Sweet Pea royal wedding
Tropical Garden # 47
It was only 30 percent chance today..but we're about to get another round..lots of lightning hitting the ground. That means I won't have to water tomorrow...
One of the Houston Garden Bloggers is giving me variegated Heliconia tomorrow!
Oh wow.. I almost got a plain one.. but I was afraid I would kill it.. it is so hot and windy here.. I have 3 and a half weeks to enjoy all this, and get the tropicals into the basement for the week we are gone.. the rest will be fried when I get home. Can't leave the umbrellas up. No one to water.. *sigh*
the north end of my patio looking south..
that does suck....I have been thinking about cleaning out the green house..but don't need that here until November
randy, I'm jealous about the var. heliconia. Wondering if the person that will give you the var. heliconia grows them in a greenhouse. I think I have done everything humanly possible to grow the var. heliconia, w/o success. If yes to greenhouse, maybe that's what it takes, which I don't have and don't anticipate having in the future. Maybe I overwatered, I dunno.
Today I applied high potassium fert. to my special bananas, 1 tsp/gal water. we'll see what that does. My Thai black from Brian's Botanical is looking good--trunk is so black looking. I should have grown in as a specimen, rather than w/ all other bananas. Unless you're looking carefully, it's hard to notice how special it is.
well, I have new things planted seed wise.. hopefully it will rain.. I always re-coup and re-group after being gone for a week.. one thing I thought about was getting deep tubs and setting the potted plants in them filled with 8 inches of water and moved to the south fence where it is shady, as well as putting all the potted brugs that are blooming in water basins.. so many with bloombuds right now.. I have until late October to worry about low temps, if even that early.. last year it didn drop below 40 until November
Lavender Moon Vine ( it says brazilian but who knows..)
Neri, he does the banana blog in the Chronicle, I don't think he has a green house, as a matter of fact the reason he had some for me is that he was dividing them because they had grown so much...He did loose his Ae last winter. I do have some Heliconia, and kind of find them finicky starting out, but once established they seem to be much better.
JW, we did build a table over at Waynes that is about 4 inches deep, and lined it with pond liner for a soaking table..it works well. There is a make shift drain that we drain into one of those large rectangle plastic containers.
I also have umbrellas up all over the garden.
The last big storm turned my umbrella wrong side out and tore down the canopy over the greenhouse. Just came in and I am dripping wet. It is so hot and dry. Only thing saving the backroom, Randy, is the China Doll you brought. It is growing faster than weeds and makes a beautiful shade. That and the wisteria vine.
PK
It's only 83F here...
That's cool about the China Doll.
Vossner, I'll ask him about tips on it tomorrow.
Don't rub it in, RJ!!! It is nice and HOT and sunny here. I wish you would share some of that rain. We need it desperately.
Pretty, pretty!
Why is everyone getting rain but me? Boo hoo hoo!!!!
I got about 5 min.'s worth yesterday.
Debra, great photos!
Hetty, beautiful! do you eat the fruit?
