I found then at two diff. nurseries, caldwells and enchanted gardens. I may be going to dallas in oct, could ask caydee if she has one and bring to you

I don't really like crinums but I do like the golden one. My friends say it looks sickly or dead, but I love it. I have 3 pups that are taking way too long to look like something but when they do, watch out!

the white var. bougie is AWESOME

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I agree - about the white bougie and that Costus Lateriflorus is pretty darn cool too.

Love those higes, rita, esp the red one.. I have killed three bouganvillias.. don't guess I will try again.. My hubby loves them and doesn't understand why I can't grow them..
I have no clue about those heliconia.. I love to look at all your plants on this forum..

debra, i kill those bougie too and they are one of my favorite childhood flowers. I think of my grandmother's house with a humongous one growing over the side of the house with a swing underneath it. In my country, the literal translation for their name is 'paper flowers'. Once their leaves fall of, they don't usually survive the winter. I just bought one a month ago on clearance at the local nursery for 2.50!

I am definately a PINK girl!!!!! Oh looks yummy, Deb! Is that a cestrum? I have the red, a golden, and a compact purple, which is rather a pale pink but that one is a pretty pink. Or is it an iochroma?

Rita I think I bought my red plumbago at either Caldwell's or Wayne's (Zone 9) when we went in February. It hasn't bloomed yet, but I think it is an early spring bloomer. (Is that right vossner???)

I will try and remember to take a picture of the QA crinum.

I've got to get my camera out. My ruttya that I bought at Caldwell's is blooming. I have waited all summer to see what the flowers looked liked. It has the daintiest clusters of pink flowers. They are the cutest! I need to check and see how hardy it is. I don't want to lose it this winter.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yes, it's a spring bloomer...Wayne took cuttings from one I bought at a private sale a couple of summers ago...it blooms well in spring.

I had to share this easy breezy way of making omlettes - works great for larger parties.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Patty, yes it is a PINK cestrum, rooting just fine for you.. I know u have been waiting for a long time for my PINK PATTY PAckage LOL I wanted to send some rooted plants along with the seeds..
I can send you three different kinds of Pink flowering border dahlias as well.. Mine come back each year and they set tubers..
This Manihot came from Lazlo, as a seed.. I am very pleased with the blooms on it.

Pink Lady Thumbs...

Thumbnail by joeswife

I have the variegated Manihot and have never had flowers.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Similar names but different plants. I have the variegated also and it is a Manihot esculenta.

I am pretty sure the plant pictured is the Abelmoschus manihot. This one is in the hibiscus family.

BTW, the variegated manihot is deer candy; they love the stuff.

They can come eat all they want but we don't have deer here. I will seriously rip those bushes out any day now, they get very big, but it's a temporary hedge until the real one grows up.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I could buy a lot more plants if I didn't have to spend so much $ on deer repellents. LOL

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

ardesia have you tried putting cut hair clippings around your bed? I've heard that really works well.

Winter Haven, FL(Zone 9b)

No Deer Problems here either. We have a lot of rednecks with lots of guns. Anything that moves is fair play. ha ha ha

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh Deb thanks so much. Dahlias--woo hoo!!! I'm glad you have waited. The start of school and my son's football season are keeping me busy right now. I can't wait to try the pink dahlias. I have been looking at sites of dahlias and would love to experiment and see how they would do here. The pink ones are always so pretty!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

They are freaking me out a bit on how expensive they are

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Go ahead and bite the bullet RJ. You know you want some!!!! LOL

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I do, but I think in order to have the effect I want, I will want to plant a few. I read that site you sent me and it seems that a nice number of them will do good here.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

Dan,
Please send your rednecks here. I have some neighbors I can "flush out". LOL

Winter Haven, FL(Zone 9b)

ha ha ha, yeah you don't have many "country boys" over that way.

Pinellas Park, FL(Zone 9b)

lol, This used to be a redneck town.

To keep the deer away, I find that the egg yolk spray mixed with water works really well. You just have to remember to respray after about 3 weeks. And they hold up in the rain too.

Sunshinesw, I like the Cat Wiskers plant in your last picture, I found them at Amost Eden.

vossner, thanks, that is very kind of you. LMK

ardesia, thanks, I am glad that you like the white bougainvillea. It is a shame that I will have to prune all those flowers off, next month.

LiliMerci, from your bougainvillea picture I can see that your Cicken Gizzard is doing very well. That was a very good buy!!

Joeswife, your garden is bursting with color, I do like this time of the year. The pink lady thumbs is a new plant for me, I have never seen it before.
Friday was our first dry day for over a week now, I noticed that the morning glory seeds are sprouting on the vine.
I am enjoying your lovely blooms. thanks

Happy_1, I am sorry that we did not have a answer for your Heliconia problem, maybe someone will, soon.

Rj, good luck with your new Dahlia obsession, I tried and failed a few years back.
I am glad that you mentioned the oppossums, I was wondering what was happening to my ripe fruits and my dog food
