Tropical Garden # 47

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

TY sunshine. they can grow about 5' x 5' but can keep smaller in a container.

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

a little eye candy for you. Visited my fave local nursery and saw this bromeliad, I don't know the different kinds, this might be a neo, I dunno. It was HUGE an it has a bloom

I haven't posted my hoyas in awhile, so here it is.

and this is another neo, actually a ball of neos, lol. Owner took two hanging baskets, lined w/ sphagnum. top basket planted like you would any regular basket. Bottom basket, neos were planted on the outside. Then two baskets joined together. I imagine this is a two people job. Ball is about 4 ft and extremely heavy as you can imagine.

Sunshine, I could get into hoyas, I'm discovering they're very easy plants. that one you have is lovely.

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Wow! that fireball neo's are gorgeous!!! I can only imagined the price....

Very cool looking brom-ball ^_^

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Vossner, most of the hoyas are very easy. Each one with different flowers, I love them. But then I love all the plants. LOL

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I didn't even ask how much the ball was. I may try making my own using 2 reg. hanging baskets. Now to find 200 neos, lol.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

That neo-ball is cool.

Nery, I am coveting your dwarf plumie; how pretty that one is. This is the NOID that spent the winter outdoors and lived to tell about it. The plant is is huge (by my standards) and I really can't keep hauling this thing around.

I think I got that one from FL colors 3 yrs ago, this is the first yr it has bloomed. This year I have been good about fertilizing the plumies.

You're right, the plumie hauling bit in the winter is a big, big PITA. Wonder of yours is Aztec Gold.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Dunno, it smells sort of gardenia like.

Neo Zoe, this one is in an 18' basket. The spread quickly so you shouldn't have any trouble with that ball. Although, I thought they needed to have water in the cups and how would the ones on the bottom thrive?????

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

huh, well, like you say, you're supposed to water the cups only, but I have a couple of neos indoors and I still put a little bit of water in the soil when I notice bottom leaves drying out, not much. I will ask next time I'm there, but I wouldn't be surprise if she gives them a give spray with the hose and the water from the top trickles to the bottom.

Also, I would imagine you plant the bottom basket like you do w/ the upside down pots. You plant them, give them two weeks for roots to take hold, then you hang upside down. Or in the case of the ball, after two or more weeks, that's when you join the two baskets to form the ball. If you did right after planting, plants would probably fall off.

Ardesia, you're half way there, lol. wouldn't that one be awesome in a ball?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Silly me, I planted them in the top of the basket instead of the bottom. LOL

Portland, TX(Zone 9a)

I had to chuckle at that one RJ. "The Mess" just doesn't have the same ring to it as Jungle Heights. :-)

Joeswife, I have to agree, the Blue Jishi x ten ten, is a real beauty. I hope that she produces lots of seeds (hint)

vossner, I thought that I could get my passport renewed in Houston, but have since learned that I will have to go elsewhere.
I love your plumerias. They look so healthy, but I am more jealous of those nurserys that you go to, that carries all those nice big plants.

Sunshinesw, the dark foliage on you Hoya is a eye catcher, that is a beautiful plant.
I have never seen a umbrella tree before. You have the most interesting plants, I enjoy seeing them.

LiliMerci, I will have to agree with Planter56, your last plant does look like a Crinum Procerum Splendens

ardesia, do you have your Neo Zoe in full sun? It is so bright and red, compared to mine which is in mosly shade. They will naturally turn their cups upright to get water .

Rj, My back yard has always been nana's garden, I do not think that it will ever change.
I like the rock border in the front yard picture too, I might have to steal your idea.

I looked up the crinium and I wondered if my leaves are too narrow to be a crinium.

I have most of my crinium in the ground. I may dig this one out and keep it in the garage this winter - just in case it is not frost hardy.
