September Blooms

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

It is now Sept. the kids are in school, the birds are flocking, I am seed gathering and the community Fair is in 2 weeks. It is time to show off our September blooms and start thinking about our gardening mistakes ( which will be on another thread). I'll start you off with some mums.

White bordering the driveway. This is one plant but the bottom is bloom first. I am standing over the plant for this picture.

This is Sweet Annie, she smells wonderful when you brush against her. This one got 6 foot tall. Sweet Annie is an annual but will reseed all over the yard but I don't mine that much as they are easy to pull out and the fragrance makes the job enjoyable.

Well, I missed a month's worth of photo taking in the garden. The first part of August I was too busy planting and the last 3 weeks I've been too winded to walk around the place. The beds are all a mess needing lots of clean up and weeding, but I did get a few pix.

I'm particularly thrilled with the late color of this Hydrangea Annabelle bloom.

I put these Oriental Lilies "Avacado" in mid summer. I did not expect them to bloom this year.

I really love this new fern. It's called "Frizellae"

Here's a climbing Hydrangea that I got for $20 at a local produce stand. Quite a bargain for this one at this size. It is the only pink climber. I'm still undecided as to whether to plant it by a trellis or let it climb a tree.

So much dead heading to be done here. Asters are popping every where. Most of mine came from the produce stand last year and they look like all of them have survived. I had cut these all back in July along with the mums but it was mid july, so my mums are late.

Very pretty stormyla--and glad you're feeling better-!- I LOVE that color of that crepemyrtle. Too many insipid old pink ones around here.

Didn't want to let this topic slide---just in case one of you will decide for this "adoption".
C/P'ed it here on the new thread.

And--here is my HUGE "Maya" Brug.
I have decided that I do not want to keep this any more. It has grown too large.
I have a nice cutting (from last Fall) growing and will start with that all over again. I just do not have room for a small tree in my basement. It is already making a pile of buds for it's last flush of bloom. This will be #3. Might take a couple of cuttings like i did last fall.

I wrote an e-mail to Rawlings Conservatory and sent pictures to see if they, ot the Cylburn Arboretum would like to adopt it. I am NOT holding my breath. Beings it is labor Day weekend--I will not hear from them for some time.
MEANWHILE!!!!! If they say "NO"--I may advertise it and see if I can sell it. OR...

I would like some of you that live in this area to think about adopting this from me. FREE!
You WILL need a Van or a P/U truck to get it home. It is in an 18" pot half-buried in a flower bed.

OK! On to show they (in case you missed it before) the 2nd bloom flush it had in August...

Since it is already growing buds for the next one--I feel it needs to find a home asap!

Keep your fingers crossed!!!! G.

Beautiful Brug, Gita.

Sally, If you want, if there are suckers, I can give you one from the Crape in the spring. That 10' tall tree grew from a 18" twig planted 4 years ago.

love the crape Stormy!!... and Gita that brug is amazing... hope someone gives it a home

The red crape is gorgeous! I like the redder colors.

The blooms on this Lady in Red Hydrangea are taking on their dark pink fall color. The stems have now turned completely dark red and the leaves are starting to turn red too. Last year I thought that this bush was full grown. It's supposed to get 4' x 4'. This year it has put up new branches that are yet another 18" taller.

Here it's putting out a new bloom. I didn't even notice this in it's white stage, it's now in midsummer color.

I don't have the name of this lacecap Hydrangea. In midsummer the blooms were a dark fuschia. I like it's white stage just as well.

This Agastache Tutti Futti has been blooming for about 2 months. It keeps getting bigger and bigger and more floriferous.

These Asters are really getting going now. They are unamed varieties that came from the produce store last fall. They are a lot taller this year. They are now over 2' tall. Last year they weren't even 1' tall. I had cut these back to 12" in mid July.

These Gloriosa Daisies, that I think are the ones that Lady gave to me, are growing and blooming nonstop for 2 months now.

I have a few of these little Dicentra now blooming.

These Geranium Rozanne were bought in July at a half price sale. They were planted in August and I did not expect to see any blooms this year.

This Salvia Black & Blue is new this summer. I planted them in June after seeing Wisdmskr's lovely photos of hers. They are short this year, only about 18". I'm very pleased with the color.

This Helennium is called Silberstein. It is new this year and now is only 24" tall. It will get quite tall next year. In June I purchased 4 different Helennium divisions on the DG Classifieds from Lincolnitess. The plants that she sent were large enough to be divided into 2 & 3 plants each. She charged $4 per plant. Watch for her ads as Helennium are quite expensive

This Agastache is called Blue Fortune. They are new this year. I planted 6 of these in my Roadside bed that is under Maples and is dry as dust. They are all doing well. They are about 24" now and are supposed to get 3 to 4' tall. The wind does not bend these.

The Jacob Kline Monardas that I have growing in shade are all putting on a rebloom now. The ones planted in sun have not yet rebloomed.

These Echinace Ruby Star are new this year and have been blooming for more than 2 months. When these blooms are fresh they are a much darker Rose color than the regular Echies. The blooms on mature plants are also larger than normal Echies. I have some of these also planted in full sun, but the blooms on those fade a lot faster than those planted in part shade. Actually, all of my Echies do better in shade than in sun. They are all planted under Maples and don't mind the dryness.

This Agastache is Black Adder. It has been blooming non stop since Mid July. It was planted last year. It is in the driest windiest section of my Roadside bed under Maples. It is over 4' tall and does not bend at all.
