Wow Betty, sounds like that was quite the trip!!! I'm glad you had fun and yes, it's amazing how small the world has become. Imagine bumping into hometown folks so far from home...
The weather here today is much better than yesterday. We had snow which didn't stay but was nasty anyway. It was cold and raw and a day to make soup..
My Sean had a late start day at school today so he came to Grammy's at 8 am. I had to take him to school at 10am so we had a couple of hours together. He is such a sweetheart. He just finished his soccer season and talked about it for the whole two hours!!! Grammies need to have good listening abilities sometimes....
LK, Tubby, Mary, Trish and all I'm waving a hello.....
Off to get some housework done. Have a wonderful day everyone.
Best/Worse/What did I learn today...visit with friends #123
LOL don't we though Barb...mine are all gabbers as well...is nice you get to spend some time with him...
Checked the weather for the week, rain for 7 days straight starting tomorrow..I've lots to do inside so won't matter to me...lol
In my travels I hit about 6 big chain stores for halloween costumes thinking maybe I could buy a chicken..nope..they did have 1 - adult size but was yellow and $99.99...it wasn't the price it was the color..not sure I know of yellow chickens so if I can gain some energy late this aft. I'll drive to Midland and go to Fabricland so I can at least purchase what I need...
Did have some not so good news this a.m. - SIL Linda works for Barrie courts, while we were away I asked if she could check on dates for the court for Bernie to have his day re insurance company on non payment of $$$ for the fire..she said that court hearing would be late Dec./Jan. they'd pick jury and it might not get heard until late next year...so disappointing...
Yes Betty, that is the craft show....another one, smaller...in December.
So sorry to hear they are stalling with Bernie. That is so aggravating. Courts here seem to take forever too... I sometimes wonder if the ins companies are paying the courts to drag things out. Probably not but it sure seems that way at times.
Ohhh looking forward to it Debbie...now how are you doing sweetie, things calming down for you?
Barb, doubt it's the courts (better say that because SIL Linda I was away with this past weekend is a big wig, am sure if there had been a way, he'd be done by now..nope, think the insurance company tries to prolong/prolong till the poor individual has no $$$ left to fight with and he goes away quietly...
Waiving hello!
Wow, what spectaclar day, 60 slightly breezy and sunny warm!!
Aww Barb, TY, well I hope your weather gets warm again. OMG, please show you Teddy Bear!!
LOL, got to giggle at your craft room cleaning...mine always seems to get nice neat piles of different crafts, oh I just love the mess sometimes, too neat and i can't think> hahaha.
MY gosh Betty! i dropped from all your shopping, roflol. Sounds like quite the excursion, oh and how fun to have run into a friend like that.
Well i hope you find that chicken material, what are you thinking on it? All I can think is lots and lots of feathers, yikes what a chore, you brave women!
Mary...Wow, you are busy How fun, Hope you will be able to post pics.
Speaking of Busy, How the heck is Crissy? Hope everything is going well.
Jumping up and down, So good to see you Dawn!! A big bummer about the job tho.
Did lots of driving today, lol back and forth and here and there...But the best thing is
I checked out how to make fry bread on line...I am so excited tomorrow will brave it up and try it.
LOL, I have made this maybe twice, been a very long time...LOL, also watched my sister Honee make it and
the problem is she never uses utensils so i didn't know how much, unless she sends her hand, i was kind of stuck...
LOL, thats my excuse and I am stickin with it.
So i sure hope you all had a fun day too.
LOL Betty, going to have to wait on ornement, but its been lots of fun.
see you in a bit.
Hello All;
I'm so glad to see my name....I was missed! ((((HUGS))))
Judy - no more pics for me....my computer is completely FULL....it wouldn't even let me print earlier today...I had to do some 'adjusting' to print the kids "weekly chore list"...boy that would have been bad if I couldn't print that! LOL
We found out about the new windows 7 thing...so we're waiting to buy ....they can't sell those computers till Thursday....we're too busy to buy till the weekend....so 'cross your fingers' that I can get a new computer this weekend! Plus I'll take any advice folks want to give me...since I feel completely computer illiterate....
Christmas and Halloween craft season! How fun. Wish I could join in.
DH sent me flowers today. I told my co-workers it was the "Guilt Arrangement". LOL
3 teens....each with their own DRAMA......Homecoming week....feeding the band....still navigating new job......and DH is basically AWOL....out of town working practically ALL WEEK.......
Hugs to all....I'll check back in a bit....
Mary
I'm here! I'm here!
