That sleep gene is known as Adolescence.
Hey Jean, I think that those asterisks are just the establishment messing with us!
Luping's Basil
Dave, they were not there when I started the thread. Gotta wonder what's going on.
Boy that Nene is intent on getting something. They are so sweet. Today, a bunch of crows were harassing a young hawk. They were chasing him and dive bombing him and he was screaming. Out of nowhere, 4 adult hawks showed up and sent the crows packing. One of the hawks flew right beside the young one and herded it into a tree. That must have been the young one's mom. It was so cool watching the hawks perform their aerial assault on the crows. Afterwards, the hawks spent about a half hour circling and riding thermals and generally playing. Too cool.
Moon, the (*) means members only, been there with that one.
Only memember can post on that.
Hi all! Hope everyone has enjoyed/enjoying this day. It's been another beautiful day here in our part of Virginia.
Jean, speaking of the Exotic Rainforest website......the first time I viewed it, I spent hour's looking at all the picture's and reading all the information they have provided concerning the Araceae's. The Araceae plant's are my favorite of all plant's. The next time we head to Arkansas, I am going to see if I can get in a visit.......I would be in heaven and would especially admire viewing some of their "rare" plant's.
Dave, Your a darlin and a hoot too.
Rachel
Kassy, I am talking about individual messages inside the forum have asterisks in the NEW column. about 8 messages are marked. 4 or 5 of them have posts over 100, a couple over 200.
Rachel, pretty flower. I hear ya. I read the post about the philodendron and did a google and found that site. 35 minutes later I remembered I was in the process of answering a question.....GRIN
Hi Rachel!
What are those trees that you're sitting under. You look good! And not just because of the trees!
The chocolate plant man is also a silver-tongued devil.....grin
Kassy is a subscriber, and was on the Parking Lot; I think she was concerned that other people might not be able to follow the thread.
Folks, seems like there is an Altruist amongst us!
Thank you Dave for answering that. Was talking to BF on messenger, and now have to leave for work.
Nite everyone ^_^
Kassy had a bit of an unpleasant experience as a non-subscriber. She spent time on a forum and posted and read and had a good time. Then when she had a question, she could not start a thread. Contacted admin and was told it was for subs only. The forum was not marked as such until after she questioned admin, then the * showed up.
Thanks Rachel, will post what my son had to say about the closing of the thread, but then maybe I better not.....admin wouldn't like what he said, and he knows forums all to well....
Off for work now.
Have a good night everyone ^_^
What does blushing look like Rachel?
I wish I could grow pome type fruit; it just doesn't get cold enough here.
Tropical Plants folks maintain a large thread by starting a new section every time it begins to get large. Any forum with open access and photo capability can sustain that, including this one!
So. I am sure that everyone will be quite comfortable staying right where we are. Afterall. we have been hanging out here for the past couple months and having quite the happy time. Met some new folks and enjoyed hearing about who they are.....and met kitties and pups and kids, but most importantly, learned about the passion for growing things and the natural world that so many people here share.
What say we just agree to check the posts/views number each time we log in......around a hundred, start Luping's Basil Identified and every will post there.
Discuss......grin
Well Racael you told me you were blond and I guess you really are. I believe she has you beat for looks dave. Wonder if she can play the uke.
Where ever you guys go I'll be around. I'd really hate to get out of the Beginner Threads. That's where I found you guys and we've had a lot of newbe's post with us. I doubt if there has been another thread that has had as many plants identified as the one we've been on. You guys are pretty darn sharp. I'm just along for the ride.
Are those old mine shafts, or natural caves with a little help from people? They are massive.
it's a mine, the oldest mineral mine in the US....Ruggles.
I scored 2 bags of rocks...errr... minerals. Obviously I wasn't in there just grabbing cool looking rocks from the ground, that would be crazy! Even if they would go great with my boulders. I also got 2 big hunks of white quartz, a 20 pounder & a 40 pounder :)
Hmmmm, is Dave around yet? Oh Dave, come out, come out, where ever you are ^_^
I was teasing Lynnie. I can just picture your husband and girls each loaded down with a small boulder as you urge them to hurry......the quartz sounds great. It makes a great accent piece tucked in among the other rocks,
Kassy, Dave is about 5 or 6 hours behind us...he maybe cooking breakfast....grin
LOL he's cooking breakfast and I'm going to be going to bed before long
Just a couple more days and you'll have time to play...sweet dreams, hang in there.
Not going to bed quite yet, don't have to be in until midnight tonight, and want to tell Dave what BF said about him meeting us at the woods.............LOL
Can't wait to hear this one.....
I sent him the picture of Dave and what said........LOL
Well, our Chocolate plant man is pretty special....and he did get a haircut just for the move to a new thread....grin
Well I'm heading off to bed now moon, and not sure how much I will be on tomorrow as I'm going to have to break up my sleep and go meet a new client we have moving in soon. Then come back home and get some sleep before going back into work that night.......sigh
Later ^_^
Good morning folks, I'm back from an emergency. A friend of mine's plumbing system came apart, with the help of a playfully minded dog.
Everything is put back together and functioning again.
PVC plumbing systems are easy to break, but fortunately are easy to fix as well, so that even a botanist can do it!
Out in these country sub-divisions one needs to be self reliant, as calling for professional help can be very expensive, and waiting for help to show up could take could take a lifetime.
Who sent this humidity?? I weeded one bed (a big one) & had to stop 3 times for water. Ugh. Then I stood in the yard staring at the spot I want my rock garden fountain feature to go....I need a FLAT rock. All of these rocks are very round. I'll get a picture of the spot. Right where the chair is. Of course it will be bigger.
good job, Dave! very nice of you too.
Location, location, location.....wouldn't have anything to do with the neighbor's choice of water feature now would it?Grin. Excellent choice, Lynnie....maybe some nice tall shrubs behind it. Grin
Good friend Dave. Folks gotta help each other.
Be thinking 'bout ya. Take care, Kassy.
my plan is to make a path along the side of the house then have it split around the rock feature...the pine trees & mulched area is the start of that, I've been trying to decide which shrubs & trees to put along that property line. I want shade & privacy. I planned on doing that this spring, then got sidelined by a beautiful weeping norway spruce that made me take it home and make a bed around it on the OTHER side of the house! lol
how do colorado spruce do in baking hot sun? that would look nice near the rocks.
Dave I'll get some pics for ya....the kids were fascinated with the mica, I was covered with it afterward.
