Photo Contest- Are We There Yet?

Aunt ! might have an idea in there somewhere...how 'bout a "rerun" category? for those that didn't win in previous years to try a photo once more?

I bet the water category will be full of reflections.

"Funny," so that's what's going to end up in misc.! -- unless we delete a category. My head is tired.

Here's a sum of what we've done with a few tweeks:

Would it be possible to add a Fun Random photo like the one for plants and birds, and randomly show pictures of the ones that did not make it into the calender? I realy enjoy that feature on DG.

Wow, I was so sure that when I came back this morning there would be a whole new list!

One more housekeeping thought, it would be helpful if a closing time for the contest was included. It doesn't have to be rigid, but something like "contest will close no sooner than 9:00 a.m. CST (US) on ___ date" or "contest will close sometime after 8:00 a.m. CST on ___ date." That way if it closes a little later, stragglers will feel lucky, and everyone knows that they have to get their pictures in by the morning that the contest closes.

I think Dave has always posted a closing time if I remember correctly.

Really? I didn't see one last year and didn't get a photo in. I wasn't upset about it though b/c I knew that I should have asked.

I just saw that the contest is open! Wow, that was fast. Didn't see a closing time. I guess it doesn't matter. This is a fun contest, and early birds should be rewarded! I've never really been one of those early birds, but I appreciate the concept.

I had said the close would be November 2nd. I went ahead and made it a little more specific:

The contest will close for entries at midnight UTC on November 2nd, 2009 (unix epoch 1257120000).

Now that the contest has started (thanks Dave), I am submitting my 'unofficial Photo Contest categories'. These are partly inspired by this year's deliberations.

5) Wholly Macro
6) All-Invasives Gardens
7) Anything But Roses
8) Poppyrazzi
9) Garden Pest Scat Art
10)Annuals that are sometimes perennials in home gardens at sunset
11) Water, Ice, Fog, Humidity & Sweat

And, since the number of categories seems to be growing exponentially, #53 for next year can be
Plastic Plant Water Gardens.

I suggest also:

Oh man, wouldn't that be a hoot, a fun nonsensical Photo Contest like that running at the same time as the real one?!! Hmmmm...

ROFLOL, Victor ... what a great sense of humor! How about a "Weed" category, or I guess that would that be under the heading of "All Invasive Gardens".

Dahlianut: I like the idea of a "Garden Wounds and Bruises" category ... I sure seem to end up with a lot of those, whether it's from being jabbed with thorns or dropping something on my bare foot! And, I took pictures of some dead plants for someone to use in an article once, so I could probably find a couple of pictures of plants that I've killed for that category! ^_^

oooh, oooh ... and I like #11 in Victors last list: the one with humidity and sweat! It was 94ºF here today, with humidity in the upper 80's! If there were a "Wilted Humans" category I could have surely gotten my picture taken today for that one! ^_^

What an excellent idea and a strong contender for that catagory! I put the tags in their own "Plants I Have Luved and Killed" section in my album.

WOW! I just got home to the computer from a day of work and kid's stuff and errands and I was so surprised to hear the contest is up and going!

And I burst out laughing at victorgardener's:

I have loved being a part of this process everyone. Thanks for letting me. Now I've got to go see if I've got any photos worth a crap or if I'm going to have to get busy so I can at least get some fall ones loaded. :-)

And I have one of you that I was thinking of using....nah, nevermind.

Me too 3gardeners, heading for my pic files seeking contestworthy ones. It will take me a few (or many) hours to weed out the 'what was I thinking' and 'I wonder what that is' and 'oops hair or fingers snuck into that one' pics. Then I will get down to serious business!
