Is it just me - or is winter coming early?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

i'm not ready for this at ALL!!! I still have plants outside I'm trying to figure out where to stuff in the house...heck I still have some to pot up!

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

weather is for the dogs. I have no idea what is going on. I have started early to get my tender "stuff" in the house. That includes my shivering butt up next to the hot coffee pot. Could not even burn a weiner this weekend. The local football fields are darn near to wet for a good game. One thing for sure.....no one lost any money watering this year.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

true on that...our low for tonight is 36 with patchy frost

NORTH CENTRAL, PA(Zone 5a)

I look for that first frost to slam dunk us real quick. If it keeps raining. That will help. I just do not like the thought of the whole shooting match being hit with an early frost. I left enough stuff out to gamble. However this year I am not making any bets....period.

yeah I gotta have the boys help me drag in 3 big ones here in just a second

LOL my chupacabra just goes for the ones on my feet!

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

OK, I need a foot warmer. They are saying it may get down to 32 degrees here tonight :-(
There go all the flowers if it does!

did you get us plenty of seeds Kassy?

(Zone 5b)

56 degrees here, chilly wind though! Low of 38 tonight, getting closer to frost.

Sorry trina, at the place I took that picture, there was a sign...........no taking any seeds!
So I just took pictures.

This bee is hovering!

speaking of seed gathering....is there an etiquette concerning asking? there are lots of places I see gorgeous flower beds that are setting seed this time of year. If it's a public place, is it ok to harvest a bit as long as one doesn't plow through the entire bed? private gardens are definitely a matter of "ask first".

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

These pictures of the flowers I posted were taken at a wildlife sancturary. Thay had a sign posted not to wonder off the paths, and not taking any of the seeds. I can see there point.....how many people might otherwise?

Well.. I better get my burlap out and The Red Knit Ski Cap (for the top of the balcony fig tree) and keep them ready for The Big Chill, which I hope comes soon. I LOOOVE autumn and winter.i wrap all the plants on the balcony and leave little gaps (away from the wind) so I can stick the snout of the watering can in them and water the plants once or twice a week, thru the winter.

Right now all my maple trees and ginkgo trees on my balcony as well as the Paw Paw trees are beginning to turn colors -- The bronze coleus leaves look spectacular at the base of my fringe trees -- and the squash vine is still gently wrapping itself here and there with little blossoms (I THINK they are setting fruits finally....) peeking their yellow faces at me -- it is so beautiful!!

Since my balcony is thoroughly and very safely (over 8 ft high, with, total overlap on the bottom) cat-proof-fenced in, my kitties can go out and enjoy the splendor (I also have a baffle at the top to keep out hawks or eagles, both of which are in my area). Big Bad Baby Twinkle meow-meows at me to come and enjoy "her" balcony, with her. Sweet Cee Cee will not go out there unless I am with her at all times. There's even a little hut out there for them to temporarily take shelter in (I supervise them at all times) if it's snowing, or raining - as the picture shows, BBBT LOVES the snow-- the (doubled, at the base of balcony) fencing (chicken wire, 1" opening, secured to the balcony fence and the 8 lattice sections throughout the balcony) is not visible in this photo but it IS there.

Wow,
I have a cat that hates snow. Wants to get out in the summer, but never sets a foot towards the door, other then to smell the air coming in during the winter. He will not step foot in it snow.
And in this area, I think we are skipping fall and are going right to winter!!!

Hard to fathom Fall when you wake up to 80 degree weather with a heat index of 87.....in October. I don't want really cold weather (arthritis) but some temps in the 60's and 70's would be nice. Neighbors are reroofing house...got a crew working out there, but also have 3 relief guys on the ground so when the heat gets to them they can swap places....supposed to have showers everyday this week....guess that's why the roofers were up there at daylight.

Explain to me again about global warming....grin

Hey Kassy, at least the car heater works....grin

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

I sure hope it does Jean.........LOL
off to a meeting for work now
