We came from here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1010123/#new
Last Sunday I went out to the country , Found alot of cool Kansas Flora, Insects, and Birds..
Tuesday I drove up to Eskridge, Kansas to meet up with Auntb..such a lovely family and a wonderful Dgr' friend. She gave me some plants in a box.. Yesterday, I saw this..and remembered she had mentioned she dug some of the MG that comes back for her every year..
Here it is... so cute and all, but still in the box as of this afternoonl.. It is now in a Pot, three plants, with a tiny fir tree seedling I dug up out in the country this am.. what a nice trip tis one was, so nice and quiet, well, it wasn't quiet really.. with the bobwhites and whipporwhills calling around, dragonflys whirling around me, the low vibrating sound of a bumble bee checking me out.. and the earling morning country silence then turns into a symphony..
My Morning Glory Adventures continued.. July's End ....
Back at home I have missed alot.. My cardinal climber and cypress vines have been blooming I found out this eveing while pulling weeds and cutting prenneils down a bit.. ( I want my cones and coreopsis to keep growing, they just need to grow more arms..) all I can do is think back to where I have been in this month and last month, and I know there are still blooms to come from those areas.. These have just started blooming in the Southeast part of Kansas I observed..
There were some big Butterflys, black and yellow, with pretty blue spots, Yellow butterflys, monarchs, white moths, well , dang so many pollinators..Catepillars were everywhere.. chewing happily.. I didn't have my camera with me at first.. I had gotten out of the car to walk out closer to this bush.. I could smell it.. it drew me in.. walked thru the knee high weeds, across the murkey wet ditch gully, and as soon as I got to this bush, everything scattered.. so I RAN back , jumped over the mud gulley, and swore I ouuldn't get out of the car without my camera again..
OH! here is a shot of that big nuttails or whatever it is called..
when I got home, it was 11 pm, and Joe was getting buffalo burgers, hamburgers and hot dogs ready to cook. I went out and saw my morning glorys blooming on the south side, but all of them on the north side of the patio and fence and barrell were all folding and crumpling..
My back yard and patio certainly does have a definate lay out.. full sun to the north, half and half in the middle, and part sun to the south.. the vine fences are blooming.. rebecca is not going to quit , she wants to shine everyday, I am very very pleased with her .. she stands out in the crowd....
Here is the Patio at noonish... this is looking northeast
I had to make some fried green tomatoes and zucchini for my daughter Rose and I.. I loved sending her to the garden, she hates the outdoors so much.. .. make her work a little for the good food I cook for her on Sundays..heh...so I just came in from the country, tied up my hair, washed my hands, and start frying..I remember when hamburger buns used to be three packages for a dollar.. and I remember my mothers' morning glory in the back by the fireburner was already covering the old windmill..
Debra - Loved your adventure yesterday! And the ending was SWEET!
This photo of this plant looks like a milkweed of some sort:

What is that plant with the white roundish spikey blooms? Rather cool looking wild flower!
well the storm came, it blew everything to pieces.. the patio chairs were in the barrels, the plants all knocked down, limbs from the neighbors tree on top of my garden, three windchimes down from the front porch, and some line, I have no clue, is down in the backyard right now as we speak.. the wind is horrible here enough , but this tornadic behavior drives me insane.. I am glad I got to take pctures this am, as I have no clue as to what is left out there right now.. here is a blue that opened up.. first picture with flash since it was 6:45 am ...
Debra - {{{Hugs}}} I am so sorry that the storm ripped through your area and made a mess of you yard and garden. That's heartbreaking after all the work you did! Hopefully, the damage is not a bad as you are fearing!
Your tomatoes look so yummy! I hope that they hung in there! As did all your plants! (Sigh) That's such a bummer!
This one http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6844928 looks like Blue Asago Willow. Did I share seeds of that cultivar with you? If so, I bet that is what that blue beauty is. :-)
Let us know how your yard and garden faired once the storms pass over. I guess that's why the Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) saying became so popular. One minute things look calm and serene and the next the winds come in and make things unrecognizable. "I guess we are not in Kansas anymore, Toto ..."
