Terns nesting in the meadows in July. Either Forster or Common Terns.
Daily Pictures Volume 240
Poor adolescent birds, in their awkward phase. Their voice doesn't sound quite right, their feathers are changing, and they're asserting their independence (or in this case, parents are saying "you're on your own!"). Don't worry guys, you'll be ok; it's just a phase.
:D
Burn, That Warbler on the hosta leaf is so cute!
Great Photo's Everyone!! evie_beevie I think your first 2 pics are of young Orchard Orioles no clue on the 2 in the other pic.
GREAT photos everyone, this winter we are going to go watch the bald Eagles, about an hr from here.something to look forward to during the dreary winter :)
We are in Pagosa Springs, CO for a week. Have seen quite a few birds, but not many pics. It's big country out here and unless you want to invest a lot of time and effort, decent pics are hard to come by. Saw a pair of Golden Eagles yesterday. Going down to where the Piedra River flows into Navajo Lake today to see if any water birds are there.
A pair of Trumpeter Swans on a lake in west Pagosa.
Yikes, this thread has moved fast!! From waay up, working down . . .
Blue Jay. Not sure what kind, to be honest. I'm guessing Western.
Western Scrub Jay
I've seen this lady(?) around a few times, but she's quite shy and never stays long when I'm around. I'm surprised I even got this "good" of a picture. Is it a female orchard oriole?
Can't see enough to tell!
Anyone have an idea of what this little guy might be? And this is the best shot...damn little buggers never sit still for very long!
Probably female House Sparrow
Same with these mystery guys. I should find that disappointing picture thread :)
Red-eyed Vireo
Terns nesting in the meadows in July. Either Forster or Common Terns.
Common Terns; note the dark primaries and faint greyish hint (not vivid white) on the breast
Tern
(Perth, Aus) Probably immature Fairy Tern
Resin
Resin, you are good! Thanks for the jay i.d. Reddirtretiree, love those swans! Hope you are enjoying your vacation.
Red-eyed Vireo, eh? I'll have to keep an eye out for them again to look for that band through the eye. So cool!
But I'm amazed you can figure that one, but can't figure the focused picture! lol
As always, thank you Resin!
and omg can you get cuter than ducklings?? maybe baby kittens and ducklings with some baby puppies and bunnies thrown in for good measure? :)
OMG, NO, you can't get any cuter than ducklings. and OOOOO how fuzzy they are.
This thread begun with a fabulous pix of 'Quality time' spent by Al's fav. cardinals, then the thread ran away with so many wonderful pictures I couldn't possible comment on each one. Wonderful job everyone. Ah, next time I get the opportunity to travel up North, I'll be sure to have camera handy. Pelle those birds in Cape May are on my to-do wish list. :-)
I finally found a Dove, a Mourning Dove that was cooperative with the picture session. lol.
Is that a real pic? Awesome if it is.
Teresa, I don't know for sure.
That is a neat shot Lily. I am sure it is real as I have witnessed the Red-winged Blackbirds doing the same thing. When they are nesting they are extremely protective of their area. We had a no-fly zone all summer and had tons of action every time a Hawk, Owl or Vulture dared to enter their territory.
lol kool pic thx for sharing that Lily_love. 24goingfor5, I,m going to give your bird a shot, but I always get those 2 wrong...
Eastern Phobe? because of the lighter color on throat and breast? lol
Teresa and Knip (and anyone else for that matter), you'd be most welcome in Australia.
Knip, that's some extravagantly coiffed duck you have there.
Ditto to Eastern Phobe for 24's pic
If I saw that duck I think I'd be like the old staff sergeant with the unkempt new recruit, and yell "Haircut!!" ;-)
Resin
Lily, that is fantastic!! What wonderful composition. Look at those clouds. The whole thing looks like a painting.
Never seen a heron playing king of the hill before.
IrisMA, the blue Heron seems to be pretty tame. They allow boat traffics as well as people pretty close to them before they fly off. Where as the Egrets they do keep the distance, I love to watch them in motion.
