I recieved a few plants in not so good condition.

Your succulent pictured here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=7193823 might be Kalanchoe marmorata: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/57334/ but I'm not sure. I don't know succulents real well.

(Zone 1)

Or, as QC said, it could also possibly be a Sedum. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/50569/

Yeah... they all look very similar. The best thing I could probably do is take it to a nursery and see what they say.

or post it in cacti & succulents they'd have a really good idea

You have a paid subscriber to access the C & S Forum. I see Leysha is not a paid subscriber so she wouldn't be able to post there.

I keep forgetting that! Hey Plantlady guess what I discovered the seed trading forum! LOL

I have a quick question. I accidentally broke off one of the tips of one of the big aloes and it smells horrible and it has a bit of yellow on the inside. Is there something wrong with it? I've never seen (or smelled) this before! I'd take a picture for you but my boyfriend already threw the broken part away.

The gooey gel inside an Aloe is medicinal. I don't think it smells very nice either but to me it doesn't smell horrible ... I guess it's all depends on who's smelling it. If you scroll down this page a tad it shows what the inside of aloe vera should look like: http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.summithealthsupplies.com.au/aloe%2520gel%2520cross%2520section.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.summithealthsupplies.com.au/article_Speeding%2520up%2520wound%2520healing%2520natures%2520way%2520of%2520assisting%2520your%2520bodies%2520healing%2520process.html&usg=__HYgvb90uIF7V_TZMlPVH35uSBGQ=&h=432&w=800&sz=26&hl=en&start=5&um=1&tbnid=owPps-9I5btBQM:&tbnh=77&tbnw=143&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dimages%2Bof%2Baloe%2Bgel%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DX%26um%3D1

If the inside of your plant looked like this it is normal.

Richmond, VA(Zone 7a)

It's very odd. My tilting aloe doesn't have any smell or real color to the inside. But the other has a tinge of yellow around the outer parts and has a pungent smell.

Hi Leysha, I have been watching this thread and when I read about the yellow inside the aloe and the bad smell I wanted to tell you that I have grown aloe for years but gave my last plant away to someone with a bad burn. Wouldn't you know next I get burned! My daughter brought me a few stems of her MIL's plant and thought one of the kids stepped in dog poo due to the odor in the car. The odor hit me as soon as they got out of the car - aloe stem in hand! It was also yellow inside instead of the clear gel it's supposed to have. Her MIL had it outside where the rain comes off the roof of the house and we have had a LOT of rain! Needless to say I didn't use it on my burn and the plant got moved.

I grow a lot of different aloes in my yard and many of them have a nasty odor including the medicinal aloe A. vera. The yellow ooze is also normal. It may stink but it will still be useful on a burn. Many aloes may be different inside to some extent but most of them contain a clear fleshy gel. Different species have different amounts from what I've seen.

So even though both my aloes are the same type they can still be different on the inside? Hence the yellow in one and clear in the other. Do you think it's a random occurrence or does something in the environment change them sometimes?

Hi Leysha, I think the succulent plant is Kalanchoe pinnata. I just game the one I had away to my neighbor, here is the link to it here on Dave's GArden...Look at the pictures they have of the plant, looks alot like yours

Hope this helps you out.

The succulent is some kind of flowering kalanchoe,

The peach flowered plant looks like brugmansia or datura to me. Take a cutting and pot it up, and grow it in a sunny window for winter. They need a little more moisture than the succulents. If you leave the big one outside, I would do it in a protected spot and planted in the ground.

The aloe, I would just lean the pot up against something to hold it up and not worry. If the plant is too big for you, put a baby or 2 in a sunny windowsill and enjoy the burn salve they can provide. Throw it outdoors, come spring.

The philodendron selloum is a tough plant... I would add some more soil to your pot or tuck in some long fibered sphagnum moss. Fill it up to the stem. In nature, they climb up trees until they find the conditions they want, then they mound up. I wouldn't water root this epiphytic plant. The aerial roots are very good at getting enough moisture in the jungles, even when broken from the rooted plant. The roots will grow out of the stem as the plant climbs, that's what it's supposed to do. They can take bright indirect light in the house (or even dappled sun). Outside, I put mine on a shaded porch for the summer so it can stretch out. Have your BF read how cool this plant is and maybe he'll appreciate it more. Look up exoticrainforest to see how someone made a greenhouse jungle to show him some cool info about aroids.

I know some of these were already answered, but I didn't want to cut everything out of my post :).

No worries :) I just put all those problem solved edits so new people wouldn't get confused. Not sure if it has helped much though.

One more...

Just so you know.. This was immediately after I had just watered it. Thus the water sitting underneath.

that is cool daisy!

Daisy, that is not Philo xanadu in your last two photo's. Here's what xanadu looks like: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/218799/

I'm not sure which one yours is but it sure is gorgeous! I think you should post a photo over on the Plant and Tree Identification Forum: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/plantid/all/ to see if you can get an exact name for it!
