!!!!

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

Thank You he's not bad for a man that is a weilder and heavy equpment operator/county road forman and I came home from a meeting and told him 3 years ago I had to take 3 door prizes and it had to be some thing with an iris and the only ones I had found were going to cost $100 a piece, so he went out and made the first ones out of tank steel off of a little picture I found in a mag. and nows it a hobby. I'm proud of what he can do and all of my kids got his talent yea. Well Im off to cut out my aprons for that swap, I had one but decided I liked the pattern I found better so back to sewing, Everyone Have A wonderful day Susan

Victoria Harbour, ON

You are a card Judy..you have me laughing...

Think you'd laugh if you see my desk with 10 santa faces, paint etc. what I don't do for you girl..thought those santa's were behind me...ooohhh in cleaning up this morning found a bag, guess what, an entire Victorian Santa kit...don't know why he was put away...

Cleaned craft room and woodworking shop for nothing...just before leaving for work Darlene called to say she had been up half the night vomiting so cancelled her class...too bad, Marg from MacTier was coming and she had a pocket full of money for me re next Tuesday evening class..could have had more spending money this weekend..lol..

Oh well, it's clean for my class tonight....

So disappointed, looked for Meijer Store in Buffalo/Hamburg area but none..thought with the amount in Michigan and Ohio surely they'd be all over the USA ..NOT! it's much the same as Walmart but I found much better sales...won't tell mom about the store because she'll be saying, let's go to Ohio..I know her..

Judy and Susan and whoever is finding it difficult..., when you have your materials together, sit down, relax, take a deep breath and don't rush ahead with the card...

Take note...

On a piece of paper, take your 3 choices of scrapbooking paper that you've cut in strips and folded in half and cut a 1/2" piece of each...

Put 1 of your choices and mark #1
Take another piece, your 2nd choice and mark #2
Take the last piece and mark it as #3

These 3 colors alternate..

#1 on 1
#2 on 2
#3 on 3 then
#1 on 4
#2 on 5
#3 on 6 then
#1 on 7
#2 on 8
#3 on 9 then
#1 on 10
#2 on 11
#3 on 12
#1 on 13
#2 on 14
#3 on 15

What you will be left with is a little center negative space not numbered..on most I put either silver/ or gold/ or alternate plain color depending on what paper I've used...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Susan it's beautiful..nice to have that talent...

Now it's your turn to shine, and shine you will...follow the instructions above and you'll be making cards galore....

If any of you can't find or download patterns, let me know and I'll send you copies of the ones I have, including our Canadian Maple leaf done (I do it in vibrant orange/red/yellow) halloween, Easter, valentines, about 10 Christmas ones...OR maybe you just want to keep your card from me and call it quits..lol

Betty are those ceramic? Did you pour them yourself?

Glenview, IL

Oh yayayay!! Thank you, thank you thank you.
LOL. I have a small one left from last year, but i am plumb outta styro balls.
Searched all over , no can find. Got to make an early one for a gift...so been working on that too.

Oh, Betty...would it be too much trouble to ask for 2 faces to be of color, I mean like , mahogony, not too dark, not too light, know what I mean? Yep can just imagine what your desk looks like, lol.

Can you believe i am only making 3 stocking this year? Whew! But i've been hire to bead a ketychain, and I'll be making a couple of lighter cases...Beads beads and more beads...

OH My gosh, Thank you foor the Card making list! Printing it to work with.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sit down quietly Judy for 10 minutes..once you do one and see the outcome you'll be find with all others...

Now you ask..I've 2 more Christmas projects in the coat storage ..not sure if I have brown or brown/red..thanks goodness you got to me NOW as I'm painting them..

Trinawitch..no, not ceramic..I bought 2 molds over 15 years ago that were meant for chocolates...converted into using a mixture of polyfill/white glue and water..

Trisha did umpteen santa's last year..if you go back to our first thread at the beginning I showed our works of art from that workshop...couldn't believe it this summer when I was at a garage sale, there was another mold, couldn't find it anywhere...

Promised it to Trisha so am sending it of Friday BUT in the meantime couldn't find my molds so had to use hers..lol -

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, did you check the $$$ stores? know ours has them..saw them the other day, also, Michaels must have them but you'll pay much more for them

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ohhhh Judy, just had a brainstorm, if after checking those 2 places you no can find...look in the Dollar Store for cheap ornament ball, the kind that they've just wrapped ribbon around, test it out, most likely it's styrofoam...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, mixing paints here, no brown tones but red/black..
Gave a 1st coat...now to continue painting..lol

I'd say once you have that beard glued and only a portion shows they'll be fine...

hey Betty I've used candy molds to make everything from chocolate to soap! amzing how a kids eyes light up when he gets to make his own soap and it's a car or a duck or a teddy bear!

Victoria Harbour, ON

It is fun...one of the highlights of my job as Recreation Co-ordintor was working with the kids and seniors..always gave me such a sense of satisfaction..think that's why at this time of year, however busy I am, I always find time to do workshops both at home and at community centers....

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I try to participate when my health allows....but mostly I'm stuck at home! LOL

Roswell, NM(Zone 6a)

Ok now I see where I made my mistake, I didn't cut it or fold it in half or use the pattern on the paper just did it on the back of the card trying to follow the paper pattern and I would love to have copies of your card patterns, I have a $ store that carries card making packets and every thing is just $1 I spend a lot of time there, lol. Jimmy is going to draw me out a iris design and see if we can make a card like you sent me out of it so I can make them for the iris club I'm in. Well better get off have laundry started and naturally the winds up so may not get to hang them out, have a daughter coming out to help dr. the colt, today is the day for the meds that burn the wound, yuck and I still haven't gotten my aprons cut, I may make these for the daughter and future daughter in laws, too and then give them a duck tape bag I want to try this weekend and then I'll have Jimmy make them some rose buds. You guys have got me going Thank You I needed the boost. And when I go to town tomorrow I'll go by Hobby Lobbie or the scrap book store and get some more paper and try the card again. Wish me luck, lol Susan
