help it's all so depressing!!
Old photos part 2
The other thing that makes it hard to deteremine how "normal" thyroid dysfunction is that never in our history have we lived so long. Somethings just can't keep up because they're not designed to -- like knees . . . Wow, onewish, you've been through a lot. I can't imagine.
How 'bout this to brighten up your day (and even make you dance, maybe), boojum? Smiling and laughing and dancing and singing all make more DHEA, which is an immune system booster. The kind that works is the kind you make yourself -- not the kind you take in a pill.
This is probably still my favorite movie. I spent many growing up hours pretending I was Julie Andrews . . .

Happy Friday!

Man, that just kills me . . pretty good. I make a point to watch Funniest Videos every week. Just for my health.
Thanks, Victor. (still laughing)
Okay - off to a Horticultural Society Plant Sale. How crazy is that? -- I already have too many plants, not enough money, and it's Fall. Still I took the day off so I could go to a plant sale.
At least it's a sunny day . . .
A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do!!!!
Funny Victor. What is it about people falling down that cracks us up??? I can never get enough slapstick!
Kathy, great video.
My son loved that one, Victor.
Jada my surgeons convinced the insurance that it was not cosmetic and necessary.. maybe yours can as well... my surgery was covered... worth a shot
Thanks Allison. If I decide to do it, I'll persue that. The lid surgery is covered by my insurance which is what I really need. My pressure is ok.
Katie--great video! Made me smile, and I wasn't smiling before I watched it!
Excellent!!
Jen, my mother's family is from Pottsville, PA. My grandfather owned a shoe repair shop there for 50 years. Here he is in front of the shop in the '30's. Sorry about the glare. The name of the shop is Bilansky's Shoe Repair Shop. It says "Philadelphia" too, but Pottsville isn't near Philly!. My granddad didn't care. He was from Czechoslovakia.
Here's another shot of my grandfather with my grandmother (in the hat), my aunt (you can only see her backside sitting on the steps), my mother (sitting next to my grandfather, facing the camera) and my uncle on Granddad's knee. They were visiting the house of the woman with the apron.
very nice harper!
Yes - very cool!
I love her "clerk purse"
They were very enterprizing.
Harper that's so cool and I LOVE the bike!
Gotta ask my fil if he remembers that shop, of course he will he remembers everything from back then.
Thanks everyone! Wow, look at those shoes Kathy. Jen, that bike was a 1929 Indian. My mom had it for years up until sometime in the '90s, I think, when she gave it to my dad to get fixed and the repairman stole it (basically). That'd be cool if he remembers my granddad's shop. He ran it until 1980, when he died. During the depression, he'd fix shoes for free and invite people into the house for dinner.
You mean a 1929 Native American! ^_^
You're kidding, right? The bike was an Indian.
What a koinkidink sofonisba! My paternal grandfather was a cobbler which also included making and repairing tack which I guess makes sense in a small rural community. E (my dad) says that one thing all 10 kids had growing up were shoes which was a big thing during the Depression.
I'll second that.
My grandfather wore wood shoes all the time and only leather shoes for best and when he went to school.
He tells the story of walking barefoot on frosty mornings and running into the cow pastures to stand where the cows were laying to warm his feet.
kathy that is a great picture as well! business must have been good with all those shoes they had.
Here's Mama & Papa with all 15 of their children and 1 grandson (standing, far left)My mother was 14 at the time. She's the one with the braids next to Papa.
Mom is the baby. There are only 4 left. Mom, Dorothy, seated next to Mama, Bernice is directly behind her and Frances, behind and to the left of Bernice (white dress with dark belt).
Frances just celebrated her 100th birthday yesterday.
Nancy
Great shots, Nancy! I remember seeing the first one before. God bless Frances. She looks great.
Yeah Nancy. good looking family.
Loved all the pictures. Harper, Is that an NRA poster on your granfather's shop?
great photos everyone... keep em coming!!!
Cool! Where was that, Nancy? I have to get more photos from my mom. My grandfather bootlegged during Prohibition.
Forget the NRA (National Recovery Agency - a New Deal creation) - check out Harper's first pic. Look at the small ghostly image of a foxy girl on the bike!
Sorry - I meant your grandfather, Nancy.
Wow - you have so many pics, Nancy! How great!
I asked my mother about the location.
She's pretty sure it was somewhere in Brooklyn.
Hubby's granddad ran moonshine for Al Capone.
Wonderful, Nancy. Great pics. Love the gin wagon and all those kids! Phew!
Lots of rogues!
