Betty, so what did you do, had you gone to the family reunion and then found out it was the 'wrong' weekend...omg..yep, best keep tabs on that calendar..lol

Crissy, I have to say Dave sure has his hands full with keeping tabs on you..lol..too funny..I'm glad your friend is smilling..she's so very young to have lost her hubby..how are the children coping? it's not usually till later years that they show signs of grief/loss...give her a hug for me...

I wasn't lonely on the way there or back, Aunt Muriel kept gabbing away, mostly about people I've never met, can name birthdates/anniversaries/children/who married who...and all at same time..had to keep asking her to clarify..lol

Then she told me her eldest friends live in St. Catherines, about 2hrs from here and that her daughter never brings her to visit them..soooo I said that if she called them and they were home next weekend, it's on my way over to Buffalo, slight detour and that's we'd drop her off and pick her up on Sunday...soooo more gabbing to come..

Me, sister Sharon, mom and aunt Muriel....

Niece Michelle, lordy she's only 4'8"..she's almost that around..lol..funny to see someone sooo tiny pregnant..her DH is about 6'2 and about 230 lbs. - big guy...

Niece Nicole played us a few tunes..omg she's terrific..plays the horn, the drums, piano, guitar and fiddle as well as sings..multi talented for sure...

typical teen though, sure didn't like it that Sharon brought the violin and she had to play...

Nicole is Inuit and sister Sharon adopted her prior to her birth..here she is with Sharon's grandaughter..almost same age..

Mom, social butterfly that she is..lol..chatting away..no need to wonder where I get it from...

Of course you can't pass a nursery and not stop in..ended up with 10 perrenials, the larger sized ones..and...almost ALL red...lucky me...

Just planted them all and OMG talk about mosquitos

Edited to read...

Just too funny, brother Bernie just called me to see if he could use my bisquit joiner as he can't find his..imagine the fun I'm having, having men in the neighborhood, my boys and Bernie borrowing MY tools.....

Well, going to try having a quiet night

Looking forward to reading what the night shift writes..lol

Cold wet day today....did a 15 mile ride "under water" might as well have gone for a swim...just thankful we were not doing the annual 200 mile Seattle to Portland ride that was held today! Don't envy the riders doing that one...thunder storms last night and rain most of today.

Hot chicken soup ready for dinner so I

Also, today...jumped around the yard with my Weed wrench, hehehe, how can I say how much fun I had...lol even demonstrated, big cheesy grin , it worked excellently, ljust love when that happens.

Tonight, we are having a celebration! Alissa got her diploma, (I think I told you) but today was suppose to be her "family" Party.
I can't tell you how angered I was at there pretense! Said the party wasn't really for her! So glad I didn't go, I knew I would most likely blast that women, who calls herself Allisa's mom...Shaking, but When Alissa arrived here, She wanted a hug from her "Real mom" gave her several, so we'll Celebrate again. Made Chicken for dinner and Sabrina created the most awsom Firepit! Striking it up in a few.

Betty, How did Michelle like Your's and Sharons gift??

Liz, how awsom about the your sale. OMG, sorry about the pup, and all the medical issues, hope that it gets clear.

Tubby, I loved the post from last evening, hope you get a better sleep tonight.

Betty they just have the one 4 year old son, I'm wondering if he'll ever remember his dad at all. Love the family photos. I need to find one around here of me and my parents, I don't have anything new though.

I went next door for their cookout, boy I had a great time. For a little while there were 4 girls, me, her SIL, her SIL best friend who is her friend too, and her. Then after a little while another one of her friends showed up, her FIL was there, and a couple of her husbands friends. Us girls played Uno while the guys cooked and chatted outside, and the food was to die for. I got home about 8 and watered for an hour, now I need to grab a quick shower and hit the hay. Can't believe the weekend is already over.

Night night!

Morning, as I stretch with a big yawn..

Slept right through the alarm ...nothing but dreams..where do some of these dreams come from??? omg...think I'll go on the internet today and see if they have dream book info...yikes...

Talk later...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Betty, that is not like you to sleep through the alarm. Hope your not too late for work?

Hubby is back to work this morning, after 1 month off! He is feeling much better, but you have heard that expression, "Iron in my blood turned to lead in my butt". Well, that has some truth to it. When you lose blood, it takes all the iron too, so he has been really tired, but on iron pills. Dr. said it will just take time for him to get better! So we will see how he gets through his first day back at work.
Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda Kay it was all the dreaming, kept waking up, going back into the same dream, at one point I shut t.v. off and cuddled under the blankets in HOPES to continue the dream..so laughing...there must be a lesson in that dream somewhere..hoping to find it...

Can hubby's work put him on light duties for the first few days to give him a chance to recoup?

Liz, always a good weekend when you work in the garden AND got me 15 new perrenials, got to fill those spaces that I took out the tall weeds/flowers..

I'll shush but you know better than to be smoking after having quit..
What a nice thing to say to Crissy...I try to always be nice but the very odd time, well let's just say it has to be because someone has harmed someone I love or myself then I'm just NOT nice..lol

Wow 15 days, that's quite a bit longer than your last trip to Chicago Liz...nice to get away that long..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Tubby, know you are off doing 'to do list' for family so thought I'd post this chuckle on your behalf....

Grandma is eighty-eight years old and still drives her own car. She writes:

Dear Grand-daughter,

The other day I went up to our local Christian book store and saw a "Honk if you love Jesus" bumper sticker

I was feeling particularly sassy that day because I had just come from a thrilling choir performance, followed by a thunderous prayer meeting.

