Fall 2009 AV&G Round Robin - The Journey Continues!!!
Uhm, Nichole, who is that pretty lady up above there? ^_^
That is one of the babies I grew from leaves of Persian Lace. Sorry the pic isn't better. It's blooming like that at a mini-size, when it's described as a semi-mini. I can't wait to see what it blooms like once it's bigger!
Thank you all you sweethearts for your well wishes , I will be fine and I am looking forward to getting the RR box and adding more to it , I hope I can add some things that the friends it goes to next will enjoy growing and sharing them in the future , I am sorry Sonata wasn't part of it and I hope she is ok . I will let you know when it gets here and when I resend it ( Sat ) the tracking # and what I kept and threw .
Hugs and thank yous :)
Connie
Connie, I hope you feel better real soon... Take care of yourself and get better real soooon...
Hugs,
Susan
I am so sorry for being late with what I kept! My husband had an ultrasound on his leg Wednesday and is having a cat scan Monday. He has a swollen lymph node in his groin which is affecting the lower left leg (it is swollen and red). They ruled out a blood clot. The doctor says there must be something in his abdomen that is causing the lymph node to protrude and cause poor circulation to his lower leg. Please say a prayer for him. I am just frantic about this, and he is so hesitant about having the CT scan done. All I seem to do is switch from being depressed, worried, and angry at him for wanting to put off the CT scan because as he says "we can't afford it." I finally got mad at him Wednesday and told him to do it for the kids!
So, here is my list!

Eileen
Sandra,
I've got you and your family in my prayers. I sure hope they pinpoint the problem quickly.
I love your list of what you got - can't wait to look them all up.
Sharon
Julie I hope it all turns out to be something unimportant and that is no big deal. I hope you find a place of peace and calm too as it's so easy to become overwhelmed by it all. Maybe the plants will help give you a place of quiet and easiness when you are working with them.
My prayers are with you and your family Julie. All the best.....
Hugs,
Shanika
Sandra,

Connie
maybe we can do a swap sometime connie,I have more watermelon wine, its awesome,
JIM
Hi ,
Jim I am always up for a swap you know that LOL your leaves do well for me , almost all the leaves you first sent me have big babies now so need to be separated , I really don't get why when I grow from a leaf I seem to have no trouble getting the babies big but when I buy plants I lose so many , now I have started taking a leaf from any plant I but so if I lose the plant I still have the babies from the leaf , I love the fantasies but when I bought them they arrived as tiny guys so over time they just gave up and died so I am back to square one so maybe in the Spring I will start over trying to get them again , I have many seed babies to try and raise over the winter and all the babies from the leaves you and Gail have sent me .
I was wondering about the leaves I am trying to save from the RR box , some of them are really yellow , is that from being in the box so long or is it just from the different growing conditions where they started from , does anyone know or am I whistling in the wind :) I hope I can get them to root but was just wondering why they are so pale :) thank you for your offer Jim and thank you all for any thoughts you might have about the color :)
Hugs,
Connie
well if its strep leaves ,they could be older,i would try them,Some just start turning yellow, should still make babies if its not bright yellow,
as far as getting in plants, verses leaves, plants that were raised in one enviriment and are now being grown in a differnt do always do well
thats why i like to grow from leaves,as some plants, with some give me a plant and i can make it do anything
sounds to me like you should start leaves and grow the plants in your condions, youll be successfull that way
but dont give up,Im sure youll find a way to get plants in and get them growin,
JIM
Imadigger.
Be happy to trade.
Everyone.... ******* I see the devil's backbone cutting got thrown out.
Does anybody after me want devlil's backbone plants.?????
I rooted a bunch and was going to sell them but was too lazy, LOL!
Pat
I would like to get the green one if anyone has it
Hi ,
Thank you Jim for the comments , i will see if the strep leaves will be happy being pale and making babies :)
The RR box is on it's way to Annacanna , the tracking # is ........0309 1140 0002 1856 9087....I hope you get it by Monday , i retaped the heatpack to the bottom of the box as it had come loose and I didn't want it to squash the leaves and plants so I hope it will still be at the bottom of the box :) Have fun anna , I hope I put some things you and the coming up people will like along with the other goodies :)
Hugs,
Connie
You are so nice - as is everyone here. It would be wonderful if it got here on Monday. I'm here and waiting.
