DAILY PICS Vol 250

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

This European Starling sure looked bright in the early sun.

Nice shots, especially the Eagles. The number of birds here is underwhelming....of course, it was another 90 degree day. We finally have another cool front heading our way Thursday night, maybe it will bring some birds with it. I did see this Osprey soaring with Black Vultures while I was outside briefly this morning.

Great pics duc!

Hope you get your cool weather GP! We are expecting 2 Nor'easters starting today.

PERTH, Australia

This is a Buff-banded Rail at the local swamp this afternoon. They are such shy birds and I consider myself lucky to have been able to get a few halfway decent shots.

It was ducking in and out of shadows and gazing at me with great suspicion from behind the reeds.

I've got a couple more of it that I'll post on Hel's Aussie birds thread.

Also note they have broken their Bald Eagle record for migrating eagles.

Check out the mass emerging of Tree Swallows heading south,up to 6,000 at a time!

PERTH, Australia

I've posted another couple of similar shots on the Australian birds thread. Eurasian Coots mating.

Pink-eared Duck at the swamp this afternoon. Their bills are really unusual. Hopefully you'll be able to see the filaments along the side which assist in filtering food.

Black-winged Stilt

The ubiquitous and much loved Willie Wagtail, although I guess they're not too well loved by the Ospreys and numerous other birds. There was a pair at the swamp and they must have had a nest close by as they were chasing every other poor bird that wandered into their territory.

Beautiful photos Margaret. I especially liked the Pink-eared Duck-such unusual coloring.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Nice ones everybody!! I haven't seen a Browm Creeper yet...but I did se my first Dark-eyed Junco today......and lots of White-throated Sparrows yesterday in the brush along the road. Guess summer really is gone.

Caught a male Cardinal eating some berries....

Was watching from the front porch as this Northern Flicker checked out the squirrels nest across the road.

Fantastic thread everyone...so many great looking birds from all over!! It is very interesting to see all the fall arrivals (in the states) and also to see Margarets beautiful shots from Australia.

Our weather continues to depress and obsess but I am still watching for the fall arrivals. Yesterday I sat in a marshy area on the farm and spotted this cute little Marsh Wren. It was a very nice surprise on a very overcast and wet day!

This little Carolina Wren was all over a former burn pile.

This is a really bad through the window and screen shot but I couldn't believe I saw an Indigo Bunting this late in the year!! Bet it was cold!!

Great shots Margaret,nanny and Rose!

Pouring rain here now and for the next 3 days. :-(

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

That's a beautiful Cardinal Nanny!
Rose, love that Bunting!! I bet they're prettier in person too! Cute Wrens too!!

The Cedar Waxwings started arriving yesterday. Not very good photos because of the rain, but they're sure pretty.

This Anna's Hummingbird didn't enjoy sharing the branches with a Goldfinch.

I caught this young Red-winged Blackbird as it was moving to another branch.

The Golden-crowned Sparrows just arrived this week.

Nice ones duc! Love the catch on the Blackbird and the Golden-crowned Sparrow!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Nice shots Duc...they are beauties and I love those last two also. We need to start a Halloween thread and your Blackbird would be perfect with those colors.

Pelle...we have had lots of rain too and I will go mad if the sun doesn't shine soon!! (no kidding)! As I was sitting on my bucket yesterday in the marsh area I noticed the Song Sparrows had returned. Here is a birds eye view of one on the distant grasses.

Another dark cold rainy day here too....nice Golden-crown Sparrow duc. Another one I would love to see! Off to get my seasonal flu shot...Yipppeeeee!

My brother saw two female Painted Buntings at the feeders yesterday while I was at work. I did see one this morning, but no chance for a picture. At least a few are back. Other than that, just the normal birds we always have around. I'm sure I have been hearing an Oriole, but have not spotted it yet. Birding season is just starting here, though.

Port Elizabeth, South Africa(Zone 10a)

Great shots, I must say that Flicker is an beauti.

Great pics of the bee-eaters Margaret, I hear them going over the house at the afternoon, but they never come for a visit.

Melbourne, FL

I just glanced out into the backyard (I have been doing this for two weeks, expecting to see the Buntings), and there was a male Painted Bunting in the feeder! We have at least two females and a male so far. Happy dance!!!!

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

We've finally had some rain, and my little creek is flowing again after 79 days dry. Yesterday there were many, many Yellow-rumped Warblers working the thickets, feasting on termites. Too bad it was overcast, but I'm so grateful the rain came.

Yeah, get those termites!

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

I think it's a real challenge to photograph birds, and many of the little bug eaters almost never sit still. Getting one in the open often takes much time and patience. Better light to show colors would have been nice, but we take what we can get.

First DARK-EYED JUNCO seen here this Fall!!! It's a wind chill of 38 degrees here today so I guess I shouldn't be surprised. All the rain makes it feel even colder though!

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Congrats??
LOL. They're cute though.

Marlton, NJ

LOL, I know. :-)

Here is a terrible photo of her. I saw 2 of them along with a Yellow-rumped Warbler and a Song Sparrow I believe.

Woohoo, new bird!! Purple Finch! Female in the yard at the feeder with the other 2 types of finch. Lots of chowing down going on in this raw weather. :-)

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Quoting:
Also note they have broken their Bald Eagle record

Have they managed to repair it yet?
