Hi Arejay

Good choice. I have a spot for it and it will come back.

First time I've grown Dahlias. Wanted to see if they were worth the trouble with staking. I think they're kinda cool. Anybody grow them?

Here's another one.

I grow them!! I love them. Have you rooted any? They root very easily.....

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

HI Everyone. Robin if you know someone who works in the hospital cleaning dept ask if they can get you some of that plastic stuff they use to keep medical stuff cold. Looks like bubblewrap only you put it in the freezer to get it cold and it stays cold for a long time.
Seray I have some dahilas here hubby likes them I'm going to put the plants he likes all in one spot next year and call it his garden. He goes in for tropical looking stuff mostly.
I englarged my iris bed this morning. Planted something he brought in last night haven't a clue what it is probably a weed but he liked the flowers on it so it got planted. Going to go clean up around the outside of the beds in a bit then might start on the shady bed getting it ready for it's redo. After I repot some plants for friends and family.

Rooting never even crossed my mind. LOL How's that for Newbie thinking. I will try it though. Baggy method with root hormone?

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

That will work but no need for the baggie that's how easy they are to take root. I rooted by accident the first time. Then on purpose to send flower one. Just took a snip dipped in rooting hormone and into a pot...but soil in a baggie and sipper her up would work fast...

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Ok I don't know any dr's personally an occupational therapist but she is hours away. So I am going to freeze them you they are going into pie anyway. They freeze very well and a little juices when they thaw wont make any difference to the pie....Off they go to the freezer and tomorrow in the mail...

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Sounds good Robin ;-) So you can root stuff by just throwing them in a sandwich bag with soil and dipped in root hormone? How long does it usually take to get good enough roots to pot?

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Time depends on a lot of things. Temps, light kind of plant. Its all a gamble....your guess is as good as mine

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Well I have a couple gardenia, hydrangea, hibbies, that I dipped in root hormone and put in little 2" planters. Just wondered how long it would take. Guess I should just ignore them and stop checkin' 'em, lol

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Change of plan.. I am going out to plant some lily grass that honey sent me and transplant some elephant ear to my tropical garden.. and THEN go to the Post Office ! I transplanted one of my hibiscus trees from the back into my tropical garden and ended up with like 7 divisions. Some look good, some not so good.. Keep ur fingers crossed that they make it!

Good Morning! Hope everyone has a great day!

Good morning e1, seray!

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Mechelle,
I think you have it girl. Put them in the baggie or the jar over them or don't. Then trust completely that they will root and walk away. When the thought of hope that the roots are there enters your mind instead of the thought I am just going to go and see I'm sure they aren't rooted yet. Then go and check.

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

goodmorning all ... My dahlia rooted with in 2 weeks by just sticking them down in a pot of soil.. my son broke off a stem when mowing so now i have 2 lol.. Dahlias are worth the time.. they just bloom and bloom most of the summer... I only have one dinnerplate(purple) dahlia but I bought tomato cages from walmart for .25 each just last week so that is what im staking mine with ..Its only about knee high right now..If any one would like to share a cutting of dahlia I'd love to root it...

I ordered some seeds for a passion flower 2 days ago.. Lo and behold I was at the pecan plant getting crushed shells yesterday..guess what?? A huge vine growing wild all over the fence...lol so go figure... I got several long pieces to root... Are the balls that hang from the vine the seed pods? or some type of fruit...I think the seeds i ordered are a lil different from the wild variety... If any one wants a piece of it I will be glad to grab some more off the vine... Looks like it must have been growing there for years.. I was there about 2 weeks ago and didnt even notice it..It was covered in flowers yesterday ... Heres a picture of my find from yesterday

I started dwarf geranium by just sticking cuttings in water.. had nice big roots within 3weeks... If you would like to have some cuttings from that just let me know also...

ok Im off to do some work in a new flower bed I built after my trip to lowes 2 weeks ago
Hope you guys have a great day... Trish

Huney I would like to have some of those geranium cuttings please. And a few of the passion flower for a friend.

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Good morning all!

Quite a bit of rain here yesterday from mid afternoon and thru the night! Sun is out now, but we are forecast for more of the same this afternoon.

Still on the look out for the 'mysterious' arrival that everyone seems to know about but me :) Still have no clue what it is.

mekos... just transplanted 4 Salmon Perfection brugs to individual pots... those from he seeds you gave me.. and the red Sanguinea is doing well too.

existing brugs in ground in the front beds are ion a growth spree, hoping they 'Y' very soon.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

GM Everybody, Cloudy and looks like it just might shower here but who knows NOT ME LOL

Great Cue, The Brug goddess are watching out for you afterall.