Betty sounds like you had a great time, and seeing people is always so neat!
I haven't caught up yet, I need to start working here and catch up with my doings, so I'll be back later.
Hi Everyone!!
Morning...perfect fall day, downfall is I'm inside...
Didn't get to bed at 6:30 last night, had company so it was 8:30 before I snuggled in..still tired, they say you can never catch up on lost sleep..guess they are right...
Barb, June was the friend that dropped in last night..asked me if I wanted fur (mink) to make a few teddies...we made some when my boys were younger, embroidered their names and it was a keepsake for them..I've no one else to make teddies for..perhaps I could get the fur and send to you??? same process just you have to cutbetween fur and liner to minimize the floating fur..let me know ...
Mary, now why can't you join us in our Christmas Craft workshop??? it's sure to be fun..it's nice to get flowers regardless the reason..guilt or not..am sure it's just because he loves you...as for being the 'newby' at work I'm sure you feel that way but am sure they think you are doing a marvellous job..having teens sure does keep you busy Mary...not sure we have homecoming? what is it's purpose???? a welcoming to everyone to the school year?
Judy, guess you are deep into making bread today..I'm smilling, a few years ago when I was visiting Steve did all the cooking, you've become so domesticated these days..does good for you to be home..I can picture you in your craft area working so hard to make a Christmas ornament for your swap bud...am sure it will be appreciated...
Crissy, sure wish I was in Memphis and outlet store I took you to..imagine it's all decorated for Christmas..why don't you get a few girls and make the trip? Christmas is coming..nice place to shop for gifts or is it, everything you picked up for someone you wanted to keep..lol
Tubby/Shirley, know you both are in my thoughts..
Prayers going out to all in need of them...
I'm here too..... off & on lol
busy day today, but not Quite as busy as yesterday lol
~Susan~
Being given additional duties fills your day in doesn't it Susan...looking forward to getting the plant..hope I don't kill it as quickly as I do most houseplants..lol...
Wish I was busy, or am I, knitting cuff's and sweater band for costumes...shortly it's lunch, dropping into Michael's to see what's new...just what I need to do right?
Betty, I thank you for the offer of the "mink". The bears I'm making are cloth ones meant to be dragged around and drooled on!!!! I do so appreciate that you thought of me.
Your check is ready and Norm's taking it to the PO for me. You should have it soon.
thank you, Betty - you're a true jewel. Some people would be ticked at me about now. I have some very good packaging, and I'm sure the plant will be just fine.
I'll be sending it on Friday (payday lol). The roots are juuuuuust fine, and (my rotting the first cutting notwithstanding) it's quite a hardy plant. If not watered much, it will get leggy instead of having bushes and bunches of leaves. Depending upon your watering and light, once it's about 3 ft or so, and/or about 2 years old, it should bloom profusely. ^_^
~Susan~
Hello to All;
Hey Betty!!!! - My "Take" on the Southern U.S. tradition of "Homecoming"....it's when your High School Football team schedules to play another team that they will surely beat. Many Alumnus plan to attend the game. A "Homecoming Court" is voted on (Queen, Junior Queen, Sophomore, Freshman, etc). The Homecoming Court is presented at Half Time during the Football Game. A Dance is planned....and High School Dates attend. (Not as formal as PROM).
I am feeding the Band Steak and Chicken Fajitas before the game (a special meal since it is Homecoming). We have about 8 Band Alumni planning to come and play with the students...parents who played in Band are invited to play with the students as well. This is for Thursday night.
Friday night is the Dance. Teens are dropping by for Pictures in the Back yard. DS has a date and group of about 8 teens going out for Sushi then the Dance.
Anyone else has anything to add.....OR a different tradition in Your Region?
I'm sure wikipedia has some history behind the tradition...I may just go online there and see... :) Having the exchange student last year really opened my eyes to the differences in our cultures.... I didn't realize that Europeans don't really do "PROM" like we do ...until last year... :)
(((HUGS)))
Mary
Morning, thanks Mary...not what I would have guessed you are celebrating..don't think we're as enthused as you all re college/university sports....wow, quite an event...enjoy!!! (hope you win after this..lol)
Good Morning!
Wow Mary, what a cool thing todo, oh my gosh, are you taking a day off to cook all that food?
holy smackers, you are one brave person. Sounds like a lot of fun too.
hehehe, Betty...I am finding I like to cook some, and now I put my self into Liz mode and clean up as i go!
makes things much easier...So I didn't do the fry bread, maybe today.
