Bontanical Garden Sale

Mobile Botanical Gardens had their big Plantasia Sale, this weekend. I just love to go. They have all sorts of plants and they are reasonably priced. I bought a Foxtail Fern, and Hosta Francee, and a good sized Aloe Vera plant.

How do I care for the Aloe Plant? I have never owned one before. It completely fills up a 10" nursery pot. I have it on a table about 3 ft from an east facing window and about 4 ft from a north facing window. It gets bright light but no direct sun. Are these good conditions and location for this plant..

I can just ignore it! Watering occassionally, maybe every two weeks? What a great and easy plant I now how. : )

Thanks a bunch TrinaWitch... You are so helpful to me.

I have Aloe saponaria: http://www.floridata.com/ref/a/aloe_sap.cfm
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/54452/ that can be a pest down here. I got a teeny little "pup" back in the early 1980's from a gal I worked with. I kept it in a pot for a few years and then made the mistake of planting it in the ground. Well ... we ended up with hundreds of these things ... spreading everywhere. I can't tell you how many hundreds we dug out and threw away! I don't have them in the yard anymore, just a couple in containers! They are wonderful to have for burns. I just cut off a piece, cut the thorns off, slice it down the side and smear the aloe jell over the burn. Many years ago one of my nieces was in Florida on vacation and got a pretty awful sunburn, she was very sore, I slathered the aloe all over her arms, legs and back and it worked like a charm!

Aloe's are succulent plants and prefer a well draining potting medium, they are very tolerant of drought conditions.

Well Then... That plant will "always" be confined to a container.. The pot it is in is slam full. There are actually quite a few separate plants in it to make one.. Should I separate them and repot?

I would take one fan out and start it in a small pot (for backup :)), then ignore them both.
