Planter, I have 2 buds on mine. Mine blooms every summer and I always look forward to seeing them flower. It takes about 3 weeks for the bud to form.

Vossner, thanks for the interesting article. I have a lemon tree started from seeds (from a garden in Italy). I hear it will take about 10+ years before it will fruit, but I'm patient...

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

wow Planter that is awsome what is it?
vossner, I will be glad ro send seeds or plants, I have both
that plant, rita, looks like my butterfly bahaunia tree.. the leaves do look like a cassia tree on mine too..
I found a lot of nice wild flower seed pods out in the country the other day..
I pay the water bill since I am the one who uses it all the time ..LOL

Beautiful NB Planter, I was never awake to see mine bloom so I gave it away to a friend who was less of a sleepyhead. :-)

Cape Coral, FL(Zone 10a)

Sobe, you have a wonderful garden and check out the bananas! Do you eat all of them?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I brought a lot of seeds back from Hawaii and they all got stuffed in the same bag so I have no idea of what is what.

Judging by the red stems some of these have they might be Cordylines. What do you think? They are about 1" tall at this point.

Thanks,
Bananas ..Oh yes, we eat all of them (including my neighbors)._.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

HEY...yes they are cordylines....and I think the seeds were from MoanaLoa which is cream and green! Good growing!!!

Here is a variegated impatiens ... the pink one has orange ones.... The 'breeder' called them Confetti...

one of my favorite brugs...I think it is called Hawaiian Dancer...lovely fragrance....

Thanks Carol, this is so much fun.

I call that impatiens delicious, good enough to eat!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh Carol, you would hate it here. Over a 100 again today. The plants and the people wilt and with the extreme heat for so long now, nothing will bloom. Barely staying alive with a water bill of over $200.00

vossner, thanks, those crinums are not very pretty, but they do have a good fragrance

Planter56, I hope that you Mom is doing well.
It is so much fun to watch those Epi. bloom. You do have to agree that they are much prettier in person than they are in pictures.

LiliMerci, what color are your plants? I am still waiting on the ones from sunshinesw to bloom for me.

Sunshinesw, How pretty is that!!! Seven blooms at one time,
Do you have those Gerber daisies in a basket or planted in the ground? Mine seem to do better in a hanging basket.

Joeswife, thanks on the id, I will have to look it up. I like the way my Epi.looks like an octopus

SobeGardener, thank you very much for showing us your immaculate beautiful garden.
I saw that you have mangos, bananas and sea grapes growing. Do you ever get grapes from your plant? I remember my GM making wine from sea grapes.

Ardesia, you have enough cordyline there to make yourself a hedge.

AlohaHoya, those are beautiful blooms, I love the variegated impatients. Thanks

A hedge! Great idea Rita; it would look ever so tropical.

My favorite crinum for scent is Mrs. James Hendry but I can't find a photo of that one. This is C. Bradley, a petite one and I can't bend down far enough to see if it has a nice scent. :-)

Rita, I have a white dinner-plate-size Night Blooming Cereus and I just saw a 3rd bud today. Hopefully, they won't fall off. One year, I had like 7-8 buds and some of them fell off and only 5 went to full size. I guess there were too many buds and they weren't in a big enough container and had to compete for resources. That's just my guess. I also have those small ones SunshineSw have. Those don't have any fragrance to them and they are smaller, may be 6 inches?

A neighbor of mine gave me a cutting last year. and I think she said it was red but it is small so I don't expect to see bloom on it this year. I'm patiently waiting.

My mother said she grew up (in North Vietnam) with a huge one in front of her yard and the first night most of the blooms open, they were allowed to stay up late to see them. She said they produced 30-50 blooms at a time. I can't even imagine that.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

What a lovely memory that must be; it sounds wonderful.

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

Mom was in San Jose a month ago and she said they have tons of them for sale there. You can get them in just about every color there is. I don't know why she didn't get me one.

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Yes, Princess K...I wouldn't like it at all there right now. I really don't do heat!!! Our average temp is 79 which is HOT with no breeze. Our water bill is $0.00. we are on water catchment. But our elec. bill is nearly $200.00 every month and that is with hot water on solar. Elec. is horribly expensive here!!!

North of Atlanta, GA(Zone 8a)

79 sounds like a dream, which you are living in a dreamy place AlohaHoya....

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Right....and I count my lucky stars every day and thank the godesses often!

Buffalo, NY

Yup they are much better in person than in pictures Rita. My mom is doing okay so far. She has improved somewhat since the initial onslaute back on the 12th. It's going to be a very long recovery period I'm afraid though.

I'll have to get pictures of my iochroma cyanum. It has so many flowers coming this year and I don't know why :) Sooooooooooooooo much rain up here lately.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Living only less than 10 miles, as the crow flies, from Rita, I cannot understand our different results.

My hang up is the hot nights we have in the summer here in the SE. Having to use blankets while in HI was heavenly. Plants like that respite from the heat also.

I think this is the Miracle Berry I started from seeds this winter. It is slow growing. Can anyone tell if these are leaves from the Miracle Berry? I am going to put it into a larger container.

It does not look like Synsepalum dulcificum, Miracle Fruit.

I went and looked at my small bush; the leaves sure look similar.

Here is a Miracle Fruit bush.