Well, I have been working in the yard! It's been too nice to sit inside.
But just about all the beds are cleaned out and tools are alll gathered in one place.
Decided it was time too prune back all the bushes in the back...Took me a long time because i do each branch at a time.
Today, I am going to tranfer some of the ornamental grass to in between each bush, woohoo going to use some more of my compost!
A really big plus, Breenie decided she needed money, so Steve told her to wash the kitchen floor, lol.
I was planning to do this today, she said no I am going to do it...and guess what, she did, got down on hands and knees and
scrubed every inch!! ohwah.
Today is Alissa's birthday. She just got home from work so I am going to make her a ham and cheese omlette for birthday breakfast.
LOL, just turned 22 and feels old, hahaha.
On a little bit of a sad note, Skittles flew into the fan last night. Poor little baby, got the wind and knocked out and scared crap out of her.
I snuggle her close for quite some time before putting her to bed. She didn't dare go far from me. She seems to be ok, this morning, I will see when i let her loose in a few minutes...
So what's everyone up to today?
Morning everyone!
Wow Judy, you got your floors cleaned for you, and you made a Birthday omelet. Happy Birthday to Alissa's!
Hope that skittle is OK? Poor thing.
Mary, don't work too hard cooking all that food! That is a lot of work for all those kids! Sounds like funt hough, and I hope they win the game too!
I am working on mytote bag, and my machine is giving me fits, just a cheap one from walmart, so I will be looking for a new one today, or tomorrow. I am so enjoying this cooler weather we have. It is 69 right now, and it feels sooo good.
Hi Everyone!!
Betty I wish you were in Memphis too, I'd love to be with you! I said on another post somewhere there needs to be a nice house development called, "The Dave's Garden Estates" and we all live there!
I went to Old Time Pottery when I had my Hot Check Conference Oct 1st and 2nd. They had some really neat stuff but it's not decorated like I thought it would be. Maybe after Thanksgiving it will be more-so.
I'll tell ya about my take that I've seen about homecoming and the difference between the states. In CA they have it, and it's a big deal as long as your in high school or an immediate member of the family is in high school, it doesn't really continue after that. If you're 60 years old and say, "I was Homecoming Queen when I was in high school!" no one cares. College sports is not popular either.
Here in AR when someone is Homecoming Queen it's carried with parties and what-not for the rest of their lives. If you're 60 and you say, "I was Homecoming Queen in high school" people will congratulate you and acknowledge the fact. People not only are serious about college sports here in the South, but high school sports is a big deal too.
I just learned that one of my co-workers had a dream about me, we were going somewhere and she had a bad accident and I was thrown through the windshield and killed. Thanks, that's a great way to start my day! What a nice thing to tell someone. Good thing I always wear my seat belt huh.
Well folks, my hot check girl should be here any minute so I'm going to get off of this for now.
Love Ya'll!
Poor Skittles!! Let us know if she's alright...
awwwwww Skittles! No more going in the fan for her, eh? Glad to hear she's doing alright.
I wonder what the weather's like in Memphis....... ^-^ Last time I was there was in my teens lol
Best - my boss is supporting me in getting help with the teleconferences
Worst - I can't let him go to my manager on this because it would be futile
What I learned - I can do more, better, than I thought - "perfection is the enemy of good"
~Susan~
Weather in Memphis is highs into mid to upper 60's and getting overcast. They say it's going to storm here maybe early Thursday morning, but definitely Thursday afternoon, which means Memphis will get it later Thursday afternoon, Thursday night, maybe into early early Friday morning, depending upon how spread out the storm it, if it squalls, and how fast it's moving.
So one of my co-workers dreamed last night that there were a group of us in her car and she was driving, we got into a bad accident and I was thrown out of the windshield and killed. That's just the most wonderful thing to hear when you first walk into work. Good thing I always wear my seat belt, I actually told her that and no one said anything. NICE!!
Thank You from Alissa, Linda Kay.
LOL, I served it with a candle and sang HB, she enjoyed it.
Thank you all about Skittles. Let her loose and she did her routine "I'm Free" flight through the house.
But she is quiet and moving in slow motion, and she is not hopping to finger but stepping.
She is eating fine so I think probably a little sore. I did not see it happen so i am not sure where she hit.
Waiving Hiya Crissy, good to see you back.
Well, i've got to go haul wood. We are getting ready to split the rest of the old stuff, yay finally it will be gone!
Yippee, sun is finally out!
Off to the yard, see you in a bit.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ALISSA!!!!!