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

I had never heard of putting your bulbs in sawdust. Hmm. I can get plenty of that from my new friend with the sawmill. I ended up NOT going to the post office at all yesterday or planting.. I took a looooong nap! I laid down right after my last message and slept until like 6:30.. The kids didn't even wake me up when they came home. Then I was mad at myself for not getting anything done outside! lol, guess I just needed the rest. Still feel tired today but I have to get some stuff done. Hope you all have a wonderful day! ttys

Mechelle, At the rate you have been running, I'm not surprised. You just needed a break. This weather is good for getting work done. I cut grass yesterday some, and raked some for my lasagna garden. Paying for it today.LOL

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Supposed to be under 100 all weekend . . . I'm pretty stoked if that turns out to be true. Got lotsa work to do outside and haven't been able to do much due to the heat.

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

awww... Mindy its a dwarf gardenia... not geranium ..Im sorry about that... Cuttings are still available if you would like some of those.... Mine rooted easily in water with a lil peroxide added.. I planted some wild geraniums this morning guess thats what I had on my mind...Just send me a dmail with your address..

Here's a picture of a few blooms on mine this year...

Gardenias smell soooooooo heavenly . . .

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

Here is a picture of my end of the season sale garden from Lowes...I ran in the day I bought the plants and put them in the ground... didn't amend the soil or anything just buried them.. So now I've gone back and dug all the grass out... put all my layers for a lasagna garden in there( pecan hulls, dead leaves... grass clippings) then covered it with landscape fabric..sprinkled grass clippings(hope this wasn't a mistake) over the black material then covered with pecan shells... Im only half way through.. Have to go back for more shells tomorrow...

HI Everyone. Cue has the mail run yet at your house?
I'm getting showers off and on all day so far so it's work in between. Neighbor lady had hubby cut a shrub for her this morning and he brought the cuttings to me at lunch. No idea what they are and she doesn't know just said her mom gave it to her and it's a shrub that likes to climb walls. Looks like an ivy to me but I haven't a clue. Hoping she asks her mom so I can find out what it is. Can't take pictures of it camera says battery too low.

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

here's one more picture

Thumbnail by huneybunch_2000

Looks great Huneybunch!!! I think all the goodies you're putting on top will eventually leak down through the fabric. It'll certainly help with the weeds. The people who built my house did the exact same thing with the beds here. Worked fine. Azaleas they planted grew like wildfire.

Sure looks pretty with the hulls. Once I figure out what is which with my dahlias I'll be happy to send you some rooted cuttings. Gotta practice that rooting. LOL

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

ok great... Jan I would love to have some....I dont mind rooting them If you dont have the time...Yeah IM anxious to get the bed finshed now(ha never finished) but at least all covered with pecan hulls...Have to take my son to get allergy shots today and then football game tonight... Have to go look at a horse to buy for my son tomorrow morning then another football game tomorrow night.. Ha maybe DH and DK will help me over the weekend... I think im gonna cover my lasagna bed in pecan hulls before I cover it with top soil...

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Flower for your zone cuttings now would have to start inside it will be well ready to plant by spring I dont think they will last the winter outside there unrooted

Florence, KY(Zone 6a)

Should we have received our newbie seeds by now? Not sure how long it takes.

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

yes I will keep my babies indoors until spring...Ok im off to the Dr's office and football game ttyl Trish

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi Lolly all of the envies went out yesterday or Tuesday so you should have them by tomorrow if you dont already. If you don't have them by Mon let me know. Dmail me.
Honey aren't you in Arizona? Does it get cold where you are?

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

Mindy- mail has run today, no mysterious arrival as of yet...LOL

Well Cue, if you only knew what we know!!!!! Keep looking. Hehehe

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

lol.. the suspense is killing me

Oh great brug goddess- keep Cue safe and don't let the suspense kill her before her surprise gets ther(IF she has one coming???) Grow her brugs super strong and fast and let her see blooms that last. For if she thinks she has failed, she might go and cast a spell. (And Lucy might not be happy with that). So let her know a good day is dawning, and give her godesses, what she is wanting. Love ya Cue.

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Hmmmmmm well what do you think it might be? I'm sure you have all kinds of notions going through your head about it.
