I will try to get a better picture tommorrow it was overcast today and had the flash going.. the purple one is really purple, and the pale pink one is really pale almost white pink. these others were a cross of lavender and pink..
here is the south east wing garden.. (front)
My morning glory Adventures End of August time
Beautiful scenery in your garden! And some great photos, Debra! I am enjoying your garden. :-)
I hear a thunder storm moving in. Off to bed ...
Deb.. your pics are gorgeous... WELCOME home and look at all your pretties. It's always good to get home.. Next (this coming) wkend is great.. we will have autumn adventures.
they are all so pretty. . I can't seem to get mine to grow, tho . .
Debra, that is funny, as the first thing both my DH and I do is check the MG's everyday when we go out to send him off to work in the early morn too! Gotta see what new glories are there and what new colors. And they are still blooming there little heads off here too. :-)
Lovely flowers for you this season Debra. I missed your
beautiful Morning Glory curtains like you grew last yr. Did you
grow one this yr?
Question for you MG growers. ;.will the MG climb (stick) to a stucco wall?? I have a 1/2 wall that we made to hide the trash cans. . it's just a bland wall that blends with the house..(what we wanted) but I'd like to put a lil trellis by it for MG's.. but don't want them to stick to the wall.
Debra, do you have pix of your curtains? I missed that, and would love to see them. What a great idea!
Dirtygirl71 - I have not grown any MGs that have "stuck" to the fence, a wall, or any other surface. I usually have to weave them through a trellis to get them to stay up. And on my picket fence, I use those velcro strips to secure them as they grow. They will climb, but not grow into any surface permanently. :-) You will need a trellis for them to grow on and twine up to the top of your half wall. :-) And they should cover that half-wall very beautifully! Be sure to post a photo when you do that! I wanna see how it turns out! :-)
My protocol in the mornings ... let the dog out to do her business, add seed to the bird and squirrel feeders, and then check the MG vines for new blooms! Then I go back in and get my small artist paint brush to return to the MGs to hand-pollinate them! And if I have time, I will take a few photos. That's the start of my day! And you know what? It gets me in a good mood for work. :-)
If they won't stick to the stucco, I'm thinking of putting small posts INTO the side of the wall, then use twine as an invisible trellis.
When I get it going, I'll post pic's...THANKS
You could just add a trellis to posts in the ground right next to the wall without damaging the wall. The vine foliage should grow thick enough to hide it all! Just a thought. Sounds like it's going to look great!
the 1/2 wall is about 10 ft long. . 4 ft. tall....
I use the white vinyl trellis panels that you can cut with a saw. They usually come in 4' x 6' sections if I am not mistaken. You just screw the panel piece into the posts to mount it.
that's a good idea. .. thanks, beckygardener
heres my crazy idea from last year, it worked OK too, get a CHEAP but sturdy used baby crib from Goodwill. Unhook the Corners and fashion into trellis as desired. this shows how it can but used vertical or horizontal, or even diagonal if you want to have fun and get the plants to vine a direction....Beckys seeds....thanks!
:D
funny you should say that fern.. I've been looking for awhile for an old spindle headboard/footboard ((always checking craigslist)) for use as a trellis.
Darren - Very nice set-up you got there for those vines! Looks great!! Looks like Blue Asago Willow vines, perhaps?
An idea that I want to do ... is use a headboard and a footboard to make a bench. The headboard would be the back of the bench and I would cut the footboard in half to make the arms. Then would have to build the seat part and use a good sealer on all of it! I need benches in my yard! LOL!
Dirtygirl - If you get that spindle bed, be sure to post some photos, too! I want to see how it looks.
I had a brass bed frame years ago ... I keep thinking that I wished I had kept it! It would look dynamite as a support for vines in the garden bed! :-)
been looking for ages for that spindle bed. . am not willing to pay an arm and a let for something that is going to be out in the elements!
I saved the end of my old picnic table and used it out back for a trellis.. oh yes, I am up all night.. been bringing in the plants..
Debra, I've started on mine too as temps getting so cool here.
48 expected for the low here tonight. Not ready for this as I usually have
till the 2nd or 3rd week in Oct before I have to bring them in.
Wish I had your nice basement instead of a g house. Would save me
lots of steps and big savings on energy bill.
I can't believe how many of you are getting such cold temps already! I, personally, am ready for some cooler temps. It is still very hot here. Though I heard on the weather report something about a cool front might move in for a day or two. Of course, that means temps in the low 80s, instead of mid to high 80's. But I have noticed that the mornings are a little cooler. But ... I had to water everything today because it has been very dry and hot. So ... not much of a change here. I need to get some of my starts repotted and placed along my window shelves. I couldn't get to it this past weekend because I got really busy. Which drives me nuts! I had my mind all made up to do it, too!
I think the bobcat is hanging around my yard. I smelled very strong cat urine along my back fence in one area. Not like domestic cat smell, but wild cat. It's probably eating the rats. I sure hope so! I need to pick up a live trap soon.
I hope y'all get your plants into sheltered areas before you get a freeze. I am not looking forward to moving a bunch of my plants either. I am hoping I have a mild winter. LOL!
well autumn is deffinately setting in here... not that you can tell in the UK... we have the same weather all year it's just gets colder in the winter and warmer in the summer...LOL ... i watched Top Gear last night and they where test driving convertables... why?
Nice LYK against the babycrib Darren :-)
just love the colour on your bloom DG71
Hi Colin, Man I wish I could watch top gear! BBC wont let us grrrrr. Penalty of living in a foreign land I guess.
Man I miss British TV, can you believe that? Autumn here, well little difference from summer, same old hot and
humid! Love all the pics here, waiting for mine to flower.
Colin where are you in the UK, has to be the west? I'm from N Devon.
Jon
hi Jon i'm from the Midlands, and stop teasing you know hot and humid is much better than "sunny periods" when your in England and you deffinately wouldn't swap it for Top Gear i'm sure.... :-))) ...it's been nice all day today though and most of the week... :-s
Actualy Colin, wild horses could not drive me back to the UK, or even Jeremy Clarkson!
To make you feel a little better, our seasonal rain has just arrived, it's cool cloudy and wet now, a welcome
break from summer heat! Hope the weather stays good for you.
Jon
i think we have Becky.... :-s i feel naughty now... :-) Jeremey Clarkson presents Top Gear which is a popular TV show here... it's about cars... BTW love the bench... nice idea :-))
Jon i knew you wouldn't swap :-) i certainly wouldn't... and i saw your rainy weather just this morning... i was watching Hamilton's Grand Prix practice runs at Sakuza on the news :-))))
Hi u guys..... I have a bunch of pics to share of the new growouts, then went to RU, and just moved all my plants ( well most of them) into the basement greenhouse.. it looks fantastic .. I have a pond, two water tubs and a vine corner with starts of most of my vines from outside growing now..
Darren - Oh! Please do share the photos! I see my hummer every day at dusk hitting the blooms for one last meal before birdie bedtime! :-)
My hummers have flown the coup... take care of them for me when they get there, will ya?
Sure thing, Debra! :-)