I wouldn't have told me about it, like, "Hey! Let's tell her, that ought to make her feel real good!" I just announced that I never go anywhere without a seat belt on since it's the law anyway so that happening is almost impossible. No one responded except for Ms. Cheerful who said "that's not very nice to tell her."
Crissy, it wouldn't have been while you were doing laps on the racetrack by any chance, or the Memphis Highways...joking around..for all who haven't driven with our Miss Crissy, well, let's just say it's the INDY 500 (? is that what it's called, you can see how much I know about racing!) although, I did attend many years ago a race in Daytona Florida..
As for Ole Time Pottery, bet you are right..it's like many of the stores here in town, won't get into setting up Christmas until Halloween is done..
Going to work with friends one Saturday and do Christmas arrangements...after almost freezing last year, shoulder deep in snow and water, Suzanne and Rita both said they'd come with me to make sure nothing happens...
Keep looking at my calendar and OMG, I won't get into mischief for sure..not an hour to sit and rest...I'm at my best though when that happens...
Judy, you'll have to keep a very close eye on Skittles, she might be in shock..do you normally have the fans running? Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you Alissa,Happy Birthday to you....off key right? Thought is what counts...OMG, painting at your table, so wish I could have stayed longer...I've visited with you and Liz now 2 yrs. in a row, your turn to come visit...
Trisha, did you check your bobbin tension? what is your machine doing..don't you just hate it when you are all gungho and the machine acts up?
I had to clean my craft room this morning because the girls were coming to paint, and, I have a class tonight..that's half the work is the setting up and knowing where everything is...
Susan, just think of the knowledge you are gaining...who knows, one day you'll apply for a more executive position..
Well back to crafts/projects..Paul/Suzanne away for a few days on business so I'll have to entertain myself even more than usual..so far today I've knit cuffs for 'Ernie' costume, put fur for hair on Ernie's head while watching Jim Carrey movie "Yes Man" and laughing my head off, thank goodness Cindy/LeeAnn watched it the other day and know why I'm laughing like crazy....
SIL Linda who came on the Frankenmuth trip and injured her leg called, she spend 2 evenings at the hospital, got fitted for knee brace, bought crutches and prescriptions and still says she's in severe pain..but, like most is fighting it..she's management in the Courts here in Barrie and says they can't do without her right now, so at work she goes..silly thing...
Then she says, 'if I can make it in the car on Saturday I'll come learn how to make Iris folding Christmas cards and a lesson on the knitting machine..finally found a home for one of my machines...did not sell it, just said enjoy..better with her than under one of the beds..lol
Bev, how are things going, are you and Scotty ok.?
Hello All;
Betty - I'm quite the oddball in South Louisiana...I actually don't understand football very well...but it really is HUGE around here...so I keep that to myself...especially now that I am "selling" football on TV and need to learn it. DH LOVES football and is a HUGE LSU Tigers and Saints fan...and he enjoys the High School games although he can miss them and not care much.
But I do love helping the Band and as DS is a Senior...this is my last year to do so.
You guys give me WAY too much credit... Cook ...I am not. (I couldn't if I wanted to due to new job). I have actually ordered all this food and really went past my budget. BUT I keep telling myself....it's my last year....homecoming is special....I'll never get to feed the band again.... Have you ever committed to spending too much money on something you LOVE? Knowing it is slightly unreasonable. My Mom called it her "Cigarette money" since she never smoked.
Judy - I am glad Skittles is okay. I can just picture her "flying free" about the house...but I am learning about birds through you....I didn't realize they "snuggled". I've never had a bird....That is really cool! Yum - I love omelets! My dad always made them for me growing up.
Crissy - I loved hearing about the different states and how they celebrate Homecoming. LA is more like AR ....as you can imagine....but I know if someone mentions they were homecoming queen at an older age...it's not a big deal....it would be strange for someone to just bring that up.....Hmmm....what was that song? Ann Murray? Cheer up Sleepy Jean? "Oh what can it mean ....to a...daydream believer and a Homecoming Queen". Wasn't Ann Murray Canadian?
Anyway - I'm with you...if I ever dream that someone is killed I certainly wouldn't tell them....especially an acquaintance.
Thanks Linda Kay! You are close by in TX....this cooler weather has been VERY nice. Hopefully we won't get rain tomorrow night....as is expected....I'm sure Texas High Schools do homecoming...?
Hugs to all...I'll pop back in a bit....
Mary
Oh yeah, home coming is a big thing here!
Morning everyone!
Morning..