I think I asked this before but can't remember the answer. When I get it should I try to rehydrate things and wait until the next day to send it or should I try to send it on the same day if possible? The post office by me is open until 7 PM so if I get home by 2 PM or so I should be able to send it on that day if that's best.
depends, if most of the box is dryed out,id wait till the next day but if everything looks good, send it out right away
JIM
Anna ,
I wrap the ends of the leaves with damp paper toweling but if things look limp even a short soak in water helps things to perk up , I think you will know what needs to be tended to and what is fit to just pass on as is and the sooner you can get it in the mail the better , I couldn't do a lot of work on them cause I got them Friday and had to get them back in the mail Sat and my post office is only open till 11 am Sat so I had to take care of what I could and add my stuff as well , I don't cut leaves till right before I ship so kind of hard to do so many things at once but if as you say you have more time then at least recut and soak whatever you think needs it but don't get all stressed out trying to pack fast and end up not enjoying the fun , I do hope you enjoy the treasure hunt :)
Hugs , Connie
Good morning everyone. I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep because I usually get up around now during the work week so I am enjoying the quiet and checking my mail and getting excited about my new friends on their way to live with me.
I am not at all stressed really just wanting to do it well for everyone else. I am sure it will be fine and I'll enjoy it tremendously. I'll soak and recut what looks like it needs some water and then get it out. After taking my goodies and putting in some goodies, that is.
I would love to try a gessie other than an AV but need one that is on the small side. I adore the beautiful pictures ya'll post of the streps particularly. I just keep thinking these are all large. Are they any that tend to be a bit smaller that I should keep my eye open for? Maybe I'll just take the plunge and take one.
Oh heavens - there aren't descriptions in there with the little plants and leaves are there? I just realized that I probably won't know many of the things so I'll need to look them up! Well I guess that is what the internet is for isn't it?
Hope everyone has a lovely day. I think I will go work on my wish list for awhile before hubby smells the coffee and gets up and my quiet time will be all gone.
Hi Anna;
There are some small streps you might like to try, like fernwoods silouette or fernwoods minuite. they are small & real cute. aslo there are mini & micro mini sinningia's, most of them are small, especially the micro's.I wish it were earlier in the year, i could have sent you some to try, but i am out of heat pac's. But you can be on the look out for any of those.
mrsbonnie
Good Morning Bonnie!
Where can I buy heat packs for shipping? I sold some Philodendrons on eBay and think I may need to use one to ship. My buyer lives in the Rocky Mountains.
Thanks,
Shanika
Sending you a dmail, Shanika . . .
if its just streps.they can take it pretty cold for shipping if you use an insulated box,ive gotten streps when it was 0 out and they were fine
just put the baggie in a styrofoam cup and put insulation and some shreaded paper, they will be fine
i have no worries about streps this time of year
JIM
JIM,
Did you want the green devil's backbone or are you referring to an
AV?
Pat
The green devils backbone,I can send you cuttings of the varigated one,how are you with streps?
JIM,
I think I have a green one and I have tons of the variegated. I can't check because I am out town until tomorrow. I am pretty sure I have it though.
I love streps and they seem to do well for me.
Pat
Thank you Bonnie for the information. I'll look for those.
I am not in this RR,but I have a question. What is the best way to pack Episcia stolons this time of year for only a 2 day trip? The baby plants I can figure out,but I don't know whether to just put the stolons in a Zip Lock or wrap something damp around the stems first. Also, cuttings from Kohleria.
Thanks,Lynn
Help! Some of the Steps have some brown on them that is getting mushy. Should I just cut if off with a sterilized knife?
OK - I've been through the whole box to assess the plants. Most look very good.
AVs that are mushy are:
some Fairy Fountains
All Fairy King
Some Sheer Romance
Now, as I said above, several Streps have brown. Some it's just brown but on some part of the leaf is mushy. I don't know a thing about them so need instructions.
In terms of other plants:
The alsobia chiapas as two or three leaves that look bad to me, but I don't know this species. They are translucent and damp. Should I discard them?
Dragonwing Begonia has part of it damp and translucent. Let me know what to do with it.
Chirita Tamiana all leaves are damp and translucent. For all I know they will still be OK like this. An AV leaf wouldn't.
I've seen several things I will love to have so am off to start harvesting any leaves I can and to wrap some young plants. They all have at least 6 leaves so I think they should be OK.
As far as the alsobia and chirita leaves, I'd say if they're translucent, then it is probably better to toss them.
I don't know much about begonias, so can't help there.,
