I don't know why my lily of the Nile aka agapanthus bloom so late. I think this is Elaine, a dark blue.

Wow that's a pretty plumie. Look how full the inflo is. I bet it smells good too!!!

My agapanthus have not bloomed yet. I do have one I planted at my church and it bloomed early spring. I do like your dark blue colored one. It is worth waiting for.

I don't know if I'm imagining things but we're having a delightful rainy spell and it seems it is releasing extra fragrance from my plumies and others. could it be?

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

vossner I have been having a nice rainy spell too this past week--this the first nice rainy spell we've gotten all summer having been in a drought. I will have to go out and check the plumies for fragrance. I am hoping for a flush of green growth and blooms after this nice rain spell.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow
Buchart gets better every time I see it! This is the 4th time I've been there. The stars of the garden were the Dahlia's. Unfortunately the system called 'pluck' at the chronicle is having major issues today, so I'm organizing the pictures and getting ready to post when the system is back up again. There will be two parts..1 of Buchart in general, then the Dahlias. Can we grow them in Houston, because they left me speechless! Okay, I said wow a lot!
I'll post a teaser though so ya'll won't have a flower riot! :)

I have never had any luck with dahlias, but they sure are pretty.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Most dalhias melt in the heat around here but I suspect there are some heat tolerant varieties out there.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

We have had dahlia coops and I have participated (surprise, surprise). 1-2 have done really well for me (of a gillion) and are very low maint. At this point I no longer have tags, so can't even tell you which ones they are.

Worth trying. The short ones that one can get a Home Depot don't last a week for me.

Sunshinesw, I like the banana plant in the night picture, what is the name ?

Yellow Butterfly Vine, a great perennial

RachelLF, I have always been a fan of the A. Cucullata. I have been trying to find the variegated version.
This is A. Borneo Giant, last year this time it was twice this size.

Lakesidecallas, I usually get very nice foliage from the Calla's, they are gone for the season. I am planning to buy a few more bulbs to try in pots next year

Joeswife, have a good visit to the Botanical gardens, and if your plants floated away we will replace them.
Your SIL fuscia is very pretty

Rj,I hope that pluck will be up and running soon, that is a great teaser. I think that everyone in Texas is happy today . We got some rain.

Vossner, thanks for starting the new thread.
The bloom on the Sierra Leone Lily is insignificant (kinda ugly)
Love your Cannas.
This is a candlestick plant, I was told that there is a purple one as well, I have yet to see it

Hello everyone!!! Your flowers and yards are spectacular!!!! Have to share this gorgeous Peach Schnapps Hibiscus.

WOW, that is lovely!

Pensacola, FL(Zone 8b)

I agree that Peach Schnapps Hibiscus os beautiful.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Great photos everyone!
Placenciarita, ice cream banana pup I just planted this year after I dug out all 30+ plantains. I was hurting for 2-3 months after.
Someone said ice cream bananas are delicious, if not I am chopping it down before it gets out of hand. I have another plantain patch on the other side of the house, I think maybe 40 plantains there. I've been whacking down pups but they keep coming up. Grrrr

Maybe you can advertise on Craigslist - 'free plantain plants, you dig'...

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

I could but I don't want strangers coming around lurking to see what else is available, you just never know these days.
Some people have bunch stuff stolen after putting free stuff on the Craig's lists.

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

TY!!!! Peach Schnapps is among my favorite. This is Leonotis menthifolia or the common name is Lions Tail.

placen.

Please tell me more about your Borneo Giant. I was part of the Agristarts coop and I have three, yes I said THREE, to plant. (Not to mention the other insanities) You said that it is not as big as last year. Does yours die down and then come back? How big was it last year?

It looks like a challenge.

Hap

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

All my EE's tend to get smaller after the first year. What am I doing wrong?

Red Oak, TX

Jerii11, beautiful picures, I will have to find me a Peach Schnapps, she is a beauty.

Sunshinesw, I should have recognized the Ice Cream Banana plant. I do have a few of them. Are your plantain bananas the short fruits, or are they the foot long frying plantains?

Happy_1,the Borneo Giant was 6-7ft last year, they do die down and come back in the spring, from pups. I do overwinter them in the GH. It seems as if this year, the Alocasis are much slower than previous years, my plants are 3 years old from Natural Selection Exotics.
My friend Texasbigleaves grew his to over 10 ft last year, they were magnificent.

This is the bulb for the picture shown,

Ardesia, I am having the same problem, I hope someone has an answer for us.

White Duranta

Thumbnail by prita
Central, LA(Zone 8b)

Hello Rita & Ardesia do Ya think that they are smaller because they have pupped and need to be divided?

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Wow, that Peach Schnapps is a beauty and I am usually adverse to anything orange, but I sure like that one!

Central, LA(Zone 8b)

I wasn't excited about it either. I got stuck with 2 of them. Teehee!!! That has changed !!!! I'm rather proud of it now!!!!

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

the white duranta looks beautiful, does it smells good too?

I have the white and blue Duranta planted side by side, they both have a good fragrance.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I didn't know white duranta was frag. I'll have to ck mine out. I'm trying to grow mine as a std, so far, so good. Actually, it behaves better than the blue duranta b/c is doesn't die back in winter, whereas blue one does. jmmm.

Ardesia, some of my EEs don't thrive and I'm suspicious that they are in too much shade. Something to consider.

Rita, I looked up purple candlestick in the PF but it is not in the senna family. Could it be one of those confusing common name mixups?

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Good morning!
Rita, it's short plantains. My neighbor likes to boil & mashed green bananas.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Oh, look what I found the other day. Some kind of ginger? very pretty soft pink on top and yellow on the bottom
