Yes, I am finished with outside, except for mowing and blowing leaves, Now, I'm just potting up cuttings slowly, but surely. I ran out of perlite this evening ,so, I have to stop til I get some more. I could just kick myself for forgetting to pick some up today, when I was in town.
Your basement is gonna smell wonderful! Can't wait to see your pick of Summer Kisses..
Elizabeth, do you have Doosie? I think it is soooo pretty.
Dee
Blooming Brug
Is there a special way to plant Brug seeds? I may be getting some , I can hardly wait.
Those donkeys got out through an opening in the fence. I was so glad they came up to the house instead of running down the hill, which they have done before.
I heard Charley going on and I turned around to see what he was looking at and there were "the girls" I was so glad he and the little jack didn't get out. Iwould had to call in help.
But I finally got "the girls" in after much Bribery and singing and talking for a couple of hours. But I finally got them in.
I bet it looks like a jungle, Please do take pictures, we would all love them.
Charleen
but, not as pretty as the one you told us to look up..what was it, Fandango? I think that is the prettiest flower that I have ever seen..
Dee
Dee
I don't have Doosie, it is pretty, but I have to limit myself now,I do have Langebushers Garten, it's a double sometimes triple yellow. I hope I spelled it right, it seems to be a fast grower, it's about 2 ft tall, that's one I will try to keep growing
under lights
Elizabeth
Charleen
I can just see it, you talking & singing to the girls to get them to come back, I am glad you got them in, it does worry us about our animals, they're like kids
Elizabeth
Dee
Fandango, was on ebay this summer, it went really high, that's one of monica's from Germany, it is a Georgeous Bloom
imagine what Miss B haven crosses with New orleans Lady would look like, esp. if it threw triples all the time
Elizabeth
I'll have to look that one up.I know what ya mean about limiting yourself, but since I'm just starting, I'm not there yet..lol
Whoever painted those donkey's in that pic, did a great job, didn't they? They do look like Zebras..poor things..
Did you see that Charleen has earned a new title?...Dances with Mules..Is that cute or what? Charleen, those girls are having fun aren't they...that is one cute thread.
Dee
Does 3 skirts hang down or do they unfurl, one at a time?
Just sounds beautiful, doesn't it?
Dee
I love it. They really enjoy their Friday night get
together and I am so lucky they let me join in.
Like I am lucky to be here.
Hey, wonder if anyone has done a slow motion camera of them opening?
Wouldn't that be great? I would love to dee a triple or a double or , heck
even a single.
I think we are all three lucky to have run into each other. we just clicked, didn't we We have a lot of fun too.
Dee
Charleen
the skirts drop one at a time, if the bloom is acting right, I am glad to have the two of you to talk to, I have to bribe my DD to get her to help with the houseplants, they have to be in saturday as well, last year I left my strawberry jars out
they died, so they have to come in too, it should only take me till sunday to have the basement ready for Pic's
the hard part is going to be NN & Nol also Velvet rose has to be dug up & that Huge Peaches & Creme, the blooms aren't as big as they were when it was warmer
Elizabeth
Yeah, it would be nice to see a brug bloom opening on film. I bet someone has done it.
Wonder if any of us will get boxes tomorrow...Don't ya just love getting boxes of plants in the mail..I know I do!
Dee
Charlene
my camera, takes a 2 minute movie, my DD does that with it, she was having too much fun, playing it in slow motion
when I can get her to take a minute to show me how she does that, you would have to stay up all night to see it that way or have webcam
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, you have a lot of Houseplants, to carry in. I bet you are ready for a break! Wil they be spread throughout the house or will most of them go to the basement?
Dee
I know someone out there has done it. We will have to ask Gordon,
I bet he knows. Yes. boxes should start arriving. I wish I could see
your faces. Need a camera then too. Can't wait.
Charleen
Dee
I just sent one to california, it should be there friday or saturday, it was too my Brug partner, if I had met you sooner I could have told you about that, people from different climates, exchanged Brugs, also to have a back up Brug & too see how they grew in different climates
Elizabeth
That would be neat. I saw that somewhere else too.
Can't remember where.
