LiliMerci, you have the best Mom. I have not made it to the Asian stores in Dallas yet. Dh always find a excuse not to take me.
Is your new Jasmine hardy in your zone?

This is Costus Lateriflorus, I have been waiting for it to bloom with more than one at a time. It is covered with buds and is very pretty with blooms all over it.

I am not going to risk that jasmine yet. I did take a clipping to see if it would root. If it does, then I would plant the new jasmine root cutting in the ground and see. I can't wait for it to fully open. Hopefully, nothing will eat it tonight...

A friend sent me cuttings of plumeria two summers ago. This one in particular is really nice.........She is even withstanding our 45 mph hot winds every day.

Beautiful Ixora SunshineSW!

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I agree with Dan ... Love that dark purple with the tiny pink blooms and the pentas are among my favorites..

Winter Haven, FL(Zone 9b)

Wait, was that an Ixora or a Pentas?

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

It's Ixora. Thanks you!

Winter Haven, FL(Zone 9b)

I am going to look up ixora as it is hardy here in zone 9..........it is like a bush always covered in blooms.......

I didn't realize it is an acid loving plant..........

Winter Haven, FL(Zone 9b)

I have a couple of the "Super King" Ixoras. When I went to St. Lucia they would have bunches of reds and yellows smushed together. It was beautiful (not my favorite combination of colors but with the ixora you are kinda limited) ha ha.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I had some Ixora in pots that never did well for me. This year I said the heck with it and put them in the ground and they have finally set buds. Guess I was pampering them too much.

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

I have a problem . . . anybody have any suggestions???

I think Ixoras like a bit more iron than the rest of the plants do.

As for those spiders up above, Yuppers the males are the smaller ones :)

Sorry for the late reply Rita, I was off the subscription for a bit, due to lack of funds, anyways, my Medinilla seems to be doing okay. I have new growth coming on. It was strange but I did lose a whole bunch of new growth for some reason, so this would be the second flush coming along.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Thanks Randy, I'll keep that in mind. They probably had "iron deficient anemia" when they were in the pots. Sadly, you are probably too young to remember that ad. LOL

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

ironanemia...I like it...
I wouldn't think I was too young, but ..I don't recall that one...!

Red Oak, TX

Very nice pictures everyone!!!

Phughes, so sorry about your rabbit problems, I wish I had a good answer for you. I do have quite a number of rabbits in my yard , but they usually leave my plants alone and munch on the St.Augustine grass. I do have day liliy , dwarf mexican petunias, catnip, vinca and sedum as suggestions for a border.

Planter56, thanks for your reply, I am happy to know that your Medinilla is doing well, mine did put out a few new leaves after blooming but it was downhill from there. I do have a Medinilla Scortechinii that is suposed to bloom in the fall.

This is a Red Iochroma, the blooms are half the size of the purple Iochroma and are sparce, never a good flush like the purple.

Oh dear, cross posted Rita.

LOL,
The first year we came back for a visit...I had no idea what a streaker was...no clue..My cousins delighted in bringing my brother and I up to date.

Hi LouC, it was very nice to get some rain last week. but it is back to the high temps again.

Rj, I saw a bloom on my Brazilian Red Cloak today that I bought in Houston.

Thumbnail by prita
Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

They are early this year, but probably because of last months August like weather!

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Rita my medinilla doesn't look too good either. My purple compact iochroma has never bloomed as well as my red or mauve colored one. I have one flower on my red cloak right now. I fed it last week and am waiting for more.

I had an ixora but after about the first year it never bloomed well so I got rid of it. Now there are three of them at the church where I take care of the flower beds. One is blooming really well. The other are kinda small right now and looking like they are getting ready to bloom. Any suggestions on what I should feed em? You think ironite is what they like, RJ?

I got up early to go spray flower beds and I'm sitting here on the computer . . bad Patty. I want to beat the heat so I best too ta loo.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

I mix vinegar & water to mop my floor and then I pour on my ixoras after I mop my tile floor. Works great for me.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Interesting! Too bad I'll actually have to clean the house to try that one. :-(

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Not really, you don't have to mop first. I am sure Ixora would like clean vinegar water better.LOL ; )

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

Is there acid in vinegar? Is that why they like it?
