Show off your Garden Decor

I bought a larger peacock panel from them years ago and it's in my sunroom. This picture was taken more than two years ago. Please let me assure you that I've cleaned the deck since then. Also, it was taken in February, when all of the greenery outside is less than green. Just focus on the peacock and ignore the view beyond.

JD's pun, by the way, was a reference to Zuzu cookies, the ones responsible for my nickname. It went right over my head, but he did his best to explain it to me in words of one syllable.

Sooo pretty! I'm excited that they still have one available with a peacock. I've seen a few of your panels in dmail, but what other ones do you have? I'm hoping to find more panels in the future that are actually "of something"... flowers, birds, butterflies... instead of just the random shapes. But, at the prices they were offering, I thought random shapes was a lot better than empty spaces in the fence!

How often do they change the designs they offer?

Edit: LOL!!! I wondered how you got your nickname. Gingersnaps are my favorite...

I used to hand them out to my nieces and nephews so regularly that they confused the name of the cookie with my name when they started talking. One of my nieces actually thought Zuzu was my name until she heard someone use my real name and asked who that was. She was 21 at the time, so we were all amazed (and amused).

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I'm not sure how often they change the designs because I stopped buying stained glass from them years ago. I had noticed that the stained glass section in the print catalog from Home Decorators, which used to take up several pages, has been reduced to a couple of pictures and the information that more stained glass can be found on the Website. The print catalog says nothing about bans on shipping to California, by the way. I might call them tomorrow and demand an explanation.

I'll take some pictures of the other panels I've bought from them tomorrow. You've seen almost all of them, Evey, but I have a really nice round one of lily pads in a pond and one more of flowers, but it's more abstract than the two in the solarium.

OK, I should be packing but just broke down and looked at that link, my favorite is the Haven Medium or round and then the Conservatory Medium and I like the sunflower one too. What great prices!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I like Haven too. That was one of the ones I was ordering when I was rudely interrupted by that shipping information.

Sigh, I better get to bed, I have to get up at 5:45, finish packing and watering. Maybe I can use DH's Blackberry to peek at any other goodies you come up with. Maybe I'll get a chance to do some garden decor hunting on my trip.
Night all and 'see' you in 2 weeks!

Good night, Sue. Have a wonderful time. I hope you find some great finds.

Great stained glass pieces, Evey and Zuzu.

Sue - enjoy!

nice day today

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

When the "garden art" craze started, I went overkill at one point. Granted, it was a little too much, but the funniest thing was when somebody told me, "Your garden is really nice...but what's up with all the "stuff" you have back there ??? It's sort of like Martha Stewart meets the Addams Family".

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Funny!

I had (past tense) a friend who believed that one bench, one stone and one squirrel was all the garden art her home could take. I think she went into shock when she visited here.

Oh, I forgot the deck she has - 3' x 5' with the whiskey barrel that pumps water. That was another of her decorator items! Gross! It could have been lovely out in the garden but that's not where it was.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

She was too lazy to run electric to the garden for the pump.
I'm one to talk.
SIL does all that stuff for me.

Baton Rouge, LA

"It's sort of like Martha Stewart meets the Addams Family."

LOL!!!

I can't criticize anybody's taste that varies from mine. I'm sure all the neighbors think we're insane with some of the oddities in our garden... frogs playing instruments (not just by the pond, but other places too...), Christmas lights around the pool year round, etc. If it has sentimental value, it's likely find a place somewhere in my home or garden, whether others think it looks good or not! =P

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

AMEN !!!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Evey, you do realize that with your comment many boxes could be flying your way with all kinds of oddities. I have a spare altar that plays music if you need it!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

In Latin or English ?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

No words, just music. The candles light up, too!

Tiffin, OH(Zone 6a)

This is an old picture of my herb garden- it is overgrown and in need of a re-do now.

The fountain is having issues too. It needs torn down, flushed out and re- painted and I'm in that August burned out stage where I'm wondering-Is it worth messing with when I will just have to dismantel it for the winter in a month or two anyway!!

I hate moving all the stones then replacing them- I'm trying to think of a way to re-design it so it will be easier to access the pump and reservoir underneath it!

Oh well, who ever said gardening was work free?

Beautiful shade of blue. The stones are neat too, and I love that container that consists of several wedge-shaped components. Really nice for herbs or succulents.

