What have you ordered for 2009 - Part 9

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Ha ha ha D-nut,been there done that. Not nearly as bad as Patti with over 7000 bulbs!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Jan and Pixie I have a brilliant plan for all of them somewhere if only I could find it..... Perhaps after a few refreshing beverages this evening with my DH, I will come up with a new one ^_^

South Hamilton, MA

Throw them at the deer. some creepy deer stuck its head under a prickly bush & ate a hosta. Luckily couldn't reach all the leaves.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Bad Bambi :(

South Hamilton, MA

Right!!!!

Thomaston, CT

What a nice niece you are, Pixie! No Bambis here, but 10 turkeys were in my neighbor's drive---they won't be there come hunting season!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Have fun planting, Cousin Nut!

Yum, turkeys and Bambi! Too bad I can't share some of that bounty. My sister in TX can, though!

Karen

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

WHOO HOOO I forgot I swooped with the trusty edger last weekend ^_^ There is definitely lots of potential plantaceous spots out there for spring bulbous things (she says bolstered by a refreshing beverage). Also I forgot I ordered fall blooming crocii (speciosus and zonatus) which I'm excited about all over again. It's amazing the hidden treasures one finds in a box of spring bulbous things ^_^

Thomaston, CT

Can't wait until mine arrive----then I'll dig up the rest of the old bed.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

My bluestone order came tonight, WOO HOO!!!!

LITHODORA diffusa GRACE WARD
VERONICA Teucrium Crater Lake Blue
ASTER October Skies

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Nice choices flowerjen! WHOOO HOOO on the bonus! Don't ya just luv presents? ^_^ I just placed my first order with a US dahlia supplier today. The shipping is almost as much as the tubers. EEK! Please note that I'm not complaining about the supplier in the least cuz they don't have any control over international postal charges but holy moly!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I know those shipping charges are crazy.
I was going to order from a company on the other side of the country and the shipping came to the same amount as the plants...I just couldn't do it.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Thanks flowerjen. You can imagine with the phyto charge on top of it! What ever happened to free trade? Sounds like there isn't even any free trade between states let alone between CA and US. Sorry Dave and Admin BUT this is politically plant related so I think we should be allowed to whine. I'm pretty sure plant politics are in the footnotes of the DG rules. Check out clause 6(1)(G)(ii)p. I'm sure that covers it.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

lol

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Too funny, Cousin Nut!

Have fun planting, Jen! Always nice to get new treasures.

Karen

Southeastern, NH(Zone 5b)

I finally made some decisions and placed some orders! I have most everything added to my journal so it's a nice way to see my list because it has pics and all. Check it out. : ) http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/vbc/Meredith79/82044/

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

love those Hyacinth Meredith... nice choices!

South Hamilton, MA

The deer eat our tulips so don't order many. Why don't daffs come in red?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Nice choices, Meredith! I want more daffs, as the deer don't eat them, and they're so beautiful.

Iris, I guess it's the same reason DL's don't come in blue. No one has been able to hybridize them in that color yet. I'm sure someone is trying to get a red daff, though.

This is as close to blue as you can get on a DL, and it's not bad, actually: http://www.ohiodaylilysociety.org/pieceofsky.html

Karen

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Meredith love your daff choices.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Karen do have that 'Piece of Sky' dl?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

No, I wish. It's really pricey. Not that I haven't paid a large amount for a DL before.

Karen

Thomaston, CT

It's a beautiful DL! Wish I had the money, but I don't---and just think if the deer ate that one----guess we'd have venison in the freezer!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

LOL!

Karen

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I ordered seeds from Territorial seed
Brandywine Tomatoe for one thing after tasting Bills at the RU.
Zinnias,Cosmos,Sunflowers.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

mine were the brandywine hybrid from burpee:)

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

HMMMMMMM do you think I'll be disapointed?
Isnt Brandywine the same all over?

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you will not be dissappointed:) - i think the hybrid produces more t's than a normal brandywine - and territorial seed is an inexpensive for seeds too. burpee seeds seems to a $1 more than other sources

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

ok thanks

Thomaston, CT

There are several Brandywines---pink, red, purple, but they are all good---glad we had the chance to sample yours, Bill. Jo Ann, the leaves are funny-looking---sort of like tobacco---and they tend to reseed, but you can always pull them out.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

With compost use here at its peak I pull out a lot of tomatos

Thomaston, CT

Got a surprise gift today---my brother & nephew went to Wave Hill in the Bronx, & bought me a wintergreen plant---I love it!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

nice

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I picked up 90 tulip bulbs at costco today... $20.00... purple and white mix

South Hamilton, MA

boy, would the deer be happy if I did that.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I keep them close to the house and spray ... spray ... spray

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

me too

Thomaston, CT

I love a purple mixture---saw one in Bluestone's for $12.95 for 18 bulbs---of course, that's not including shipping!
