Garden Photo's 09 - # 41

Thomaston, CT

Lovely shots, Jo Ann----and you're right about the bugs---have seen some totally new ones----I noticed lots of yellow jackets on the fallen apples yesterday---they get drunk, mean, & chase anything!

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Pretty foliage pics JoAnn. Nice deep colors for the cooler season.

Bill good info on your caryopteris types. So if I read you correctly, the best one you got by mistake? I love when that happens. Looks like 'Summer Sorbet' is the one to get now. Thanks.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

My Sweet Autumn clem. I love it! It's the best luck I've had with a clem. (pic was hard to take with the sun shining on the view screen) DH likes it on the arbor too.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Looks like a couple of mine. I like where you planted it.

Huron, OH(Zone 5b)

There's more along the side of the house, around the corner.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I am soooooo enjoying your pics everyone! I'd forgotton how much I enjoy the autumn garden. Onewish--your spider gave me the willies! I think he will be the star of my next nightmare! eevie--your pics are more spectacular than ever! Everyone, your plants and gardens are just beautiful! I'm there in spirit.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

jumper that's a baby sweet autumn - next year that arbor will not be seen - you will love it!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Ahh! You got one of those too? [cosmos] I've got 3 tall ones @ 6' and still going!

This guy is part of my garden... he eats the Elderberries and recycles them!

These are slowing down but still managing to put a few buds out...

WC... I am amazed it's that tall.. never seen anything like it.. pretty yellow bloom!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That's so weird, Allison! Great spidey shot.

Nice bird pic, WC!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Mockingbird, hope he doesn't "recycle" onto your car.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

LOL.. it is a neat shot

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I've got the spidey willies!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Nahh... the car's off limits to him, the Robins have that territory, they browse the gutter of my garage for insects and dump all the gutter stuff on my car! Ohh well, they do have a pretty song...

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Watercan ! Dont cha just luv coreopsis?
We have terrible soil here yet they just go like gangbusters and seed heads feed the goldfinches.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Coreopsis are very nice, they flop over when they get big (~ 1½' ), but they're great at filling up a spot that you want to keep looking 'natural' in full sun!

Thomaston, CT

Saucy looking mocker! Haven't seen any around here lately---goldfinches are going crazy, however. I also have a 6' cosmos, but no bloom on it yet.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Nice dragonfly, Victor.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

nice dragon fly pic - surprised you did not get him eating a mosquito with your luck:)

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Wow! Those dragonflies are good! 'Straight on' looks like he has a BAD attitude! (lol)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, guys. Wish he would have eaten some skeeters - I have five huge welts from bites from yesterday.

He did not seem jumpy like many. Stayed perched a long time.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

nice DF Victor!!!... gotta find that weed they showed us at well sweep to burn, squish and put the oil on the bites.. it really does work.. can't remember the name.. maybe Jen or Weeze will... but it's a broad leaf that grows in the grass

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, Allison. Does the plant oil really work? Many supposed treatments just don't. I have had moderate success with Orajel, if applied pretty soon after getting bitten.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yes... if you get it on quick enough sometimes they don't itch ever again.... once in a while I will scratch up an old one and put that stuff on.. it really helps.. I will go out and take a picture of it for you... they are all over my lawn.. time for you to buy a lighter and keep it in your pocket... just wilt the leaf... squish it up until the oil comes out and and rub it on... I kept getting bit up while taking pics of the hummers in the yard the one day... put that stuff on.. never came back... only once in a while I have to use something on them a few days later

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love google don't even have to go out
