phoebe - I am still planning on it . . . and starting Thursday, I can get in and really get the AV's I want to show all groomed and repotted. At the AV meeting on Wednesday, there will be a class on trailers . . . and I do have a few semi-mini ones that I think look great!

Nice pix, Jim!

Hi All :)

Thank you Jim for a glimpse of the Field and Stream I sent you , so glad it is growing well for you :) it is a lovely plant , I hope you love the blooms as much as I do , they are blue with an overlay of lavender I guess you would say , and then green over that , kind of hard to put the loveliness into words , kind of like trying to explain the feeling of love , it has to be you feeling it and in this case you seeing it :) so glad it loves you :) I love all your pics , your plant room is your peaceful place I am thinking , as mine is to me :)

Hi Gail ,

I am unwrapping my LLG order , the violets are nice and I hope the streps live , they are small like Kathy's but I will see , I didn't get Pajama Party so I won't be able to send you a leaf , kind of blue tonight , just tired I guess , sleep well all .

viostrep..........I can't believe LLG sent you small streps........they are so hard to figure out. One time I get a good order and my last violet order was a disaster..............remember how many streps I have and will be happy to share.........just ask...................
Nothing is as small as kathy's streps........I am horrified to think that Paul sent these out........I have heard rumors that he is trying to get out of the business so maybe he is dumping the worst of the worst on the public?????????????

We will find a Pajama Party somewhere.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I would be very sorry to hear that! Where did you hear that Gail?

Williston, ND

I have babies of it......

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have heard on many websites I visit about the gesneriads................I think he is tired and worn out.........plus the economy is killing these good vendors............

Hi ,

I just figured that because I got them for half price and maybe they were sold out of a lot of the streps that maybe I just got the smaller left overs , i am not really complaining about the size so much for the price it is just that I have trouble keeping the small guys alive , they will be fine one day and the next they just seem to collapse on me without a viable reason and I haven't had streps long and so don't know the reasons why , they do send nice plants , I think it is just cause it was a good sale and I got in at the end so I am not complaining about the size considering they were half price , I just need to get them to the big size where they are stable for me , I am new with streps and maybe I am making boo boos that I don't realize so wish me luck guys , if I can get them to be big and happy i will gladly share :)

Hugs ,
Connie

gotta tell you all a secret, ive been using worm casting when i repot(anything) streps love it,i put and small asagi in it and whoa
it turned into a good size in no time (had a monster leaf,)and that kagero,a month after i repotted it it was a big plant,i think ive found a good thing to use, even the violets love it,more blooms and better growth, try it , wont be sorry,i just use big pinch , they say it wont burn
but i fill my pot to a level with soil then the worm castings then i giggle it and then put my plant in it,youll love it

Connie, do you think you are keeping them too hot with a dome and the lights on? Jim or someone else speak up..........but I find with my little ones, I keep the domes off when the lights are on and then dome them when the lights are off. (it just gets so hot under the domes under the lights).

Something else might be...........keep them on matting......just damp matting.........I don't let my baby streps dry out like I do my stable big ones..........

Plus.......here is a biggie I hadn't thought of..........streps like to be pot bound especially when they are little things.......they always ship in a 2 1/4" pot or maybe even a 2 1/2" pot...........that is waaaaaaay too big for a small strep to thrive..........

Let me take a couple of pictures and show you how long I leave mine in solo cups or 1" pots before moving them up..................and when I do move up, I just go one size up.........the minute I get streps from a vendor, I pot down in size immediately..............

Here is a strep I grew from leaf and she is just now ready to be moved up from this tiny 1" pot to a 2 1/4" pot..........or less if I can find a smaller pot.........

Good morning, Jim...................smiling at your worm castings...........not in my house (LOL)..........there are so many ways to grow............successfully........

Here is another picture of just the 1" pot..............they thrive on being rootbound...........I also continue to fertilize the whole time the leaf is just sitting in a pot waiting for babies..............

I have a question........this african violet came to me mismarked as Mac's Luxurious Leisure (which I knew the second I saw her, the label was wrong). Does anyone happen to just recognize her. Nothing lost by trying to identify her.

Her blooms are pretty (don't care for the foliage) but take a look and see if anyone, by chance, recognizes her.

We feel lucky to have people like you, Connie who know more than I do............join us!!!!

Jim , are you making your own worm castings , ( not insinuating you give off worm castings :) :) but I mean do you do the bin with soil and paper and vegie waste and nightcrawlers ? or do you buy the castings ........and if so where ? I have wanted to do the do it yourself worm cast compost making but just have so many things filling my time that I just haven't tried it , it is nice of you to let us know what works for you , these kinds of secrets are best when shared so thank you Jim :)

Hugs ,
Connie :)

Thank you for the link Jim , I was wondering how much you bought , 15 pounds or bigger , how much would you say you use with each potting and do you add it again into pots as time goes on , like adding new topsoil ?
