Today's Weather in Your Garden - 55

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

... yes, but it would take up too much space. ^_^

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

BEAUTIFUL day.

My "fault" it's warm again I packed up all my shorts and tank tops.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee - I am about to do the change-out.

South Hamilton, MA

It wqas supposed to be warm again today but didn't quite reach 60. So we only had 2 days of Indian Summer. Got the siberian iris bed taken care of yesterday, but just some weeding today.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We hit 75!

Ffld County, CT(Zone 6b)

NYC is the greatest! Boston is up there too. I couldn't decide which is better because they are both different. NYC is definitely more interesting due to the wide mix of people, IMO. Best food in the world, too!

Beautiful day here. Too bad I had to work and run errands. Spent an hour or so in the garden, although about half an hour was spent running back inside to identify a fungus and some bugs - turned out to be (as I suspected) a stinkhorn fungus and (I had no idea) carrion beetles. Yuck.

Poughkeepsie, NY(Zone 6a)

Today it got up to 73 here! Gorgeous day! Last for a while I hear. First week of a 2 week vacation for me. Love doing yard work this time of year!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I like Boston, but so much more to do and see in NY. And way more variety of restaurants.

Enjoy, Tom!

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Allison, Jen and Lucy - Yes, we'll both be busy out there in the jungle tomorrow. We just took a walk in the dark along the river. 78 degrees and pretty warm at 7:30 p.m. until we got to the river and had some breeze the rest of the walk.

All of you sound pretty busy out there in your gardens too. Enjoy the Fall weather up there.....translation: can you send me some cool fall temps??? LOL

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

hey Louise - your yard looked great today!!

just kidding:)

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

LOL, Bill! Hank said he counted all of our stones and marked them with a secret pen, so he'll know which ones are missing! And by the way, the next time you're there, will you please rake out the pine needles in the garden while you're there? HAHAHA........you didn't do anything obscene to Bud, did you? I miss that sweet hunk of rock!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

mid 60's today. When to the barn and got a ride in. I also cleaned a horse stall.

Warners, NY

Sunny and breezy and beautiful here and I should be cleaning up things like dahlia stalks, raking areas to plant daylily seeds before it freezes, as I have decided to try and plant as many in the open ground as I can. Maybe too inspired by reading what other daylily nuts are doing I made far too many crosses and have collected far too many seeds so now I have to clear ground to plant the seeds and I hope to get them lined out--for a change! Naturally my osteo-arthritic back went again just when I needed to get some work done. Not your usual back pain, this stinker put me in the hospital in1981 and after two weeks of technicolor nightmares from morphine the ortho guy dug out a couple of discs and it has been a pain off and on ever since, usually putting me out of commission just when I need to get something done---wrecking last Springs planting season, easing up for the summer, then, with one sneeze going into spasms just when I need to finish off the year in my garden, which I have now named Eden After the ,Fall due to briers, sumac, poison ivy, rampant weeds and clay more suitable for bricks and flower pots, though they have closed the brickyards and pottery. factory. So beaver now dam the streams and a third of my ten acres is under water. I collect the sticks the beaver leave when building their lodges and when feeding on bark and I always have a bunch of walking sticks so I can use one or two. when my back acts up. Last week I had to go to a meeting at the Social Security office because my disabled son lives at home. The SSI office is in the Federal Office building so getting in is fraught with all of the security measures of Homeland Security. All went well as I hobbled in with my four foot beaver carved stave---until---You can't take this in says the security gal. Why says I.It's not a real cane says she, but I can't walk without it I said. So she calls her supervisor and they confer over whether a four foot stick is the same as a cane. I am thinking of Gandolf in Lord of the Rings and am about to say, You wouldnt take an old mans walking stick away from him would you? And thinking, if this were Gandolfs staff I swear I'd turn you all into toads. And, finally, after much conferring they let me in with my stick. I still wish I could change a few people into toads , but I guess it's just a good walking stick.-----------------Weedy

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

they can be toads in your mind... sometimes it's just as good

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

48 and cloudy. Breezy. Temps will drop throughout the day. Weather not promising for the game tomorrow night.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

36 here this morning - think there may be another hike in my future today

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

54 and raining. DD has a football game to march in tonight. Doesn't look good for the woodwinds to play.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Warm in the upper 80s here, but not bad sitting in the shade of our front porch. We hacked away this morning and it's looking better here already, but the sun becomes an issue quickly, so we have to hurry and get the work in during the morning hours. The cardinals have found that we are back (Carl and Carla) and they are ticked that we haven't bought their food yet. I also need to go buy some compost tomorrow to plant all the babies I brought down.

Weedy - Gandolf would have been proud of your tenacity at the security desk!
