The Funk Brothers have played on more number one hits than Elvis, the Beatles, the Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones all together. Everything from My Girl to hits by Marvin Gaye. Berry Gordy broke up the group of fine sessionmen when he moved from Detroit to LA.
ROCK MY GYPSY PLIMSOL
Funk Brothers: A notorious group of Jazz musicians from Detroit!
If the Passionflower is vegetatively propagated and/or a hybrid it might not set fruit. Often two clones are needed to get good cross pollination.
my most played DVD. Can spot the base line of James Jamerson anywhere. You are truly the Gypsy Rock Queen, Moon. Not too many people know who they are.
I grew up in Detroit in the '60's. My brothers used to make me listen on the radio for "the monkey song". When it came on, I would call them & they would come inside & listen to it. Then go back outside & tell me to listen for it again. So while they knew the monkey song... I knew them all. But didn't know about the Funk Brothers until I heard about them on NPR.
my tote bag is a Funk Brothers bag. I love Motown.
Sadly James Jamerson died in 1983, followed by 7 more members between '84 and this year. I am also a big Motown sound fan....that was dance music.....grin
Well I just got another hybrid but I really don't care if the set fruit...I do however wat to try one.....but i'd hate to pollinate nate them and get all this fruit and everyone in the house hate it
My questions on it were about growing it in the house but i appear to be the only dork doing that
Music I like...hhhmm bb king, clapton, stevie ray, janis joplin, Joss Stone, Bonnie Raitt...really depends on what I'm doing
so If I play a little smokey or some commodores your ok with that moon?
Trina, if it has fruit, then the fruit can become seeds!!!!
How about Marvin Gaye "What Going On".
As Passionflowers produce flowers on the current year's growth, it is necessary to prune the vines back in late winter to get a good crop of flowers for the new season. Be sure to give the vines lots of water and liquid fertilizer when you do so.
I haven't raised Passionflowers indoors but am used to growing them in confined areas to produce an optimum amount of flowers and fruit.
ok so I do have to trim it if I want good blooms for next year....good cause it needs moved to a better spot but I was trying to figure out the best way I should do that since it is attached to a wrought iron trells about 7 to 8 feet tall...so triming it would allow me to correct that rookie mistake and a few others I made....LOL
How about Jasminum Polyanthum?
gosh Dave, my absolute favorite Motown song. I believe they recorded that during the riots. That was when my mom shipped us to Buffalo for the summer. They had to hustle the lone caucasian out of Hitsville when they were done for the night.
Trina, you are not alone.... mine is on the porch in a hanging pot. At least you had the sense to let yours grow up. Mine looks like an alien with a million tendrils that keep getting closer.... and closer....
Really sad when Marvin Gaye went away....felt same way with Otis Redding....man, they are closing all the great hotels....
Oh SmileyJ, your quote....was first used in Greatest American Hero with William Katt....had a couple "adventure games" of Douglas Adams' back in the early '80s.....read and type games. And of course the Hitch-hikers Guide to the Galaxy series
Mother, mother
There's too many of you crying
Brother, brother, brother
There's too many of you dying
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some lovin' here today
Father, father
We don't need to escalate
War is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know you've got to find a way
To bring some understanding, yeah today.
motown songs gladys, the supremes, tina and Ike, Barry Gordy was a genius!.....
I like all music tooo hard for me to pick...but my absolute favorite song is Oh what a wonderful world by Louis Armstrong!...I could listen to Dizzy Gillespie all day too...oh and I can't forget aaron neville or the brothers...John lee hooker...ok that's it now I need my iPod
I remember that series! William Katt was Carrie's unrequited love interest in the movie of the same name also.
The quote was actually sent from a vendor looking for payment on an invoice. Of course, I know she's only doing her job. Check's in the mail. LOL! i recognized the author of the hitch-hiker series, just thought the quote was so funny when I tried to picture it.
That's pretty ominous weather you have there, Moon.
beautiful rainbow Dave!
that makes me think of
listen to the rhythm of the falling rain
telling me just what a fool I've been
I wish that it would go away
and let me be alone tonight
music is a wonderful thing. they did a study up here (I'm sure it's done all over) and determined, through actual scientific study, that kids who play musical instruments learn better in all subjects.
now my girl... she's musical... and I'm sure if she applied herself....
(she'll get there, I'm sure.)
I use to play the trumpet cause I wanted to be Dizzy and Louis when I grew up
William Kat has sort of become a Hollywood/TV factotum.....no great recognition, just in tons of things over the years.
The quote has been one of my favorites for years....it was from the instruction manual that went with the Hero suit.....when something is really difficult to understand, we use that quote. "Learning Algebra is like learning to fly......grin
Hey Dave Aloha ahiahi. Thanks for the lyrics and the rainbow....had lots of rain, just no rainbows.....made for a happier day....grin
too many melodies!!! It took me a minute, Trina, to figure that one out. And I have Aerosmith on the radio behind my desk, doesn't mix...
~~ whistle~~ ~~ whistle ~~ ~~ whistle ~~
la la la!! (yes, it's a boring day here at Bison Labs, folks! Girl has all her work done, all the ice melt quotes are in the mail, and so are the early buy quotes for next spring!)
Nice rainbow Dave. Is that a daily occurrence?
aah, I've seen you post that before, Moon.
I took 3 trumpet lessons, Trina. Couldn't get it very well. My girl tried tuba last summer, the school lost all the tuba players (they graduated). THAT's a tough instrument! Can you still play? I used to play piano, but I don't have the magic ear. Daughter does, though.
Anyone else play an instrument?
GSJordan plays trumpet and trombone and is very casually learning acoustic guitar and electric bass. DHJim played trumpet , coronet nose, and air guitar and is learning didgeridoo. All of us play something....sometimes its just the radio.....grin
GSJordan is taking a break from band...five years was enough committment....grin. He is in navyjrotc this semester. seems to appreciate the challenge, but still gripes about it....58 certainly gives you an interesting perspective on 15 year olds in general
Ukelele's absolutely count! DH says your voice is an instrument, too!
You got it Dave...if we let Yammy play the harp, you gotta know your ukelele is oba-kay-be...grin
too much morning fog for any rainbows in the AM...and Dave, I am considerably further East and in-land from ya....grin
Moon, I for-real LOL'd.
and if I remember right, isn't Dave sharing his ukulele with another crop? I seem to remember a post... with sunglasses...
AHA! SmileyJ ya smoked him out....he did upgrade Yammy to the uke.....nice to see your friends again Dave....grin
Holy Toledo! Jesus, Mary & Joseph! I guess Dave plays guitar...
Yow, Moon, did you know you had such a talented Band? I'll keep the books.
i can play trumpet, bass, guitar, saxophone, piano, drums I'm learning...and I can play a wicked kazoo!
Dave can you send me a fruit so I can try one....they don't carry those at my local farmers market
I forgot the banjo and fiddle too
LOL JUlie
Angela (daughter) has Grandpa's kazoo, dere. (my FIL is/was polish)
you're pretty talented, Trina! DH could design an album cover... or a virtual tour poster...
Can't send the fruit, as it's illegal. I can send seeds; planting P. edulis from seed is the best way to get vines which are heavy flower & fruit producers.
My vines are in mid-season, they are making flowers & fruit, there will be some ripened up within a couple weeks.
I have some weird spoon-thing I can use. Or I can bang the drum all day (BAD song - BAAD song)
Dave is prepared, Trina is trying to decide WHICH instrument to bring to practice, and Moon is... I don't know where Moon went. I think she's helping JJs with the spiders.