I have the same problem here, only it's hurricanes! Blah! And our hurricane season will be starting around the end of next month. We usually have one before or around Labor Day weekend. (sigh) I am not looking forward to getting slammed by any storms this year. Hopefully they will tip-toe around me. :-)
Well, storm came and went.. Before pictures and after pictures just make me want to cry, but I am starting to get it together.. thank goodness the lions main string yarn was nice and loose, because None of the glorys were ripped apart. The poles and branches and pots and stands were up ended and thrown about, but the strings laying on the ground and on the barrels' lip, were still holding the strong and everlasting morning glorys for me.. so new winding, poles uprighted again, re-arranging here and there, constantly findng little tree branches where they are not supposed to be, I had to wire the patio table umbrella back together, I have three broken pots I need to replace, no big deal, thank God. I still went to meet Bonnie ( AuntB) the next morning after I kinda took inventory and straightend things out a little.. before I left I took some pictures and was greeted by this bloom from Ronnie....

Goodness! You really got damage from those awful winds! I am so sorry! I know how discouraging it can feel after it happens. Hopefully, everything is okay or will come back stronger than ever!
What is this? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6858303
Glad your MGs were okay! :-) Amazing how they can take a beating and keep on blooming! :-)
So, back to the wonderful day out with a fellow DGr' I am so lucky to be close to, we met up in Emporia, went to Leroy to and a family nursery in the middle of NO WHERE.. they had some really cool things there.. anyway.. on the way to somewhere else, as we were driving, I saw these blooms rambling along the ditches.. I said " there they are!" so she stops, we get out... tromp in the weeds and find these..
LOL! Debra, you and those catepillar...
Poor Bonnie, not used to pulling into a bunch of weeds and trying to pull one out.. but she was enjoying herself I could tell..after all, this is where she grew up..then we got into the CRV and trudged onward.. went to an old house she once lived in... 32 or 33 years ago.. what an awsome property, it must have been hard for her to leave this once pristine homestead.. I knew how she felt, as when I went back to my child hood home, it was under cement and condos, ..at least here she can see what is left of her long ago home..we wanted to go into the brush and look for her plants and shrubs and flowers.. but I had already pulled a couple ticks off of me, and we really were not prepared this trip for brush pulling, and we had three or four 5 ft long vines already in the back of her car along with various deadheads...potted plants from the Arnolds family nursery...and well.. u know, we weren't dressed in camaflauge LOL
OH! well before this we went looking for a cemetary a really old one, while we were walking around the roadside by it,Bonnie saw a plant and said hey whats that?.. I look close at it, bend down to get my trifocals close in and see this and stroke it cuz Bonnie says look at that what is that on those leaves?? Listen up folks.. DON"T TOUCH THIS!
what is that on the leaves???
poison ivy bloom pollen...
that is terrible!
well, we didn't have soap and water, i just touched with two fingers, so.. i squeezed watkins bug repel cream on and then followed up with a good wipe of vicks vapo rub, which I carry in my purse always, then we went to that park, and they had running water in the restroom, .. no poison ivy yet.. but sure do have another bad case of chiggars.. this has been the first Year i HAVE EVER had a problem with chiggars biting me, but of course it doesn't help when I am running around in the yard in the rain in my nite gown .. Ipomoea pandurata (L. ) G.F.W. Mey.
is the name of the native glory we found..
Debra - How's the garden after all the rain? I hope everything is in good shape and didn't get beat up too badly.
We get those chiggers here too! Boy! Do they hurt when they bite you! Almost as bad as mosquitos! Ugh!
Late to work everyday last week to take pictures.. was told I needed to be there when I amsupposed to be, I replyed that I had been staying longer than I was supposed to be and was told it didn't matter.. so .. not one minute late and I swear I am not staying one minute past 4 pm .. when I was asked if my alarm clock was broke, I replied no... I have a garden I like to look at before I leave.. well anyway.. it was worth being late all those days.. PFFT..
This little blue one was a surprise for me..
