Found you! Cooking Eggplant Parmesan for dinner with fresh from the garden eggplant!

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

MMmm sounds good loca... Had a pretty busy day today.. Picked up about 8 wheelbarrows of horse manure and did another layer of brown. My son helped me.. what will I ever do with out him? He picked up about the same of grass cuttings from the field for another layer.. I started 3 more beds.. Two by the future pond and the other side of the driveway. I'm almost ready for top soil on most of them. I can't wait to start planting! I decided to do Canna Lilies at the end of the new pond, so I am on a quest for those now too. I only have one variety. There is an island in the center of the pond that I need to clear out and start planting there.. Guess what? I have found about 10 baby cedar trees in the last couple days. I have some in pots until I decide where I am going to put them. My DH said he is going to build me a little bridge that goes across the island to the other side. Exciting! WalMart has bags of pine mulch for $2.50 so I got a few of those and some more MG Peat Moss and Potting Soil. But I found out that my sister and brother in law are coming to live with us for a while.. He got laid off and they need our help, so here they come with their motorhome this weekend. I am trying to think positive about it :-)

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Good evening all! Just got home with another pickup load of manure and aged straw. Oh, and 2 old wagon wheels for clems to climb on. Now if I could just find an old wagon hitch! Looks like tomorrow will be a day of shoveling, digging, etc.! Gotta love those lasagna gardens! Now if I could just figure out what to fix for supper! Oh, and I stopped and picked up mail and had a big fatty envy full of seeds and bulbs! Woohoo!

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Woohoo skellogg! Score!!

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Mechelle, look at it this way, at least you will have more help hauling horse manure and planting things. It won't be too bad, I'm sure. And it will help that they have their own place, so to speak. I wouldn't mind my sister at all, she is a work-a-holic, but please, not my BIL. LOL! Can't wait to see how great your place is going to look with all those flowers in bloom! Not wonder you're anxious!

Palm Coast, FL(Zone 9a)

LOL... in case no one noticed.. there is a new thread :)

Spooner, WI

Arejay, what's the deal with the jars? Just stick them over the seeds when you sow in the spring? Any fancy tricks?

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

No ptilda over the rose cuttings. Are you trying to help KT2 confuse me?

Mona in Metcalfe, ON(Zone 5a)

I love eggplant brushed with olive oil and done on the bbq with some peppers and zucchini mmmmmm so good

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Robin, we need more info on this! Please, do you use rooting compound? plant the cutting immediately? soak in water first? Please help us! Do you only do this with rose cuttings or have you tried this with any thing else?

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

I cant think right now Skell I am only able to think about the grilled eggplant with olive oil and zucchini is there garlic and tomato with that?

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Arejay when you have time go into a little more detail Please. Especially with the baggie thing.

Sundance, WY(Zone 3b)

Good morning all! The day is beautiful here! Was out checking on things, and saw my first hummingbird of the year this morning! I am sure they have been here for awhile, but I just never got to see any yet. A good day for sure!

Monticello, KY(Zone 6b)

Good morning everyone. Beautiful day here so I'm off to dig in the dirt awhile.

Good morning Everyone. Busy day today. I'm off and you know what that means. Chores!!! LOL

Hope everyone has a bright and peaceful day! Will be checking in for the 'Rose Jar' saga.

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

Goodmorning all... Hope everyone is having a great day...Im getting my garden tilled today for the planting of turnip greens, radishes and mustard greens, maybe some winter cabbage......About time to get them planted esp with the cooler weather moving in ... Also hope to get that lasagna bed started.. Dont know why I keep putting it off.. Does the lasagna bed need to be covered if im not going to use it this winter?

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

My gosh I think I am behind again. Your all surprised right? Hummingbirds Skell??? Mine are getting ready to leave:(
The rose Saga.....
The clippings were done in the early spring but now when they are going to sleep is fine also. Put whatever compound you like Flower into the baggie....Cut the rose branch doesnt seem to matter where in my experience. Swish her around in a little peroxide or bleach water whichever you prefer, then dip in rooting hormone if you have it. Close the baggie all but the last inch or so no direct heat. Wait until yo9u see roots. If you do it inside you will have to water of course. If you do the jar method you just stick it in the gound after the three steps, put the jar over it and when it fills the jar take the jar off. No need to water maybe some root helper mycro something as soon as I find the name of it Ill show you. But you wont need that for a bit the roots take their time. Seray , Skell , KT2 you all know who you are down there in the heat of the equator plant them in a cooler area of your yard. Did you see the pictures ?

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

I really want some of this http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/138343/

Wow, arejay! You do such an awesome job! Yep, a hummer! I was afraid that I would miss them this year and not see any b4 they left! Gotta try that jar method. You are so smart! Thanks for the education, again!

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Thanks arejay Am going to try a few of them . DH is wanting to have a miniture garden of them and I have a couple that I am going to give it a shot on and see what happens.
One question tho if I try the jar method can I leave it over winter if it hasn't rooted by chance in the ground? I mean leave the jar on it?

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

are you packing to send out or take to MOM?

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

I love my hummers I miss them when they go. I have wanted for so long to be in Arizona when they migrate....one day...move over KT2 Im on the way... Don't move over too fast it will be a bit but Ill be there eventually...Sedona I love Sedona... Do you go KT? Thank You Skell I try, but be careful Ill lose track and you'll have to remind me and lead me back to where you want me to go to get the information and on and on...just dont give up. I catch up.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Good morning e1, beautiful day here.. going to get all my packing done and head to the post office this morning. Have to go do a couple of quick chores outside first. When I get back, I am going to plant some rain lily and rose campion seeds. Also going to transplant a few things out of pots in the ground. I am thinking of going to walmart and getting some of those coconut planters and hooks to put across my porch. my DH would tell me not to do it if he were here, lol.. I love this gardening so much, I wish the weather would stay this beautiful all year. Almost enough to make me not want to go back to school, lol.. Have a great day Ladies! M

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Seray the comfry looks like this now. But, It was like barely 6 inches tall in May. I will have to trim it back to send it to you. It would never arrive well like this. It will grow fast.....

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

You a hoot Mechelle....So by the way should I put some recently picked blueberries and some of the frozen blueberries in the box to keep them cold and how should I pack fresh blue berries? Any ideas? Yes I told youall I was behind...I'm working packing packing....

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

hello...come back where are you all???

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Hiya everyone!

Robin - come on over anytime! Sedona is lovely anytime of year. We own property in Rimrock, which is just outside Sedona near Camp Verde. We plan to build on that land and live there someday, out of the city. How soon someday will be I haven't a clue, but it is soooooooo beautiful up there.

Middleton, TN(Zone 7a)

Im back for a few.. geez I don't know about the blueberries. Anyone have any suggestions? You know those things you put in your ice chest to keep your food cold? Maybe one of those might help. I don't have one, but I can look for one at the store if you think thats a good idea. Or maybe if you have a couple of water bottles, you could fill them part way and freeze them.. Might make it heavy and more expensive to ship.. I dunno

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9a)

Dry ice maybe, but I don't think I would put it with plants. Blueberries yes, plants no.

Litchfield, ME(Zone 5a)

Thats why I thought maybe put a bag of the ones I froze in also. To keep the fresh ones cold. You wanted blueberries for him Right Mechelle not blueberry plants?