Baton Rouge, LA

Pirl, your word "spare" above intrigues me... Does this mean you have another altar somewhere in your garden already???? =P Soooo, how did you acquire this obviously tasteful and lovely altar in the first place?! I think you should present it to your (past tense) friend. Then she could have an altar and a pump for her baptismal fountain side by side. Yes? ;-)

Mwhit, a better herb garden is my next project to tackle... I want to get the front flower bed finished first. I really like the combination of heights and shapes you have for the containers in your garden. You found some unusual ones (at least compared to what we can find here) for your garden. Thanks for sharing!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

mwhit - it takes fortitude to keep on going in August. I also like the wedge shaped pieces, just as Zuzu does.

You're right, Evey. The altar is one of a kind. Sometimes that's a good thing but this has been in an attic here and a basement in a former house for 47 years. My dad gave it to my mom about 60 years ago. I still recall her rolling her eyes when she opened the box!

Yes, I could give it to the former friend but then she'd feel she has too many "things" in her garden. Love your sense of humor regarding the baptismal font. The person I spoke of wanted to get an arbor for the rear corner (where she wouldn't even see it unless she was outside looking in the corner - doubtful at best) so if we think of that as an appropriate spot for a wedding she could well be on her way to the seven sacraments!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Evey, I just wanted to say if you're redoing your herb garden, maybe consider some of the Westerfield mints. They are so unique, and so far well behaved. Jim Westerfield has bred them to not only taste great, but to look good in the garden. I got mine last year, and this year they have just been beautiful. They come in great flavors, the pear one really tastes like pears. There are only two places licensed to carry them, Richters, and Fragrant Fields. They come in flavors like Pink Candy Pops, Wild Berries, Fruit Sensations, Iced Hazelnut, etc. Pink Candy Pops is especially pretty.

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

Love all the art.
Thanks!

Hillsborough, NC(Zone 7b)

I'll contribute.

These are individual pieces that just slide onto the rebar.
A nice lady in Chapel Hill had them loose in a big bucket on a studio tour.
I won't tell you what I paid because I don't like to brag.

Hanging from an arbor and I thought it would not make it through the winters (but too hard to get down...so I took a chance) So far so good. It goes without saying that it cannot compare to Jasper's rabbit.

I promised Evey pictures of the other panels days ago. Here's the round lily pad one I mentioned.

Here's the more abstract one:

I also have this big square one that I like:

Yep, you did! I didn't see you on at all yesterday. Did you have fun plans that kept you offline?

That's a beauty, Zuzu. I love the explosion of colors in your glasswork. I had hoped to find some with more pinks and greens (and actual flowers in the glass!), but no such luck so far.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

And this one is art glass rather than stained glass, but I like it. That's an iris in the oval section in the middle, in case it doesn't show up well in the photo.

I think my favorite is the abstract one in the middle. I love that one!

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Hi, Evey. I did have something wonderful to do yesterday. It was Thalia's wedding, so I was busy with that most of the day.

How bizarre that your wish for pink and green was followed by my pink and green photo.

I have the type of stained glass you're talking about, with actual flowers, on one of my fences, but the flowers don't hold up. They're dried flowers, naturally, and they tend to disintegrate over the years. I'll take a photo of one of them later to show you.

Here's how the glass panels in the solarium look from outside:

Thumbnail by Zuzu
Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I have a feeling that the abstract one is actually one part of a three-panel fireplace screen.

Here's the one on the other side of the solarium:

Edited to say I'm not insane. You won't see the panel unless you enlarge the picture.

They are all wonderful. The pink with the iris is stunning but they all are.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Beautiful, Zuzu. I guess the round one would be my favorite, but I love them all.

And thanks for a link to that site. Just what I needed, NOT. Is it a division of Home Depot?

Baton Rouge, LA

The first of the panels I ordered the other night should be here any day. They sent me a shipping notice on Friday, but it's FedEx Home Delivery, so there's no guaranteed delivery date... just a general estimate. I can't wait to see them in person! I hope they're as pretty up close. Zuzu, you said it's been a while since you purchased from them, so I hope the quality hasn't gone down.

The solarium pics are great! I hadn't seen that view of your garden yet. And, I love all your picture windows. We have some picture windows in back along the courtyard, but the rest are all small-paned. The stained glass looks so much prettier without all the extra caulk lines behind it! =P

I had forgotten the wedding was yesterday. "Knot Again"... that theme has amused me every time I think of it!
