Survived the dentist and ended up having 5 taken out - 2 cut out.. pain med is wearing off so im taking a vicodan and going to bed.. Going back on the 18th for more work..

Jaye we are having a huge infestation of grasshoppers too. And Japanese Beetles. They are both chewing holes in everything. The beetles pretty much destroyed all the leaves on my Lord Baltimore hardy hibiscus and have gotten every rose in the last month. The grasshoppers are making mulch out of all the coleus. Oh well. I don't like to spray. I have a big hangup about pesticides. I blame them for all the cancers in my family and the demise of my grandmother. She was big into DDT when I was a child on their farm. I'm just waiting for my turn. Hope your back is better. I made it through the weeding today and if I can move tomorrow I'll be back out there doing the commercial weedings. Beautiful brug! My Frosti Pink has over 50 buds showing right now. I can't imagine what this is going to smell like with most of them blooming at once. And to think I almost cut it off a month ago because the spider mites were so bad.

Hello, Hello, Hello!!!!!

LOL, this is the third forum I've said this. I finally got hooked up to Wildblue sattelite internet and am on my own pc, YIPEEEE!!!!! Mom is playing poker on hers, lol. I have so many pix to post I hope ya' all don't get bored with me.

First off the wedding I went to was very casual, lol. The groom wore swim trunks and a t-shirt with a basball cap. The bride wore white top and skirt, no bouquet. All of the attendents wore shorts and t-shirts. The food was awesome, tri-tip, hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, pasta, veggies. No good looking single men my age, but there was one guy about late 30's "OH MAN!!!" He was so good looking and very married,lol.

Sunday was tree cutting down day, it was kinda fun once we got started. SIL was a little affaid to climb on the ladder as this tree is on a hill. You can see by the pix below. Mom and I spent all day Friday and Monday cleaning up that hill side. I'm going to be planting some wild flowers and thinking of making a fairy villiage there. Showed my DGD the fairies and fairy door and Goober's Fairy Garden and she is excited about doing it. So now I need to fing more stuff for it. I need to make a ditch at the bottom and a retaining wall as the rain water runs off and our yard turns into a swamp. So that is my next project, digging the ditch and filling it with river rocks. Man I don't need to go to Curve's with all the work I have to do around here, lol.

Juanita, cancer is inevitable here as this is tobacco county :( No telling what had been running off the fields for eons.
Sacrificed the hibiscus to JB. Last year, they killed all but 4 of my roses, and the ones that survived are floribundas.
Been using all kinds of eco-friendly concoctions, then resort to Bayer's.. still the grasshoppers are having a party on the brug leaves!! They are not equal opportunity snackers though. They left everything else alone!!!!!!!!
My back has improved some, but I know if I lose 30 pounds, I won't have this problem.. Too much fat on my back!

This evening, will be putting on a long sleeved shirt and long pants. It's fig-picking time.

Cindy, with your artistic talent, your grandaughter will have a beautiful mythical garden.

Sorry your all having bug problems. I don't have grass hoppers or japanese beetles, but I do have meally bugs, but I think I have them under control. I am using the brayer spary, and I have not seen any new ones in a few days now!
Now I just need the heat to let up some, so I can have some blooms! I kow, they will bloom, but not soon enough! LOL
Juanita, sorry about your coleus. Mine are doing fine in the heat, I have lost maybe 4, but not bad out of the 50 I got from you. I just went out yesterday, and pinched them back, and have them in water for rooting. I am going to make a hanging basket out of them. I think that will be pretty?

Question for ya all????? I know that Milkey Spores is for JB, but I thought it was also used to get rid of grubs. We can not buy it in California because we don't have JB, but if it works to get rid of grubs I sure would like to get some. The moles or voles and gophers are tearing up my flower garden so bad because it is always damp and I know there are grubs by the thousands. I can get some stuff called Grub EX but it only lasts for 3 months. I put weed killer paper down then wood chips for a walkway through my garden. There are long mounds where the darn varmits have tunneled through.

Make sure you can have it shipped into CA, it might be banned for whatever reason. CA has banned just about everything that works good, which forces you to hire someone to spray, which allows them to raise prices because it's something that "you have to have" and so on. OK enough of my soapbox already!

We have been making fans, and pinwheels and cleaning the pond and the patio...have been keeping busy....trying to pick up my knitting again....forgotten a lot of what I learned and am having to learn all over again...the weather has cooled down, the high was 82* today and seemed almost chilly at times....

Good Morning!!!! Jaye rest that back of yours, picking Figs is not easy lol!

Arkansas got slammed at 4:30 this morning, my phone dinged that I got a text, only a weather alert would send a text at that time, but the storm radio didn't go off so I thought it was just a heat advisory and started to stay in bed, but every 15 minutes it'll ding so I got up to clear the text, read it and it was a Tornado Warning in Little Rock!! I turned on the TV to see exactly where it was at and where it was headed and if I needed to get dressed to get ready to head to the storm shelter, it was the far East side of Pulaski County (the county that Little Rock is in, but Little Rock is in the dead center of the county) and East and South of that, the storm was headed Due South, good, not good it's happening but good it's not going to hit me. I stayed up to watch it for a little while to make sure it wasn't turning my direction, when it got South of the house, about 30 minutes later) I went back to sleep. Got to work this morning and forgot my thumb drive to post pictures, my cherries, and my cheese I wanted to bring to work ggrrrr

Someone is losing their mind, actually I don't think she's losing her mind because I don't think she's got one anyway. She's saying she worked in retail for 30 years. She has told me numerous times that her first job was retail, she was there 5 years then was hired here. Before she was hired at the retail job she never worked, so I don't know where this 30 years is coming from...

Back in Louisiana, I had a fig tree that grew taller than the old house. It bore the most delicious figs. I had to compete with the birds for the biggest and juiciest.

If you're gonna be eating fresh figs.. make sure they're ripe. Some varieties are brown when ripen, some black and yet there are some that remain green.
You can take cuttings off a mature tree. I had planted one called "Turkey" and it died. Ex gave me some cuttings of the "Mission" last year, and two did well.

Crissy may have found this out... don't eat too much, it has a laxative effect ;)

My sister in France makes the best fig preserves. I didn't pick much yesterday as the mosquitoes were bad. You can also dehydrate figs.

Easy to catch up lately as almost all the sistahs and nieces are in hiding!! But for those few that are here.. I am so happy to read your postings!

I'd never had preserved figs, but have had dried figs. And fig newtons, of course lol.

I guess this means I take Sage for visitation tonight and she will stay over for a third night. We have a good time but I know she misses her dad... he is just in too much pain to deal with her right now...Please keep them in your prayers.

Hi Jaye,yes he had a blast.From the time he got their until we picked him up he was on the water slide.

So see Crissy,men mellow out as they get older and retire.He ever did anything like that for us as we were growing up.Put it this way he paid 185.00 to rent the water slide for 12 hours.
