I have that one. Do you have any Australian Cannas? I wonder how they will do in our zone. I don't want to kill it.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

It may be interesting to put on your want list. Huh?

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

I have one or two and wondered if I need to dig it out.

Some things are just wasted on the young , It takes maturity to appreciate.

Blossombuddy,
The leaves on your tansy are different, must be a different kind.
I saw, in the plant files, one with white daisy like flowers, would like to have one like that.

I have no clue as to the flowers color! Its been there for years. I am about ready to take it out as it is getting out of its bounds for me! I love the foliage.

My Dh and I volunteered to redo a neglected border for the Historic Society. Last may there was ditch lilies. two varieties of hosta, many seven foot maple saplings, thistle, and raspberry brambles. While digging by hand my Dh also found large tree roots from a Maple that had been cut down a few years ago. I'm quite impressed by how hard my husband worked preparing this soil.

This was a last minute decision to work this bed and we didn't get a chance to propagate plants in head of time. We're living on a part-time job, so with no budget, the only money spend was a little gas to transport free compost and composted horse manure.

Very beautiful, Maozamom. I want to create a similar look in one of my beds that is in the middle of my yard, kinda like yours, but not even a fraction as lush and pretty as yours is. Now I know what I want to work on next! I would love to have some of your Angel Trumpet seeds or a cutting.

How do you overwinter your Canna Lily?

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

Beautiful !!! You have great color for this time of the year.
Is the tall red plant a castor bean? Is it easy to grow?

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Huggergirl, how tall is your Lantana? I have about four plants and they are all taller than I am. 5'1" Butterflies love them, I see
humming birds fluttering around out there too. Wonder could you trim them like hedges. I have "Miss Huff"

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

ridesredmule,Lantanna here is an annual,I dont have full, full sun,its probly only 2ft tall ,as I replanted it late july.I am not familar with growing it as a perrinial, wish I could.ive heard it can be invasive in florida.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I bet it could be. This one is four or five seasons old and I do cut it back in the spring, but it comes back with a vengence. I have to cut it back for my path but it is beautiful. here is a picture, you can see how tall it is(the lantana).

maoza, what a beautiful garden.

Girl, this is my pathway. but thanks, it is impressive.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

oops. must have been in a rush cause kids were home from school. Thanks for posting photos. I enjoyed them.

Orrville, OH(Zone 5b)

Lynn- drop me a d-mail. I'll have plenty of cuttings from my angel trumpets and would be pleased to share some for postage. I have 7 older plants and 11 that I started from cutting this year and I don't have enough room to keep them all.

After a frost kills the canna leaves and stalks I dig them up and keep the tubers in the basement over the winter. This is a very tough variety and I never lose any of them.

The cator bean came from last years piggy swap. They're as easy to grow as the sunflowers with the added advantage of not being eaten by the deer.

The deer have eaten almost all the tithonia. I live around the corner and down a block from this bed, but have never had deer in my yard. I was quite surprised to find that they were a problem. It's not as if they're hungry or anything. This is dairy country and there's plenty for them to eat in the fields just out of town.

Next year I hope to replace all the hosta and most of the ditch lilies. But over all I'm quite pleased with what I was able to do with a couple of strong backs and no money.

I'm picking thistle every couple of day and although it's not as big a problem as it was I'd love to hear any ideas to get rid of this nasty weed.

Lovely photos all. Just wanted to comment that even though we get freezes, lantana here is an perennial and can get very tall and wide so I keep then trimmed. The old fashioned pink/yellow and the New Gold seen in this photo grows the largest for me.

It grows onto the driveway so that keeps it trimmed if I forget!

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

ridesredmule,I love your pathway and all the concrete garden art,and the huge lantanna,my lantanna is very puny compared to that .LOL :)

Thistles can be irradicated in several ways. Chemically, Roundup takes care of them and just about every other plant on the planet when carefully sprayed at the appropriate time. There is imitation rRoundup available too, but not as potent. Continual mowing will set them back as well. They can be a pain. And the finches love them!

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

cactus, your garden and photos makes my heart sing, its like a good peice of choclate !!! hey is flickr a good place and can you email pix from there ? Thanks Tamara

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

huggergirl, I loved the comment and the zinnias are so pretty. I made the sidewalk myself and I do enjoy it so much. Sometimes I have to trim the lantana back just to see what is there.
cactus, loved your pictures.

Orrville, OH(Zone 5b)

Love your garden ,cactus. I'd need a barrel to hold all the Japanese beetles I'd be picking off flowers, if I had even half as many roses. I especially like the agave, it's so architectural. That's quite a property and view you have there. I can tell you appreciate it by how well you enhance it. I always look forward to your pictures. Can I ask how old your garden is?
