Patty ..remember that bromeliad you gave me that blooms around Christmas. It must have been happy..it was pretty much covered up by another plant so I didn't notice that it grew...

i went wlking my dog the other morning to find these in the garbage pile with a bunch of avocado branches. at first i thought it was a huge staghorn fern but when i got closer it is a huge bunch of oncidium orchids. amazing what people throw out.

I have posted pictures before of the orchids that I had picked up by the side of the road, which bloomed spectacularly three months later.....

I found this pretty yesterday at HD for 6.99. I already have a potted one that have never gotten around to transplanting. I may plant the new one inground. Don't you just love bargains?

Great find! I would never have guessed that to be a croton. Do they make it through the winter in Houston? They usually lose all their leaves at the first hint of cold weather here but I am thinking I might try some in the ground with that FreezePruf stuff Randy has mentioned.

My first one is potted and has not required protection but it loses most of its leaves. Since it was only $7, I might chance it and tuck it inground somewhere. This is the only croton that has survived any winter for me.

candela, it is always so very nice to see what you have blooming in your yard.

Dutchlady, we are not as fortunate to find cool tropical plants in the trash, but last week I did find this cool litle wagon.

vossner, That is one of my favorite crotons, great buy

I will start a new thread # 52
