I kept it in a pot for a few years and then made the mistake of planting it in the ground. Well ... we ended up with hundreds of these things ... spreading everywhere. I can't tell you how many hundreds we dug out and threw away! I don't have them in the yard anymore, just a couple in containers! They are wonderful to have for burns. I just cut off a piece, cut the thorns off, slice it down the side and smear the aloe jell over the burn. Many years ago one of my nieces was in Florida on vacation and got a pretty awful sunburn, she was very sore, I slathered the aloe all over her arms, legs and back and it worked like a charm!

Aloe's are succulent plants and prefer a well draining potting medium, they are very tolerant of drought conditions.
