August Photos

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I thought I'd start August off with a question . . . .

This is a strep that I bought as a baby as Franken Tartan Blue . . . doesn't look like Tartan Blue to me at all . . . any ideas what it could be?

I don't know which one it is but it sure is pretty! Is the color more purple as it comes across on my computer?

I googled Franken Strep's and found this list http://www.streptocarpus-info.com/tablefranken.html but I still can't tell ... I'm not good at comparing photo's.

It is hard to tell especially on the first blooms. In any case, she is outstanding looking!!

Here is another picture.........

That is what she is, Lin...pretty!

No--sorry. Wanna do a quick harvest?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Phoebe, what do you mean? Is it the wrong label on the plant?

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Lin - it is definitely on the purple side. It does not look anything like the links everyone provided, so I'm fairly sure it is not Tartan Blue . . . still pretty . . . could be a different Franken . . .

Phoebe - give me 15 minutes, and I will harvest for you.

I know I am ditzy, but I still don't know what 'harvest' for you means.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Sorry Gail--I'm cross posting in 2 forums. Nicole is going to harvest a crop I planted on my farm in Farmtown--I harvested her crops on her farm last night. I have to be at work at 7am tomorrow--so have to get to bed, so when I saw Nicole posting here--it was my quickest way to contact her. If a crop is not harvested when ready, It goes to ruin, and you loose a lot of coin.

Thanks.......how neat............I know about veggie gardens and farming. You are so right about timing being of the essence. I gather this a game on DG..............or maybe the real thing.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

So sorry Gail - rude of me to talk about a different website like that. Sorry everyone.

Gail, what the "harvesting" is in reference to is a virtual farm game on the website called Facebook.

(Zone 1)

^_^ I was wondering too what the harvest talk was about ... figured it was a previous conversation I had missed, LOL so didn't ask! Virtual Farm Game? Ooooh ... I am soooo OLD!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am so ditzy, I thought they were talking about her streptocarpus .................I shouldn't have ask a question......smiling.....I am soooooooo OLD< too

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Forgot my picture of 'Heart of Darkness'. She isn't faring so well as a new plant from David Thompson and I have just one good 2" leaf on her so I think I better just take that one leaf and put her down before I have no leaves at all.

And........she is one of my favorite streps.

All pretty but a big wowser on that Royal Savannah. I have never ordered or grown any of the Savannahs.........will have to try some.

Beautiful pictures, Gail and Bonnie!

Everybody run, don't walk, to the Marketplace! There are Streps and Episcias for sale!! Woohoo!!

Can anybody help me here? I bought this last year and it was supposed to be Jaco's Gem, but obviously, it's not. I am utterly CRUSHED by the way. Then I thought it must be Chigusa, but it's fragrant. Delightfully so! Anybody know who she is?

Update!! This is Strep 'Rose Scentsation' I emailed the seller and traced back through everything. It's a definite ID. Yay!

jaco's Gem is a joke anyway........she is hard to get to bloom........

The one you have could be Chigusa but there are so many out there right now with yellow centers........maybe Jim will come along later.......

LOL about Jaco's Gem. I know you don't like it, and I might not, but I'd sure like to try it. I've bought it once and traded for it twice, and have never have the correct plant sent to me. Maybe I'm just not meant to have Jaco's Gem. *shrug*

Is Chigusa fragrant? This one is definitely fragrant, so that cuts waaaay down on the possibilities of what it could be.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Rain--I have Jaco's Gem, and it just finished blooming it's head off for me--the blooms are long lasting, cos of the green I guess. The plant is too small to split, but it is way overdue for repotting, which I can do today. If you could remind me in a month or so, I could send you a small plant in the fall (via splitting)---but you gotta remind me--I'm old! LOL

Thanks for those pictures, ladies! I think it's a cutie! It seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it plant, but it's one I've wanted to try ever since I first saw it. Thanks for offering me a start of it, phoebesviolets! I'll try to remember to remind you. LOL

Gorgeous Chirita, Sally! The AV is, too, but I love that Chirita. LOL

I figured out my mystery Strep in this picture ( http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6905488 )! I emailed the person I had bought them from and they had made a mistake in tagging some plants. It's nice to know I'm not alone in making mistakes sometimes! LOL I had bought Rose Scentsation and Jaco's Gem. When Jaco's Gem bloomed incorrectly, I thought perhaps I had mixed up the tags when I repotted them, so I swapped the tags. Which means the one above is Rose Scentsation and my Jaco's Gem is actually Bristol's Sixth Scents. So it all worked out! I'm tickled to have B's Sixth Scents because it smells so good. It was just driving me nuts not knowing who is who! LOL

Edited to add this little bit of info about Strep 'Rose Scentsation' http://www.gesneriads.ca/strep%20293.htm Look at the potential! ^_^

Goldleaf sent me a leaf of Naine Argente.........hope she grows up to be as pretty as yours. I have a baby now but she is still growing................

MSU, MS(Zone 8a)

Where are the episcias in the Marketplace? I can't find them?

Pat

They were bought (not by me!) but I believe, the way the ad read, she's probably got more. I'd keep a watch on the marketplace if I were you... ;o)

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I know....you are the second person who has dmailed me, Pat........
When you open the Marketplace you first see 'LIVE PLANTS"............you have to scroll pretty far down to see UNROOTED CUTTINGS.........and they are there......

It is difficult to sell on DG because plants are not grouped by family but by whether they are seeds, live plants, cuttings, etc....................

Remember the search bar on the top of THE MARKETPLACE and you can google the word "episcia' and they will also appear............
thanks

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

only a few were bought and I have marked sold if they were bought but there are more of the same plant...............if I say sold, that means 1 sold with that particular plant and there may be more......it will say................

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh my gosh..............they disappeared and shouldn't have............oh........this is hard.......let me go find the ad and launch it again.............plus other things have been listed by other people............I guess we have to be patient..............let me go see what happened and put them back up there......

MSU, MS(Zone 8a)

Oh, no rush. I just wondered since I searched and I couldn't find it. Usually it turns out it is right in front of me:)

Pat
