FROST ON THE GYPSIES, Hello Fall

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Guess it is inevitable, threads get too long and winter rears its' chilly head. Time to think in terms of staying warm and winterizing the garden....guess we will soon have days of gray.....

Been thinking about the sights and smells and things in general that say fall. For me, it is cool crisp air with a hint of wood smoke and pine wafting through it, and big fat chrysanthemums adding color and green spicey smell to the garden.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

For me its burning leaves, looks like a forest fire around this block some days.

Good morning everyone! Welina me ke aloha!

Do the trees still change color in the Fall back there?

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

yes Dave they still change color in the fall, before they make a mess everywhere

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Bye JJ have a good weekend and catch the rest of you later got to get busy too.

Keaau, HI

Any photos Trina?

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Yes Dave they do. Red, brown, yellow and orange. Very pretty until they hit the ground.
Actually this year is wierd because alot of the trees are still full of leaves.
Nobody seems to use them for mulch here either. They all burn them.

My trees are still small or in the case of the weeping cherry dead so the leaves I get are blown into my yard.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Things change, Dave, but Nature tends to be a constant. The trees are all sporting their fall finery, especially up north...hasn't started quite yet down here....amazing how excited folks get over leaves dying....grin. Up north, the Leaf Peeper tours are starting and will be going on til beginning of November or so.

Thanks Flowers. I agree that sometimes just looking around at the earth's majesty can be a spiritually up-lifting thing.

JJs, my neighbors don't get to burn leaves....I snitch them for my compost pile...lol

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I will take the camera out with me today for ya... nice day for a walk, not too cold not too hot....better plug the camera in then so it can charge while I am eating my lunch that the kids are all snearing thier noses at

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Everybody have a lovely day...catch up to ya later...hiho hiho out to the garden I go....grin

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Bet Kassy will show us some pretty fall follage. Have a Great Weekend ALL

Making compost with the leaves sounds good. Does anyone use them to make leaf-mould for growing ferns and other plants?

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Just for you Dave

I do for ferns. but I only have one fern left, a japanese painted fern, it's in the house. I dug it up when the neighbors dog kept destroying things in my garden,

Taking these off of my porch so they aren't very good. Suns in the wrong spot!

We just had what they call the Scenic Drive around here. Was verry pretty this year, last year the leaves had barely started turning it had been so warm.

yeah but It could have been warmer JJ...Gonna go dig the first hole...Austin bolted on me, so I gotta do it by myself...back in a few

Keaau, HI

I guess the trees dropping their leaves is a way for the forest to lay down a blanket to protect the earth for Winter.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

You're very welcome Dave. But they do not compare to your pictures.

Moon I may get some of the neighbors leaves this year, but going to let them rake them in a pile
first!! hehe

Last one and I have to go get something done.
Ahuihou, Dave and everyone.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Guns, BF's friend stopped by and said something about a gun that was way off, so I politely corrected him and then we started arguing, the whole I'm a girl so I don't know anything routine, so I brought it up online and showed him I was right!
