Ronna,
Keep us posted on your dog.
Let's see your pets!
The blood platletts are getting some better but the white and red cell counts are way off. At first they were thinking it was rat poisoning but they have ruled that out. Now it could be cancer or a immune problem. Sorry my head is swimming. I really do not understand all of this but I know it is not good and we do not have the hundreds and hundreds of dollars to spend on him. He will have to be on steroids for awhile and some stronger antibiotics they gave me today. He has to go back on thursday for more blood work. They want to send the blood out and have it analyzed at a lab some where. But wow is it expensive. Believe me I do not want you to think I do not care but the money is always an issue. Understand what I am saying? We will keep on taking him and monitoring him of course. I am worried. We love him like one of the kids. Ronna
I am so sorry. Trust me when I say that money sometimes has to be an issue. I'm sure that anyone who loves their pets knows how difficult this whole situation must be for you.
So sorry! (((Hugs)))
You can't beat yourself up over a lack of funds
to pay for expensive vet work.
Hoping & praying for the best.
Our beloved 12 yr. old Chihuahua Haley has conjestive heart failure.
She's been on meds for 2 yrs. and doing okay but its
progressively been getting worse.
We may have to put her down this fall.
I burst into tears just thinking about it.
I can't bear the thought..so I feel your pain.
Yes, having a sick baby is the worst....thank God our vet lets us make payments...we do post dated checks....our vet bill was over $3.000.00...and with 7 dogs....between shots worming and flee/tick meds.. it adds up so very quick....but remember if the time comes to see the big grassy hills in the sky..God will love them as much if not more then we could ever love them....
prayers are with you and your baby..
Love the jackrat!!! Very cute.
Awwwww. Cute! Gotta love 'em all!
Ronna, how is your dog doing?
Well I got some grim news today. They have been treating him for a immune deases and underlying infection. But now they are almost sure it is either bone or marrow cancer. We are just sick about it. We will keep him comfortable as long as we can but everything is so expensive. His red blood cells are not regenerating new ones. His plattlets are very low even with the prednazone he is on. The vet waited while I went to the office so I could get him som pain medicine. Nice of her. She wants him to be comfortable. As do we. Now we just have to wait and see. He is failing more every day. He hurts when we walks upstairs. I can not take him for walks. Which I really miss now. He is a great walker. A great all around dog. Sorry for the bummer news. Especially for us. Thanks for your concern and prayers. Ronna
(((((((((((((Ronna)))))))))))) I'm so sorry about the diagnosis for your dog. I hope the pain medication allows you more time with him.
Ronna so sorry I kind of know the feelings your having I had to have my beloved B.J. put down at Thanksgiving time it was the hardest thing I'v ever done he had cancer and it was time I still miss him so much (((((((((((big hugs ))))))))
Gloria
So sorry. :(
Thanks we have an appointment for the vet monday :( Believe me he will be missed very much! Ronna
I know what you are going through.
We have to put our Chihuahua Haley (one on the left in pic above)
down pretty soon too. :(
I'm so sorry.....Think about your baby....is the quality of life less then a week ago...if your baby is going down hill, hurting and fighting every day.....
this is my reasoning for saying that....my baby's were born with red mange...I had one we named Lucifer because when ever you got around him he would show his teeth because his skin was so crusty and in some spots bleeding....I would hold my breath to love on him because he smelled so bad...but I wasn't going to let him go without love...one day in tears I told my husband I was going to have him put down. We already had a 2,000.00 bill with the baby's but it wasn't the money.....I would have spent another 2000 if it would get him better.....but he hurt sooo very bad and I wasn't going to let him hurt anymore!! anywho...I took him to the vet, which the vet knew how I feel about my baby's and said...lets try doubling up his Ivermectin..(sp) he said it would cure him or kill him....I went for it... the little man had NOTHING to loose....my baby's are 6 years old and his name is still Lucifer but we call him pooky!
long story short.. I had to put my feelings aside for him.... what was best for him...
once again...I'm sorry and I'll pray for his recovery..
froghollowlady, yes I would say he has really declined in the last two weeks. He has the hollow look in his eyes. He is on four different prescriptions and nothing is helping. He is falling over when he walks. Having a hard time to climb the stairs. We just know he is in pain and think it is the humane thing to do. Believe me its not just about the money if could we would spent thousands on him cause he is well worth it. but it is bone cancer and that will not heal. I will certainly miss my walking partner so much..... We love him. Ronna
I understand...I do..but its up to us to do whats best...as hard and tearful as it may be...I had to put one of my Great Dane down last year...after being about 12 years old...he was in heart failure...I had the vet come to the house...he was to big and I didn't want him to go someplace else to pass....but my man was babied everyday till the end.. I felt O.K. with his passing because he lived a grand life....yes I cried.. man did I cry, but it was his time..
As I said my prayers are with you and yours....
If I may.. when he passes go get another baby with in 24 hours....NO not to replace your baby but to fill a void....we did..this was told to us so we went and got another baby....It helped sooo much....
I am trying to breed American Singer canaries. So far, I have put together, 2 males, no babies.
Then I did two females, again, no babies. So this is two mating seasons down the drain.
I need an instruction book, or my birds need to wear name tags. LOLOL.
