I have to go to town and will be gone all day, so I will start this new thread early.
I decided to feature the piglets ( Goldfinch ) since they are strating to show up in numbers again.
DAILY PICS Vol 250
Nice pics adel! Thanks for starting the new thread!
Duc, Wonderful shots in the last thread! Aren't both the raptors Red-tailed Hawks?
Mrs Ed, Love the Phoebe!
I'm afraid this is the only pic I got from Cape May today. This was right when I arrived at the Cape May Migratory Bird Refuge for a scheduled walk with Pete Dunne and other CMBO associates.. As you can tell I was much too early. Anyway it was a great walk with lots of people and I got some new birds but it was freezing cold out with strong winds! After the walk I sat in my car for a while with the heat blasting then went down to the Hawk Watch Platform for about 40 minutes but really could not handle the cold winds so after having an early lunch I headed home.
I'll put a link to what we saw later when it's posted.
Adel, your little piglets are just adorable! Looks like they've taken over your yard!
You may be right Pelle. Thanks for the correction. What a beautiful sunrise photo! Sorry about the lack of birds.
Sorry duc, I'll clarify. There were tons of birds! I did not take the camera on the walk because it was so damp, windy, cold and overcast. I did not have gloves with me so there was no way I was taking the camera, It was enough just removing my hands from my pockets to raise the binoculars so I could see all the birds.
The new birds I saw that I remember are Wilson's Snipe and Northern Shoveler.
Glad you were able to see them anyway!! I saw my first Kites over the weekend. I've never seen one before. Too bad they were too far away for photos!
Congratulations duc! They are such cool birds!
My first Swallow-tailed Kites were too far for a photo too but I got a great long look at them through some wonderful Leica bino's.
Thanks for the new thread Adel...glad your piggies are back!!
The last thread had some great birds on it...Duc and Mrs Ed, those last shots that were posted were great!
Hack...nice shots of the bridge and trees...nice to see you back all safe and sound!!
Pelle...that is an awesome shot!!
Adel, thanks for taking the time to start this new thread. That pic with Frank the frog is waiting for a caption.
The sunrise is really nice Pelle. " Guess the early bird gets the worm." ;)
Tiger those are nice shots of the Flicker. He 's a real poser in the last pic.
My neighbor cut down his beautiful Mountain Ash, this morning. I was so sad to see it go. The Robins and Starlings, were having a grand ole time feasting on it, the last few days.
Got this shot of the American Kestrel, yesterday.
Great shots everyone!
Tiger, I love the shot of the Flicker! They are always one of my favorites.
Burn, Good one of the Kestrel!
LOL adel!
Marie, Love the shot of the Great Blue Heron!
Wonderful shots Margaret!
They are such a gorgeous bird!
Thanks, Pelle. It would be a dream to be able to get some inflight shots, but the chances of that are very slim. They have the most beautiful coral colouring under their wings.
Love that Flicker Tiger...it looks like the markings were painted on the bird!
Burn...I am amazed that we are both seeing the same birds...love the Kestrel, such a difficult bird to get a shot of. I am anxiously awaiting the return of your Redpolls although I know you are not looking forward to the weather that will accompany them.
Adel...such a great caption!
Marie...I love the pose of that Heron!
Margaret...Good grief those Honeyeaters are gorgeous beyond words!
Weather here is cold and gloomy and not a good time to photograph but I did anyway!! More of our winter residents are arriving at the brush piles and I am loving every minute of it.
The White-crowned Sparrows are here in numbers now and seem to be in charge wherever they are!
The Lincolns Sparrow does have great markings! Wonderful pics Rose!
Yellow-rumped Warblers were all over the place yesterday in Cape May. I'm sure we saw at least 1000 of them.
Always love seeing your pics Rose!
Thanks Pelle...yes the little Yellow-rumps were all over yesterday! I also stood in the shadows yesterday by the entrance to the secret stream and was able to watch so many birds come and go after drinking or bathing! The little stream is surrounded by trees and brush and there is a section that is solid flat rock...which is where the birds love to drink. It seems to have water most of the time and yesterday a Ruby-crowned Kinglet flitted about a foot from my face. I am old and not easily excited but that was really awesome. Today is dark and overcast again but I will return to see what I can see...it's like going to Disneyland only better!
ha. Disneyland.
Forgot to say how awesome the colors on the bee eaters are.
