Garden Photo's 09 ......# 36

That is a very cool tree WNYwillieB. I've heard it called 'Elephant Foot Tree' too which suits it.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

I recognized that texture right away, Willie. That one looks real good.
I've had one for over 30 years that I got as a seedling at the N. E. Flower show. The dog used to nibble at it in her younger years.
Great plant that can outlive most of us.

Very cool willie.

Very nice photos, ngam, & weird but nice plant, Willie---I can see why the dogs & cats want to chew on the foliage. Hope it's not poisonous!

Wow! Lots of great pics! I haven't checked things out here for a couple of days. Been really busy, what with going to a Beach Boys concert in Boston on Saturday, then working my tail off in the gardens. I'm telling you, taking pics of all the new DL's that open each day is very time-consuming! I have taken nearly 1000 in the last few days. Then taking measurements and stats for my late mother's DL seedlings that I want to register is another big eater of my time, as well as spreading pollen around. I have so much weeding to do, too! And I have big plans to redo many DL beds, but not till after they're done blooming. Whew! So much!

Thanks to all who commented on my pics posted in the previous thread.

Jo Anne, your container planting are looking really great. I especially like the coleus in your Picasa album, picture #11, the one on the bottom left. Is that the splashed one you were calling 'Glory'? I have to admit that I went way overboard on buying coleus this year. I have only planted half, I think. The rest are in quart size pots. I need to get them planted this weekend for sure. Wish I had more time!

Celeste, that's a cool pic on the previous thread of your keeper of the lilies with your reflection in the gazing ball. And I love your garden fairy pic at the start of this thread. Very nice!

Shelly, Sam the puppy (previous thread) is definitely a cutie! I love Scotties. That coreopsis (previous thread) is certainly a pretty one. Do you know what variety it is?

Allison, the time-lapse photos (previous thread) of your lily were cool! Nice hummer shots, too. I have seen the hummers here a number of times, at my bee balm, especially.

Nice pics of your DL's, Andy (previous thread and this one). I especially like this one: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=6865394 .

Louise, that dark DL with the edge (previous thread) is gorgeous! May not be Roses In Snow, but still very nice.

Kassia, my coleus are getting a lot of damage from slugs as well. Didn't know what was eating them till you mentioned yours. Now I know!

Ayah, your community garden is very nice, and I love your cardinal sign. Very nice!

Pat, that's a very nice morning shot in your garden! I, too, like the 'Black Adder' agastache. I bought it last year, and it's looking spectacular this year. I love both your 'Irish Envy' and 'Hush Little Baby' DL's. I bought the latter one last year.

Marilyn, love that oriental lily (this thread)!

Great pony tail palm, Willie! I love stuff like that.

Dang, I surprised that Jo Anne or Allison haven't waken up the morning around here yet!

Pixie, I haven't had a chance to mention that your garden fairy is adorable!

Karen.... Thanks! The coreopsis is Limerock Dream.

What a place for some spidey to decide to make it's home.

I looked for him, couldn't find him. But, I'm sure that it's tiny and easy to miss.

Thanks for the info on the coreopsis, Shelly. Might have to try it one of these days. Cool shot of the spider web on the echi.

Very nice, Jo Anne!

Any time!!. Beware though. they may be only marginally hardy, even in my zone 7a. I only decided to try it because it was dried out on a sale rack for $2.00. I'm really hoping to be able to get it to reseed. Anyhow, I think that it might do ok over the winter in a spot that has very quick drainage and some protection. That's what I'm going to try for anyhow! I'll try to remember to report to everyone on how it overwinters!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, I will be interested to hear how that does for you. I tried Limerock Ruby last year. Put on a spectacular show, but didn't make it through the winter. Great as an annual, though, as it's a fast grower.

Here are a few pics from the last several days.

Beautiful Karen! I too like DL's and phlox together, also Coneflowers thrown in here and there.

Nice combo, Jo Ann---am trying to paint the O. lily today---is that a green echie, Shelley? Karen, 'Kansas City Kicker' is outstanding. Here is a pastel DL that I like...

OMG do slugs fully developed lilys??? I thought they just got the shoots in the spring???

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

I have found them higher up on an oak tree than I could reach, on top of lily plants,DLs, 7' up a clematis and on top of mums. They are everywhere, as long as they have no sun and moist conditions they will never leave a plant. I hate them a lot..

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

me too