If anyone wants to know, American Singers (look em up online) are fabulous singers. If you
can't talk on the telephone while your canary is singing, then they are too loud. American
Singers are a softer and more melodic canary, winning all the canary shows they go to for
song and health.
I breed mostly yellow ones with some very pretty darker feathers (variegated) on them. If they
are all yellow or white yellow, they are prone to disease and health issues. I want healthy,
happy singing birds. If I could only figure out who is the bride and who is the groom, I would
be in the money. LOLOLOL. Yeah, right.
Sher
Sher,
That mastif is as big as your husband! The pugs are really cute. Who would have thought of a bob for hot dog game? I'm pretty sure you have to have birds sexed by an avian vet. You could try putting them all together and see if the boys find the girls. :)
Brenda
Nice looking chicken yard Sheri!!! Love the photo of the sleeping husband and dogs.... We just had to have our love put down. He had bone or bone marrow cancer. So sick he was. Wow it is to bad that mastifs are SO large! Would love one for sure. But it would take up our whole living room... LOL. That was my thought also Loon about the birds that was. Ronna
sheri, i think you need to breed naragansett turkeys and some pea fowl!! ^_^
Birdie

Well we went to a adoption event on sept. 26th. It was with the SPCA.We got a new dog. Her name is Gracie we are really liking having her around!!! She is a Plott hound mix. I know we never heard of them either! They originated from North Carolina the Plott family breed them for there family exclusively in the late 1700's. Mix of a bloodhound and a curs. She has the hound howl. And the nose to the ground at all times.. We are pretty happy with her. She has a hip surgery and still doesn't use the back leg all the time. But I will walk her a nd build up the muscle she is a very loving girl. She really does not like the cats that are in the house. That really could be a problem. Pepper is 16 and she wants the dog to leave him alone. Oreo is just hiding all the time and growling. Have been trying the submissive position and making Gace be very still. She is 1 and a half. I will keep truing believe me. Ronna

Please take comfort in knowing that Max has crossed over to the Rainbow Bridge and is now without pain.......My beloved Blaze and Kelly met him as he crossed and introduced him to all the other fur babies who are there.....
Be patient....they are new to each other, and will soon begin to realize that they must all live in harmony......It may take a few months...but hang in there...
Just wanted to say, Bless you Ronna for rescuing Gracie....to me rescue dogs are the way to go.......
Deann
good luck with your new Plotthound! Keep trying with the kitty doodles.
sheri
My German Shephard, Alex, passed away this spring at the age of 17 as well. Cloie and Alex were raised together and were both such perfect pets! My family misses them.
I know flowergirl! We miss Max ever so much also. But are very excited about our new girl Gracie... Pepper our loder cat can now be in the same room with her!!!! I am so excited about this. Believe me if Gracie gets to close Pepper lets her know! Oreo is still under the bed. But I let Gracie sniff her all over yesterday. So I believe we are making some strides.... This thread has been a blessing all of you are so understanding. I know almost everyone here has had a sick pet. Also new pets and it has been fun chatting with you all. Ronna
gardenlady123
she is soooo pretty!...its always exciting to learn their little corks....
After we got our new Great Danes, son and mother....I came in the living room and Rommie was sucking on a throw pillow he took from the chair....I started crying so hard.. you see, that's what Roscoe did.. the one that had heart failure... Rommie even kneads the pillow, you can see his big foot ''grip'' it....
I'll try to find a pick of Rommie but this Roscoe...my old man...
AAAWWW Frogghollowlady so cute how old? A friend I work with had two Danes and they both got sick with cancer also. What is going on with all our sweet pets? Weel at least all of them are healthy right now and we can love them!!!! Ronna
lets see he was about 11-12....very old for a large dog...he had his own couch and the foot of the bed..''on the bed''..lol
he was my old man!!!
miss him a lot....
Jody
Wow that old for a large dog. I bet you really enjoyed him. The foot of the bed??? Yeah I bet more like the whole bed!!!! I am sure he is missed. Ronna
Our new dog is doing so great. The cats are doing so much better also. We could not be happier.... Ronna
garden ladey I am so happy to hear the plotthound is fitting in.
Sheri
In the summer of 2008 my dog, Shadow was diagnosed with cancer. We got another year together and in July, 2009, she crossed the Rainbow Bridge. I am going through canine withdrawal symtoms and miss having a dog at home. When I added it up it had been 28 years since I was without a dog.
All of my dogs have been rescue dogs, but Shadow turned out to be a Flat-Coated Retriever, which I had never heard of, but when I did research I knew they were right. The laid-back temperament, likes othe dogs, cats, people, real lover of everything and everybody and yet fun loving dog. I decided I wanted another one but after 3 months of looking for a rescue dog and not finding one I gave up. Now, for the first time I am talking to breeders about a pure breed dog and a puppy at that. It has been generations since I had a puppy. My friends and family think I am crazy but this just feels like the right thing.
I am looking at puppies from two litters and will have to travel out of state to get either of them but they will be available in late Oct or early Nov. I can't wait and am anxious to have a dog in the house again.
Good luck to all of you who have found your best friend, be it cat, dog, bird or other animal. They all give more to us than we evry give to them.
