Nice flowers Moon! My brug took a dump in the high winds. We had it in a pot and it fell over. Numerous times. Now it's in a bigger pot and seems to be ok.

I have a question - a guy I work with brought in 4 seedy pods from his calla lilies. He said to stick them in the ground and they'll come up next year. Is this correct, anyone know? They're not the bulb, they're the seed pods. In this area, calla's don't come back. He said his does because when these big, heavy seedy pods grow, they bend over almost to the ground. So they just bury them. Upside down, I might add. So I want to make sure I do right by them, I love calla lilies, but that doesn't sound right to me.

Glenview, IL

Thanks, Moon...lol, you should jump in and visit!
ROFLOL, was thinking my house was starting to look like the Munsters house.

beautiful orchids! I got a berry off of a kousa dogwood tree, and I think I found 2 seeds in it...anyway I'm drying them & I'll plant them outside & see what happens. I read to plant them now, they need cold to germinate. We'll see.

Hi everyone!

Moon, you got me a little confused! I thought your confederate rose was a rose but I was seeing hibiscus leaves! I had to look it up. It IS a hibiscus. It is absolutely beautiful!!! Also the azaleas are stunning!!!

Lynnie, I wonder if you can do that with any dogwood berry. Is there a seed inside any dogwood berry?

Be sure to take photos of all your Halloween decorations!!! Please.

Good Morning Venice. Sorry, should have included Hibiscus mutabilis.....the other nickname for it is Cotton Rose Hibiscus. Those are the hardy gardenia azaleas. Great plant and they stay fairly compact. Hardy to zone 5 and they do rebloom.

I'm going to go back up and click on your link, Moon, but the pods are green.

Keaau, HI

Good day everyone! Aloha aku!

Nice flowers Jean! Are you growing those Brugs outdoors?''

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Aloha Dave! I have to ask you. What does aku mean?

Keaau, HI

Hi Carol!

The translation of aku is; expressing direction away from the speaker.

When used with aloha, it means, hello to you.

Aloha aku, is the greeting that Hawaiians used before missionary times.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dave, then what does A hui hou aku mean?

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I know that! Talk to you later!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

But what does that aku on the end mean?

Keaau, HI

That would be directing the farewell to an individual.

You would say: A hui hou to a group. To a particular person you would say: A hui hou aku.

That is old time proper Hawaiian though. Nowadays, most folks just say: A hui hou.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

ok. That clarifies that!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lowe's had orchids on sale for $2.50. They had between 2-4 stems about 6-7" tall. Is it possible to make them healthy and bloom again? I figure it is ok to ask this when Trina isn't here!

Keaau, HI

Can you show which Orchids you have?

Knowing the Genera can help with caring for them.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Back again...coffee....now.

Smiley did that help? I think the pods he is talking about fall over and dry and get buried in mulch til spring....you only plant the seeds about 1/2 inch deep, I think.

Hiya Dave. Yup, they are growing in the ground, the first one is on the south side, the second one on the north side. I have a few others that are really in need of some serious attention....thank goodness fall is coming...grin The Tibouchina is still cranking out blooms like crazy.

Dave, I did NOT buy them! I was just looking and curious. Of course they didn't have any other name than "tropical - orchid!"

Keaau, HI

Aaah! Tibochina and Melastoma are terrible weeds in Hawai'i!

Do they naturalize in your area?

Thumbnail by Metrosideros
Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Beautiful!!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Not as yet, as they usually freeze back in the winter, but I think they are adapting, as this one got snowed on and didn't even flinch.....grin. My T. compacta froze back, so I am thinking of moving it this year to a slightly more protected area. It takes it too long to come back and its' bloom buds get knocked back with frost before they open.

With orchids, Venice, it just depends on the species and age of the plant and meeting basic requirements. Some are really high maintainance and some are super easy. Glad you didn't buy any with out knowing who they were. grin

Keaau, HI

More Hawaiian weeds!

Here is Mimosa pudica, the Sensitive Plant.

Cool weeds!!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

hello everyone! Moon, that is what happens to my coworkers' lilies, I believe. So it is ok to plant this whole green seed pod about 1/2" deep, do you think?

I was looking at the link you sent, but it seems that would be for dried seeds. These are whole green pods. I found a pic in the plant files, hope it's ok to attach. I just don't know what to do with these things!

eh, figures. but you get the idea.

help me, Obi Wan Kenobi's

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I say go ahead and try it. I am thinking your co-worker doesn't notice the pods on the ground ripening, drying and opening. Normally the seeds need to ripen on the plant, but I can not say with certainty that those will not germinate, so give it a try. I am sorry I can't be of more help here. I think there is a calla lily forum on here. They might have more detailed knowledge for ya, Julie.

Afternoon everyone,

DH will be so happy I got more decorations.
I love these flying bats with glowing red eyes!

Beautiful flowers moon.

Balloons I use in my ghosts kept going flat, but figured out a cure use the wire flower pots( that you use the moss liners in )instead. Knew they would come in handy some day..

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Very welcome...wish I could have given ya more details. Moon

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Absolute genius, JJs.....you will make recyclers happy for re purposing those pots....grin plus you won't have to chase them.....lol

Thanks. Guess I shouldn't complain quite so much about the rain....at least I don't have to water.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dave, can you eat those thimbleberries? What about those apples?
