Awake now, wheres the coffee?? Me and AuntB had a wonderful time, I hope I didn't wear her out listening to me jibber jabber.. Moved in Chrissy and Frosty and Monster white last night.. Only three more brugs to go and they will all be inside.. ( sigh)
So glad you had a visit with her! Sounds like you had a wonderful time!
Any growing secrets?
Lucky anyone who gets to visit with any DG friend. Sure wish I could meet everyone of you. Debra, Would love to have been with you and AuntB.
My Brugs all are about too, but sure is taking a long time. So glad I don'[t have to move them into the house. Will just cut them back and wait for them to come back next Spring.
Beautiful pics of the bruggies........can almost smell them!
Faye, Debra, Bonnie, me and alot of other DG'ers all got to meet at the Midwestern RU, altho there were a couple of odd things.....bicycle race that took up the whole park, really cold temps, and windy we had a great time. I vowed I was not bringing home more than I took.......I brought home a lot of plants....way too many, and if you count all the iris, I brought home more than I took.....darn I wasn't going to do that! LOL
Spent Sunday dragging in big pots of brugs, ee's, giant bird of paradise (hope it comes back, it was just covered with scale so I chopped it completely down! I wanted to cry.....but couldn't afford for it to infect everything else! So sad. I still have 2 huge brugs, 2 huge ee's, and a bunch of little ee's to get in the house! Don't know where but somewhere!
Poor Joyce! Scales? whats that? yuk! I too came home with alot of iris, my first time for those things, they are laying where I want them to grow, I hope under a tall fir tree will work.. ( 12 foot up before a branch ) and I really enjoyed my caladiums , they are in pots down in the basement Greenhouse/Nursery.. just went out and cut all the vines I wanted to save cuttings of before the freeze that is coming.. all the brugs are downstairs now except 4 and they are up here..
all have buds and or blooms, hate to cut anything right now, but I know I need too.. chrissy has buds galore, I want to see her blooms before I cut her..
Gee Faye, wish I lived where you live LOL
only five more brugs to dig up and gett in and that will be tommorrow, I have to take the day off YAY! cuz Joe broke the shower behind the wall ( ut ohhh) and the fix it guy will be here..
Oh my...you got Iris! One of my favorites as well as Day Lilies Hibiscus and Brugs. Goodness, I think I have a yard full of Favs. I just know I will run out of yard before I get enough beauties.
I have lots of seeds if anyone wants them, and will have lots of brug cuttings too.
I have to share this. I took an extra pink velvet brug I had to a nursery in June this year. I repotted it into a 5 gallon pot before I took it because I wanted to see what it would do for them there. Everything they grow grows like a week in their greenhouses while everything I have struggles to survive. I visited the brug once in July and it had doubled in size by then to about 2 ft tall. WELL, I went to visit today since all our brugs are blooming or close to it now and I nearly fell over! The one I took is still in the 5 gallon pot.. is about 4 ft tall and spread about 2 1/2 ft.. not a real impressive spread but it has some beautiful blooms but standing right next to it was an 8ft identical STANDARD with BLOOMS!!!! A piece had broken off soon after I took it to them and they rooted it and planted it in a 20 gallon pot! You could have knocked me over with a feather! I am going to try to go by there tomorrow and get a picture.. the ONE day I did not have my camera with me!
oh TAMMIE!!! u gotta get a picture of it! u gotta!
So your saying they need bigger pots? Mine are in 5 gallon pots, guess I need to get bigger ones!
Waiting on that picture please?
I am keeping mine in small and dainty pots until Next Year, now that I know how to grow them LOL
Your Maya is going to explode all over! What pretty pictures. I also go a cutting of Maya from Bonnie, but mine doesn't look like that!
We had our first light frost last night, all the blooming burgs are in the solar room. I did remove the older blooms because I was afraid the sweet smell was going to over power us.....LOL DH has alergies and I didn't want to push it.
Great pics Faye! Going out right now to "sniff".. Your Maya is gorgeous. Almost all of my brugs are going crazy right now. It's gonna be cold next week at night, so I'm making room to get them in. I hate this moving around thing. :)
happgarden, what is different about your Maya?
"I am so glad I do not have to move brugs inside. They are all in the ground and I will cut them back later, and I'm not going to like doing that. They are beautiful and so many y's. Each "Y" has blooms.
When I cut them back, I want to share with anyone who wants them, and I want to be able to send cuttings that will bloom the first year. How do I cut them for this? Do I save the complete "Y" as one cutting? Need help as usual.
Faye
Faye, as far as cuttings I am no help. Seems like I just saw that on the internet or brug forum. I just swapped cuttings with someone and she wanted the old brown wood. I have an easier time with what I call juvenile wood, not green not completely brown. I did read that if the cutting was from a Y it would bloom faster. But like so many things I can't remember where! UGH!
Faye, your Maya has blooms and mine doesn't, is the difference..... LOL Mine has pretty leaves just no buds......
I am not good at fertlizing and this summer it rained so much I don't think I watered one time, infact was afraid to water up until Sept. ( I fertilized then) I know you are suppose to have drainage in the pots, but since I bring them in they would leak water all over the solar room floor (the room does have a drain, but it still makes a mess). So I guess I have done pretty well cause I haven't drowned any of them.....famous last words.
You are so lucky to be in a warmer zone. I am better now I can keep my plants around and blooming, but it is a pain second guessing the weather.
I would have trouble over watering too. I have to have the drain holes in any inside pot. I'm leaving early in the morning and I'm afraid I will miss most of my blooms....I will be coming back home late Monday. My younger Sister, Ray and I are going to
Pennsylvania. Wish some DG friend could meet me there....what a dream come true that would be.
I had a great experience like that one time. A dg'er that lived in Dallas contacted me to meet for lunch. She was coming up here to see her daughter who was in college. It was great and we had a wonderful lunch.
Hope your buds wait for you to get home.....that would be sad, have a great trip tho, sounds like fun.
Linda Kay, what a great pic, I am guessing that is you? You look proud and you should be.
Those brugs have beautiful leaves and so many blooms on that one. That is a great raised bed. Looks wonderful to work in.....
I received some stick brugs last night more to plant......I am crazy, I got pink perfection and tiara both are doubles and something else I can't remember the name.....hidden ginger, oh just too forgetful.
Thanks for the comments, yep that is me, bum knee and all! I am waiting anxiously to see if any of these are double!, but if not, I will still be happy with the single blooms.
Awww, what a beautiful garden you have there.. they look really really happy! I love it!
Those are so gorgeous LK!
Faye, your brugs are beautiful. What a lovely yard & home. Never get tired of seeing pictures of them.
Beautiful!!!!!! What a gorgeous display of brug love : )
Faye, those are beautiful, wow, you should be so proud. They look like a line of can can girls....all ruffley and beautiful.
I am traveling for work and it has been the best trip. I met up with Joeswife and have had the best evening. It is so nice to have someone to talk to about plants. Someone who enjoys them as much as I do. Tropicman had invited me and JoesWife over to see his greenhouse and all the tropical plants! It was an amazing place. Him and his wife were so gracious and so very kind. A truely wonderful piece of the tropics in the middle of Kansas! So very knowledgeable and such an amazing grower....
Faye, those plants are gorgeous! Save me a cutting of the double pink please? Well, anything with double blooms?
Sounds like you had a great time, visiting with debra, and tropicman! Any pictures you have to share?
Hope you all have great day!