Charleen
Dee
they go to the attic & the basement, that huge agave & a catcus are allready in the attic, I am still trying to dig those little like splinters out of my fingers from the catcus, as long as it doesn't get below 45 degrees, they're happy
my windows aren't very good for plants, so I only have a couple low light vines in the house
Elizabeth
Charlene
it's really neat, what you have to do is keep records of how it does, like the ones, she sent me are happy in the greenhouse, they should do well there if we don't have a hard freeze, the GH is good untill we get bad weather then
those have to come in also
Elizabeth
What time-line is that, a couple of weeks
or a month?
Charleen
That's a great idea. It would be neat to know how they grow and bloom differently in different climates, plus you would have a back-up if you lost yours..
Dee
Well, I'm off til tomarrow.
Goodnight to all.
Hope you get your pkgs.
Charleen
Night, Charleen
Dee
Goodnight Charlene
as soon as a box comes my way, I'll let you know it arrived, I am getting you one out monday, I have 4 going out
I have to clip label & get them ready, that will be Saturday night, I'll be all cozy in the basement doing that
see ya tommorrow
Elizabeth
Elizabeth, I bet you will be so glad to be working inside. I had a lot of shrubs and plants that I got on clearance this fall. I thought I would never get done diggin holes..lol. I am ready for a break from the yard
Dee
Dee
are you going to be up a little while yet, I'll be turning in, in about 1/2 hour, when all the houseplants are arranged, I'll show you which ones I have, have you ever seen a succulent geranium, it's neat, it's not scented but it's sharp
also the night blooming cerus, it's huge, I did sell some of the houseplants this summer, I had a jade that was 4 inches in diameter, I just didn't want to bring it in, so I sold it
Elizabeth
Yep, I'll be up. No, I have never even heard of a succulent geranium. I'd love to see a pic of it
Dee
Dee
I am glad in a way, but I will miss it, I am an outside person, although when it's cold out I hibernate, I still shovel snow
it's funny the next door neighbor has this beautiful red maple, but for some reason, they have the tree & all the leaves want to come over here
Elizabeth
Dee
you'll get too see that Pic, sunday night, the basement rooms look like a GH, my GK"s love it when it's all set up
it has a clean smell, all the plants in there, I have all my lights on, I thought I wouldn't have to do that till halloween
I hope this means an early spring
Elizabeth
I am an outside person, too. My Dh said today , that if it stays as gray and dreary as it was today, all winter that I will go stir quick, and he's right after about a month of cold, I have to grow somthing...but I am sure enjoting watching the cuttings get their leaves
We have a huge old silver maple out back, and it makes a messi n the yard, spring, summer and fall. It's not even a pretty tree, but it's good shade.
Dee
I know I will love your basement greenhouse! Sounds like heaven to me. Listening to you talk about it has convinced me that I need to turn one of the spare bedrooms into a greenhouse room. I am trying to convince my dh.I told him, that we could rip out the carpetand put in tile or laminate flooring and put in some tables and hang lots of florescents...wouldn't take much really.I do miss my greenhouse, but I didn't heat it in the winter...did like you do,,,,just to extend the season.
Dee
Dee
I planted a thornless locust, it's kind of contorted, anyway, it is 3yrs old, those little leaves make a mess this time of year
it bloomed this year for the first time, this spring I planted a contorted filbert, I love different looking things, if you have a place to have some grow lights, it amazed me how well they do, the Brugs seeds have to be soaked, then you have to peel the cork off of them, before you plant them, I didn't know if you had any yet, but they work real well in those mini
greenhouses if they have light
Elizabeth
are you going to be groing any cuttings this winter?
I bought the seeds that I have from Gordo on e-bay..She said that the cork was already removed, or that they didn't have cork or something, can't remember right now,
why do you wait until Feb to strt them?
Dee
you can get that 6 mil plastic & put on the floor, to protect your carpet, that's what I put in the attic, then I use 2 childs swimming pools, so the water doesn't come in the house, it works the plants get to be watered & it doesn't damage the wood, where the a will there's a way, it only took 25 yrs, to get DH to like plants
Elizabeth
do you just press your seeds to make contact with the soil, or do you cover them slightly?
Dee
Dee
yes I grow clippings in winter, I like to start my seeds in Feb. because of not enough light, I like to put them in front of a window, besides, I don't want them to get to leggy, before I can put them outside, also if you have a heatmat they do better, that's one thing I have to get
Elizabeth
Dee
I just press them down, in the peat pots, that comes with the mini GH, another thing I was told is if you use soil, use the seed starter soil, it's better for the young seedlings instead of MG, so I will be getting some of that too
Elizabeth
