Todd, gorgeous coloration on that Lily. Did you purchase it in Canada?
Maxine
It arose as a seedling in BC and was given to our botanical garden. As far as I know, we have the only plants, although we are having it trialed at Estate Perennials in Alberta...I don't know if they have started propagating it or not.
My hubbie and I just got back from vacation in northern Michigan (the beautiful Leelanau County) and we were strolling around and found this fabulous display. Is this lilium auratum platyphyllum, by any chance? If so, I've got to get it and put it in a pot!!!

Donna, those are lovely. Also, I love LOVE Leelanau. Hope you had a relaxing time.
Hey Wicker!
Don't you think that whole area is phenomenal - Petoskey, Omena, Traverse City, Harbor Springs - it's all great. The people, the food, the views. This is our third trip up there. A wonderful slice of the world that is, relatively speaking - unknown, and therefore pretty quiet. Glad you love it too.
Feels very New Englandy to me there. And the beaches are so quiet.
There were hydrangeas and lilies everywhere. And I agree with you about the New England feeling. We spend a lot of time there on vacation, and in New England. They also have the best trained dogs in the world, especially in Petoskey. I made happy acquantance with a Burmese Mountain dog, an English Springer Spaniel and the cutist puppy in the world, a Vizsla. I read that the latter requires a lot of human affection. This darling little creature attracted quite a crowd and had a lick and a nuzzle for everyone.
Donna, it looks very close to (or perhaps is) Lilium platyphyllum (old name Lilium auratum var. platyphyllum). See pics here: http://www.the-genus-lilium.com/platyphyllum.htm
It does not concern me that you photo has less spots than the pics on that site, but couple that with the shape of the flower leaning toward trumpet shape, and the fading to red of the center yellow band, it may be a seedling with some other lily's genes mixed in. Just not sure. I guess I would label it "probably Lilium platyphyllum".
We have a 6 yr old Vizsla, Donna. And she's incredibly affectionate and very calm for a Vizsla, so long as she gets to go hunting a couple times a week, with miles of running at break neck speed. Squirrels will do. And in a pinch, rats. The rest of the time she's a lap dog. We all adore her. Just to keep on subject, one of the very best things about her is that she doesn't eat lilies. Though she's trampled a few that got between her and a squirrel.
Thank goodness you added that mention of lilies! We'd hate to give you a demerit. ;)
Thank you very much, Leftwood. I must get it and put it in a pot, since it's so hard to please.
Oh, Wickerparker, lucky you! I grew up witha German Shepherd who lived very long for the breed - I loved that dog. We got him when I was 6, and I walked him when I was on holidays in college. I felt very lucky. He lived to be 13, beyond the normal life span of 10-12 years. (Moby, he didn't eat lilies either!)
Since I'm a distance runner, and my husband is a 14 marathoner runner (we were in Petoskey for a great triathlon) I find myself drawn to affectionate, athletic dogs who want to run like crazy and then kiss their owners and sleep the rest of the time. Rhodesian Ridgebacks (I have a close friend who lets me spoil one) whippets and now my new favorite, truly, the viszla. We could provide them with the necessary exercise. An RR would be hard, because you have to show them who's boss. So my friend shows them who's boss threw firm but gentle commands, and I provide the love kiss-kiss while I'm there. A viszla looks like the perfect dog for me.
Donna, it sounds like you're a perfect candidate to be adopted by a Vizsla. Dmail me if you're serious; I can recommend a good local breeder. Quitting the dog chat now before Moby gives me another demerit.
good pics of good lilies there Todd
So nice to see another person's season. Very nice lilies you have there!
All three are stunning shots!
They are lovely Todd - please keep them coming!
We'll see how many survive the onslaught of Hurricane Bill which is due to hit my area Sunday evening...I do have several more to open.
It hasn't hit Long Island yet, possibly the ocean side but not inland, so maybe you'll avoid it, too, Todd. Good luck.
You guys please stay safe, ok?
Latest forecast..the eye will pass right over me! Winds to reach 75 mph. Good-bye lilies!
Good luck, Todd. Why not go out and cut the lilies for your home?
They predicted up to 80 MPH winds here - WEIRD for our area - and they were wrong. I hope they are wrong again.
Donna
Well Bill has weakened to a Catergory 1 storm, I think you'll be fine Todd, but good luck!

"It will pass by Nova Scotia and New Foundland tonight Gusty winds and heavy rain will impact portions of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland through tonight. Rain totals of 3 to 5 inches are possible."
I have a question for you experienced lily people. My Rio Negro bloomed for the first time this year and had really odd blooms. Five of the petals of each of the 6 flowers were "normal", the sixth petal was located directly behind one of the other five. I was afraid it might be lily virus so I bannished it from the garden. Did I do the right thing?
DonnaMack and wickerparker..... shhhhhhhhh don't tell everyone about my corner of heaven... traffic is bad enough already :)
