Ok, back on track with pirl's original drama idea, this was is my drama by my front door. It's one of my Aeonium 'Schwarzkopf' blooming at over 6 ft. with the blue-green foliage and lime bloom heads of a euphorbia behind it. This was taken last spring, it didn't bloom this year.

Stunning, Sue. That truly is dramatic as most of the dark leaved plants are.

This is the only good photo I took of the Castor Bean Plant.

I dont know if this belongs here or in worst garden pests thread.
It's going to be drama when this Scotch Pine comes down.
Its marked for demo. in 2 weeks.
The one 10 feet away comes down next year.
I just hope the ferns and astilbes can take that much more light

Mulch them very well, preferably with compost, and drench them next spring. They may still fade faster than astilbe in shade but they will survive if they have enough compost and enough regular watering (including rain).

I am counting on that advise plus the other advise you gave a ew months ago when I freaked out at having to move plants(There is just NO more garden space in shade) You said the plants would ajust to more light.
I have to take down the next pine in the row next year.
am trying to save money to remodel my bathroom. I will see how much I miss the trees AM shade on the deck to see if I want to go to the expense of replacing with a JM or redbud

Any time a tree has to be removed the surrounding plants adapt better if it's done in fall, winter or early spring before they leaf out rather than in the heat of summer when they have huge problems adjusting to harsh sunlight when they've only known shade.

I didnt want it to come down n summer and have all the plants tramped on

I understand completely. We have major work done only when plants have gone dormant or haven't emerged. No room for mistakes during the season.
