Coffee Break #20 - Baseball weather??

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

60 minutes special tonight says H1N1 was around in the 30's and 40's and so people born before 1950 have immunities. One good thing thing about geting old.

When I had to have "mandatory" flu shots they would ask "are you or could you possibly be pregnant". There awas always the "possibility" so I would say yes and they wouldnt give it to me, thank god. Saw Dr. Oz who said his wife and kids will NOT be taking the H1N1 shot....ummm

Your welcome Carrie.

Best of luck on your surgeries Victor and Wren. I'm sure you'll pull through just fine.

Those snacks look good. Are they like potatoe chips?

I'm wondering what kind of beating that hellium kid got for blowing the gig. What smucks his parents are. They should be beaten.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - interesting about the virus.

Yes, I'm sure they did something to the kid. Probably why he was puking. They would drag these poor kids to go chase tornadoes. Incredible.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

I was born before 1950. How come I got H1N1 ?
Just looked at the calender. I was very sick for 1 week & felt lousy for 2 more weeks. 2 days now I've felt like my old self.
We are out here in "Fly Over" land. People dying here to from gunshot & knife wounds.
The violence is every where it seems.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Fortunately, I think the boy was uncomfortable repeating the lies his parents (father?) told him to say.
I heard that the flu of 1918 killed 50 million worldwide. This flu is not that strong.

Quick recovery for wren & Victor.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I saw my son this weekend and retold the green dinosaur story. It does only take seconds for something to happen.
My sister stayed up for the Yankees game but I was asleep 5 minutes after hitting the pillow. Had a great weekend visiting and eating lots of good food.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Sampled some Astoria restaurants, Deb?

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes Victor, we went to the Pizza Palace for lunch, not sure why we stopped there, but we shared about 4 different things fom there. We all like Greek food. Then we were going to go to the Italian place(?) for dinner, but there was over an hour wait so we kept walking. Went to McCanns for drinks, then to 718. That was really good.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Cool. Some of these places are new. Did not know about 718. Pizza Palace opened when I was in grammar school.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I just read that the lawyer for the balloon couple is insisting that they be allowed to turn themselves in and avoid 'a perp walk for media consumption'!! Can you believe this?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

just trying to get more media hype.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, that is too sad about that football player. To escape that life in the streets through football and then get murdered. So awful!

I don't think the family should serve jail time or lose their kids. I really don't think kids should be taken from their parents unless abuse if involved. But I do think they should pay back all the money that was spent on that fiasco or a big, hefty fine, and perhaps probation or something. And some serious counseling should be part of the deal.

Maybe people born before 1950 only have an immunity if they had the virus before, or were carriers or in close contact with people who had it.

CG, what is 'Fly Over' land?

Karen

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

DH gave me a play by play of the snowbowl while I was dividing tubers yesterday. YIPPEE NE!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I would certainly consider what they've done to their kids as abuse. And we don't know if any physical abuse has also been part of it. There was a police call to the house for domestic violence at least once.

Not only all this with the balloon crap, but they dragged the kids with them on storm chases. That is putting them in direct danger. Making them lie in front of all the cameras and bringing them on the interviews. It's exploitation and abuse in my book. In the best interest of the kids to be with these two? I don't think so.

As for jail - you bet. Imagine if one of the rescue choppers crashed. What is a real emergency could not get attention because the rescuers were on this wild goose chase?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Did you see the article??? They have been on the TV show 'Wife Swap' twice.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Fly over land is any thing that isn't New York or Los Angles.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

CG, you mean like a high crime area?

Victor, yeah, the kids are certainly being exploited, not doubt about that. But look at how others are exploiting their kids, too, like the Octomom and the Jon and Kate plus 8 parents, etc. Too much! I guess we better stop, or DG might kick us off.

Karen

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Yeah, that Uconn football player is sad news. He was also an electric punt returner. Always a big smile on his face.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

It's called "Fly Over Land" because nobody wants to stop by here. You know fly to west coast or to New York. What's in between don't count!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh, okay! Now I feel dumb!

Karen

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

Their loss, the middle is just fine.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I'm kind of in nowhere land myself. Very nice here.

Karen

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Bad baseball day. I thought they would pull it out.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too.

Lewisville, MN(Zone 4a)

Is somebody still playing. We switch to football when it gets close to winter.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

At least the Dodgers just went ahead.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

I liked the game!

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

I'm watching field hockey on the BigTen network.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'll be going to the Army's first home game on Saturday. Seats right near the ice.

It was a good game, Deb.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

go halo's

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Ah, Bill. Don't become a bitter old man.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Too late.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Did you see this one? What is it lately with PARENTS??????????
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091019/ap_on_fe_st/us_odd_toddler_survives_fall_2

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Amazing that the boy lived. Every time I hear of a story of a child falling out of a window, I think of Eric Clapton. Didn't he have a kid that died that way?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

not bitter dave - not a fan of pinstripes

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, Harper. He did not have a window guard.

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Yup, no window guard. Looks like the boy fell from the apartment of a friend of his mother's. It was 53 stories high. Here's part of the article:

"Then, on 20 March 1991, Conor, who was four years of age, died when he fell from the 53rd-story window of his mother's friend's New York City apartment, landing on the roof of an adjacent four-story building. Clapton's grief was expressed in the song "Tears in Heaven", which was co-written by Will Jennings."

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

This is one lucky (and quick) dude. This is why you need to stay in shape!

Questa, NM(Zone 5b)

Whoa!!!! I had to watch that one over and over! Yikes!
