Tropical Garden # 52

Red Oak, TX

Thanks, Happy_1

Jeri11, I spent quite some time trying to pick the prettiest hibiscus flower, and came to the conclusion that I love them all. What a colorful garden you must have.

budgielover, those are some nice big tropicals you have there, the candlestick tree is awesome. I did recognize most of your plants except the yellow one behind the Pride of Barbados. Very soon you will not have any grass left to mow, just keep enlarging the EE bed.

Rj, you are right, the branches of the clerodendrum Indicum are sagging with the weight of the blooms which have no color yet. The one and only time that I saw this plant was in your garden, I will treasure it. Let's see which one will bloom first, budgielover in Florida, yours in Houston or Red Oak.

joeswife, you first morning glory picture is very pretty, I can also see a few little tomatos as well. I am still waiting on my white Cypress vine to bloom, it had better hurry up, I had to wear a sweat shirt this morning.

Texasbigleaves, did Ray give you a name of the seedling? They are looking very good.
Is your up up and away picture the Special Alocasia from Lari Ann? Exactly how tall is it? 10-15 ft ?
I was hoping someone else would help you to ID your exotic fruits, as I will only have to take a guess.

Sounds like yours might bloom first. Just remember, that after the bloom we get a second show when they all turn bright red. Mine are just setting blooms.

Placencia,
I can'nt recall its name, but you have the yellow-red one. You gave me one but it died. I saw some at a house in O.C. that were 6-7ft. tall, and full of blooms. Jerry

Placenciarita, Yes it's one of my LairAnn EE's. It did'nt grow as tall as last year but it's 11ft. tall. Jerry

There is an older couple down the street a block from here with two huge magnoilia trees that delight us with blooms every year.. I havn't seen them out and about lately.. I am going to go see them and ask for some seeds as an excuse.. he was my dogs vet for many years.. I am used to saying good morning to them as I head out to my car.. I hope they are okay..
I found this in the tomatoe patch.. I forgot I planted it there..
I love unusual looking blooms..

joeswife,

Me thinks you must be my age, 69. You spelled the fruit on the last post, "TomatoE" That's the way I learned along with potatoe.

Hap

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Hap... isn't that how its spelled? LOL I love fort lauderdale.... I thought I would be going to see my nephew, but he went up to Virginia.. sheesh! Question for you tropical gurus.... will caladiums come back if left in the ground?

I doubt they will return for you. you will have to lift. It's even "iffy" in my zone nine. If fall/winter are not too wet, return rate is much higher.

North Port, FL(Zone 9b)

Mine come back every year but you would have to lift yours and store over winter. I love the color of your lantana.

Deb I'm not sure caladiums would come back for you in your zone. They might freeze. I leave some in pots on patio and they always return; plus often times some of my bulbs get left in the ground here in zone 9 and they do come back but we have fairly mild winters. Also if it is a wet winter, they will rot from too much moisture. I used to plant caladiums all along the front of my house a couple of years ago and i always dug them up and stored them in my garage because I would plant winter annuals in their place.

Rj and budgielover, your pictures of your Clerodendrun Indicum, has me more excited than ever. I am only showing buds at this time but hopefully, before I have to put the cover on my hoop house, I wll be able to take beautiful pictures like yours.

Rj, That is great advice. After lots of disapontments with mail order, I have narrowed it down to only 3 places.
btw, your done blooming shot is a prize winning picture.

Joeswife I do have to dig my caladiums as well. I bet your back yard is not only looking pretty but the fragrance from your monster white is very pleasing. That is a unusual morning glory flower, I like it.

Texasbigleaves, I think that you are refering to the Pride of Barbados, I sure woud like to get my hands on a pink one.

Texas, your leaves are BIG! LOL
I just love this thread.. okay I brought in one of the Iochromas for the winter, two of my caudex mgs, one of the accolasias.. will it continue to grow? Is it okay to fake it in a fake tropical like garden inside? Cuz.. that is what I am about to do.. I guess my pink caladiums will have to be dug up.. as well as the lime zinger and well shoot.. all of them?
Garsh dang it...
