Hello! It was wonderful reading all the information you have. It is extremely nice of you to offer your wisdom! So now, I was wondering if you could PLEASE help me. I am trying to identify a plant. It bloomed late winter early spring with dark pink flowers about 1-2". The stems/branches grow upright. The leaves are staggered and the flowers bloom above each leaf. The new growth (leafs) are a kind of dark burgandy. The smell of the flowers are wonderful. I think the pot the plant came in was named incorrectly. Was told it could be a camellia? Definitely an evergreen. Thank you! I do have a picture with a single branch close up if needed.

Here to say hi and help out
Hi again Tammy, depending on the size of the snake, you can try making a small fence out of fine wire mesh/screen or reeds that is tall enough that it can't climb over. Make sure the snake is out of your garden first. :)
Goldenway, I'm happy to answer specific questions but I'm not sure what you're asking. How big are the gardens, and in what way are you overwhelmed?
August 2003, the copper strips (or copper window screen, if you can find it) work really well. It will deter the slugs and exclude them from an area. Yes, it could cause more of a problem elsewhere, but It also depends on the kinds of plants, because some kinds slugs won't eat.
Sunni, it's hard to say without a picture of the flowers. The foliage does somewhat resemble a camellia, but not quite. The next time it flowers, bring a sample branch into your local nursery or botanical garden and see if you can match it.
WiseOldGnome thanks for the fencing info, unfortunate for the snake he caught the eye of the hawk livimg in the woods close to us , last i saw it, the hawk had it in its talons heading toward its nest. I felt sorry for it a little ,but I love the pair of big hawks that live around me.
Thank you so much for answering my question. Plantfreak helped. I am 99.99% sure it is a Crimson Candle Camellia, or less likely Spring Awakening. Crimson Candle because every description I have read on it states that new foliage is bronze (don't know how I came up with burgandy). Both grow dense and upright with staggered leaves w blooms.I saw one picture that looked exactly like mine except much redder. Other descriptions have it from pink to dark pink to rose pink. Either way I think I will get some of both. Have you ever heard of these?
Hi Sunni, that's really interesting. It's a variety that I haven't heard of before, it looks like a nice addition to your garden. Thanks for sharing that!
