Terns nesting in the meadows in July. Either Forster or Common Terns.

Poor adolescent birds, in their awkward phase. Their voice doesn't sound quite right, their feathers are changing, and they're asserting their independence (or in this case, parents are saying "you're on your own!"). Don't worry guys, you'll be ok; it's just a phase.

:D

Burn, That Warbler on the hosta leaf is so cute!

I love it too. Here's a Mockingbird actually eating the berries on the Palm tree.

Great Photo's Everyone!! evie_beevie I think your first 2 pics are of young Orchard Orioles no clue on the 2 in the other pic.

PERTH, Australia

Beautiful shots, everyone. One of these light years I'll start a thread on the Ospreys at the river, but in the meantime here's a shot of Big Hook from the lower path this afternoon.

I read through all the links that Methodical posted last week. Good stuff. Since then I've been taking every opportunity to take inflight shots of birds. Here a a couple from this afternoon. Laughing Dove

GREAT photos everyone, this winter we are going to go watch the bald Eagles, about an hr from here.something to look forward to during the dreary winter :)

Norman, OK

We are in Pagosa Springs, CO for a week. Have seen quite a few birds, but not many pics. It's big country out here and unless you want to invest a lot of time and effort, decent pics are hard to come by. Saw a pair of Golden Eagles yesterday. Going down to where the Piedra River flows into Navajo Lake today to see if any water birds are there.

A pair of Trumpeter Swans on a lake in west Pagosa.

Yikes, this thread has moved fast!! From waay up, working down . . .

Quoting:
Blue Jay. Not sure what kind, to be honest. I'm guessing Western.

Western Scrub Jay
Quoting:
I've seen this lady(?) around a few times, but she's quite shy and never stays long when I'm around. I'm surprised I even got this "good" of a picture. Is it a female orchard oriole?

Can't see enough to tell!
Quoting:
Anyone have an idea of what this little guy might be? And this is the best shot...damn little buggers never sit still for very long!

Probably female House Sparrow
Quoting:
Same with these mystery guys. I should find that disappointing picture thread :)

Red-eyed Vireo
Quoting:
Terns nesting in the meadows in July. Either Forster or Common Terns.

Common Terns; note the dark primaries and faint greyish hint (not vivid white) on the breast
Quoting:
Tern

(Perth, Aus) Probably immature Fairy Tern

Santa Fe, NM

Resin, you are good! Thanks for the jay i.d. Reddirtretiree, love those swans! Hope you are enjoying your vacation.

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

That's it, I'm going to Australia!

It was too wet and windy to go to Wallington hall this afternoon so I made do with the garden centre and the local lake.

Here's a Tufted duck and a couple of ducklings.

Thumbnail by kniphofia
Essex Junction, VT(Zone 4a)

Red-eyed Vireo, eh? I'll have to keep an eye out for them again to look for that band through the eye. So cool!

But I'm amazed you can figure that one, but can't figure the focused picture! lol

As always, thank you Resin!

and omg can you get cuter than ducklings?? maybe baby kittens and ducklings with some baby puppies and bunnies thrown in for good measure? :)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

OMG, NO, you can't get any cuter than ducklings. and OOOOO how fuzzy they are.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

This thread begun with a fabulous pix of 'Quality time' spent by Al's fav. cardinals, then the thread ran away with so many wonderful pictures I couldn't possible comment on each one. Wonderful job everyone. Ah, next time I get the opportunity to travel up North, I'll be sure to have camera handy. Pelle those birds in Cape May are on my to-do wish list. :-)

I finally found a Dove, a Mourning Dove that was cooperative with the picture session. lol.

Weeeeee! This beats the Flying Carpet in Ali-baba! Said the Redwinged Blackbird. (caption).

(I received this pix in an email -- photographer unknown).

Melbourne, FL

Is that a real pic? Awesome if it is.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Teresa, I don't know for sure.

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

That is a neat shot Lily. I am sure it is real as I have witnessed the Red-winged Blackbirds doing the same thing. When they are nesting they are extremely protective of their area. We had a no-fly zone all summer and had tons of action every time a Hawk, Owl or Vulture dared to enter their territory.

Sanford, NC(Zone 7a)

I got that same email Lily. A cool pic.

I took this today at Lake Crabtree. It's one like I had trouble trying to figure out last week. An Eastern Phoebe or an Eastern Pewee. I'm so tired now I can't remember?

Thumbnail by 24goingfor5
Sandusky, OH

lol kool pic thx for sharing that Lily_love. 24goingfor5, I,m going to give your bird a shot, but I always get those 2 wrong...
Eastern Phobe? because of the lighter color on throat and breast? lol

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Here's that crested hybrid from the local lake.

PERTH, Australia

Teresa and Knip (and anyone else for that matter), you'd be most welcome in Australia.

Knip, that's some extravagantly coiffed duck you have there.

Northumberland, United Kingdom(Zone 9a)

Ditto to Eastern Phobe for 24's pic

If I saw that duck I think I'd be like the old staff sergeant with the unkempt new recruit, and yell "Haircut!!" ;-)

Resin

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

Rose, lol if indeed the redwinged blackbirds are that fearless. It would be a sight to witness! Like those little birds I've seen on Margaret's "Aussie" thread when the tinsy pesky little birds antagonized the great magnificient Ospreys.

A Great Blue Heron by our area early this AM:

Lily, that is fantastic!! What wonderful composition. Look at those clouds. The whole thing looks like a painting.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

I'm glad you've enjoyed the pix, Margaret. Right beneath the pole where the GBH sat, were these two Pekin ducks. I believe the ducks were there first before the Heron joined in the Diner table. lol.

Never seen a heron playing king of the hill before.

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

The poor Cardinal appears to be on guard of his environment. Nan, cute Blue Bird and the Robin.
Here is a distance shot at Lord 'Bama up high on the nest this morning as well:

IrisMA, the blue Heron seems to be pretty tame. They allow boat traffics as well as people pretty close to them before they fly off. Where as the Egrets they do keep the distance, I love to watch them in motion.

Norman, OK

I'm seeing lots of these fellows around Pagosa, but difficult to get close. Black-billed Magpie.

A shot of a feeder at Chimney Rock Archeological Site. Evening Grosbeaks and Pine Siskens. Also saw Stellar's Jays, Mountain and Western Bluebirds, a Golden Eagle, Say's Phoebes and lots of hummers.