Mary, that's my way of justifying all I spend on crafts, tools etc. - don't drink, don't smoke, geeze louise, gal has to have something they can spend their $$$ on..lol
Waving LindaKay...
Well Betty, I wish the other stores didn't decorate for Christmas until after Halloween here, but all of them do. They started bringing out the Christmas stuff in July, no kidding, and almost all of the stores have decorated for Harvest, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas all at the same time. Really lame and disheartening as this shows how the ole mighty $$ affects the what is supposed to be a very respected holiday.
Betty, I couldn't think of a better way to spend money, but me, well, Dave smokes about 1/2 pack a day, we both drink on the weekends, love going out to dinner, BUT Dave's decided that he wants to fly to Cancun for our anniversary, so that's where my money is going! It's actually cheap from here, $400.00 plane ticket, about $600.00 to rent a condo for a week, if you pick the right condo you don't need a car except for maybe a day or two, and the rest is just spent on tours and what-not, so we will probably be out a little over 2 grand, depending upon if we go to the local 'restaurants' and get $1.00 burritos, $.50 tacos, $.25 Pepsi, just have to remember Don't Drink the Water!
Ohhh Crissy that's worth saving for..how wonderful for you..have you been before?
I'm going to the Garden Gallery at lunch..it's pretty well all Christmas..Michaels as of Tuesday was just starting to set up for Christmas..but you know, for those of us who do Christmas Crafts it's starting to be late..we need supplies in September..too bad we don't know what we'll be doing the next year because think of the savings if we bought after Christmas for the following year..
No I haven't. Dave and his first wife went, that's when he went scuba diving and got too deep without realizing it and blew out his eardrum, the instructor had to grab his line and pull him up as he was almost to run out of oxygen too. He's such a troublemaker! LOL We were going to go on a cruise there, but I can't find a cruise that stops at both Cozumel and Cancun, and he wants to be there for the nightlife, on a cruise we would get there either 8 or 9am and leave at either 4 or 5pm. This way we can take our time, see all of the sights, and do what we want to do on our time schedule. Oh, and there won't be any scuba diving LOL!! I just can't find the condo I want! One is perfect except it says "Minutes away from restaurants, shopping, and nightlife, after reading all 3 reviews it's 40 minutes away! Too far!
Man I don't feel good, I was alright when I got up and now I've got this headache that's almost a migraine, and since I don't get migraines I'm all whiny about it. Took Tylenol on an empty stomach, didn't think about it til after I took it, then ate a bowl of cereal but it's still making my stomach hot and me clammy. I might go home if it doesn't go away.
My mom's reconstructive surgery is today, I think at 8:00am this morning.
Crussy - my thoughts and prayers are with your mom....... Things will go well, I'm sure!
~Susan~
Sending prayers Crissy...
I meant to post the link to the Prayer Forum.

Any news yet Crissy?
Sending prayers your way Crissy. HUGS BEV
Good evening my friends.
Crissy, sending prayers.
How did your moms surgery go? I am hopeful, it was successful.
Please, if everyone will, Liz's Granny needs some T & P's. and for Liz and Kenny too.
I sure hope things will turn out well for you my friends, and Yiyah too.
Just thought you would like to know that.
Hope everyone had a wonderful day.
good night.
and sweet dreams.
Copying this post from Shirley over from the previous thread...
Dear Friends:
I will try to do a quick update on Tubby. I took him to the ER Tues. AM and they admitted him. He has been spiking fevers, confusion and extreme weakness to where he couldn't put one foot in front of the other. He was getting worse so they transferred him to UNMC in Omaha this AM. They have Cardiology, Pulmonary, Infectious Disease, Oncology, & Neurology on board. They have been running test. They did a spinal tap and Fremont and some of those haven't come back yet. They know he has some form of fungal infection that has spread to the brain. They are trying to rule out mets and find the source of infection. It has been very hard. I do have to tell you that when I got to the hospital this AM he was trying to tell me to talk to his two Dr's and get those plants. He has been trying to tell me about how to start different seeds, but gets confused and then he chuckles, and go back to sleep. His mind is working over time, but every once in while he throws a cute one out in mid air and gets everyone laughing. He told us one of Dr.'s there is a doll after she introduced herself. I know she didn't know what to say. He will never remember any of this. His symptoms are so similar to when he had meningitis on the brain six years ago. I need to get a few winks now so I can do some chores early and get back there by 6 AM. It took me a little while how to get in his computer without him and drop you a quick note. Best wishes to all. Talk to you soon.
Tubby & Shirley