So, I bought the sticker and put it on my bumper.

Boy, am I glad I did; what an uplifting experience that followed.

I was stopped at a red light at a busy intersection, just lost in thought about the Lord and how good he is, and I didn't notice that the light had changed.

It is a good thing someone else loves Jesus because if he hadn't honked, I'd never have noticed.

I found that lots of people love Jesus!

While I was sitting there, the guy behind started honking like crazy, and then he leaned out of his window and screamed, 'For the love of God!'

'Go! Go! Go! Jesus Christ, GO!'

What an exuberant cheerleader he was for Jesus!

Everyone started honking!

I just leaned out my window and started waving and smiling at all those loving people.

I even honked my horn a few times to share in the love!

There must have been a man from Florida back there because I heard him yelling something about "the sun and the beach".

I saw another guy waving in a funny way with only his middle finger stuck up in the air.

I asked my young teenage grandson in the back seat what that meant.

He said it was probably a Hawaiian good luck sign or something.

Well, I have never met anyone from Hawaii , so I leaned out the window and gave him the good luck sign right back.

My grandson burst out laughing.

Why even he was enjoying this religious experience!!

A couple of the people were so caught up in the joy of the moment that they got out of their cars and started walking towards me.

I bet they wanted to pray or ask what church I attended, but this is when I noticed the light had changed.

So, grinning, I waved at all my brothers and sisters, and drove on through the intersection.

I noticed that I was the only car that got through the intersection before the light changed again and felt kind of sad that I had to leave them after all the love we had shared.

So I slowed the car down, leaned out the window and gave them all the Hawaiian good luck sign one last time as I drove away. Praise the Lord for such wonderful folks!!
Will write again soon,

Love, Grandma

Victoria Harbour, ON

I'm so trying to make it so that we can spend either a morning or afternoon with you all...I'd be thrilled at that..

Crissy have you found a friend to come with you???

Lyndonville, NY

Good morning everyone,

Betty, I am proud of you sleeping all night and a bit passed the alarm....you need your rest! You had quite the busy weekend.

Liz, your trip will be great for you. Isn't the anticipation building up crazy....I have the same thing! LOL Praying I don't drive poor Betty crazy.

I woke up to total chaos in the living room. I was putting some items away....and had my hands full. So mistakenly left a couple rolls of toilet paper on the chair. Did I ever mention I have a "flock" of cats. Well, they had a field day! LOL

I have a work plan going on in my brain, don't know if it will happen...but its a plan.

I finished Shannons Grad party invite and that is ready to print also. Mail out tomorrow.

Tubby, how are you feeling? I am saying prayers you feel better soon. I am not familiar with that medication at all...and it wasn't in my book. So, it must be newer.

Well, going for some coffee to see if that will help me feel better.

Debbie

Lyndonville, NY

Good morning Crissy.....didn't mean to leave you out! You sound excited to meet up with Betty also....she is wonderful!

Debbie

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank you dear Debbie...

Laughing at what must be a sight..are your cats 'kitties' or just older and mischievious...

Debbie, had booked the week starting 5th, just booked off July31st. the Friday..omg you have the graduation is it Saturday and cooking on the Friday? you'll be busy/busy

Can you believe I'm sitting here, and my nose is FROZEN...what is with the weather..

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG, just what I need, a 5 minute chocolate cake recipe...

Liz from Ireland sent it to me, will have to slap her fingers..lol

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE
4 tablespoons flour
4 tablespoons sugar
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons oil
3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)
A small splash of vanilla extract
1 large coffee mug (MicroSafe)

Add dry ingredients to mug, and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.
Pour in the milk and oil and mix well..
Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract, and mix again.
Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts.

(I guess 4 minutes or so at 800 watts)
The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!
Allow to cool a little, and tip out onto a plate if desired.

EAT ! (this can serve 2 if you want to feel slightly more virtuous).

And why is this the most dangerous cake recipe in the world?

Because now we are all only 5 minutes away from chocolate cake
at any time of the day or night!

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, DH rode his motorcycle in this morning...and it was in the upper 40's! He is a nutcase.

The grad party is the 8th. Starts at 2:00.....I won't make the salads until that morning. If I have to start cooking Friday night...I will. Not doing anything too fancy. We are having beef on weck, DH will pick that up on Friday. Veggie trays, fruit platter, and possibly doing some hotdogs on the grill for little kids.

Between our cats (I don't want to tell you how many, I am already a nut case) and the dog, I have quite the menagarie of animals when you toss in an almost 11 year old bunny, a 6 year old ferret (was DD's husband afraid...grand got it) and 3 cockatiels (one was my Moms) and my mothers beta also! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

That's a big 'wow' Debbie..holly smokes..that's a lot of critters...

Almost unheard of 40 in July...

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, most of them are from kids growing up and marrying...and not taking beloved pet with them for reasons of "apartment won't allow" or other issue. And of course I attached to them so didn't fight it. My two birds are at least 11 & 15 yr. old if not older. Moms is probably 8 years now that I think of it.

Our cat Franky has severe neurological damage. He was doused in motor oil and someone tried to bury him alive.....he moved in. The house he lived in was condemed and torn down...right across the street from me. The two neighbors there bought the property and turned it into a beautiful little park.

Most all of them are rescues and have some issues....a couple are just a pain in the bottom!

So yes,

Victoria Harbour, ON

wow, you remind me of an elderly lady down the street from me, Yolanda, anyway she takes in every stray she sees and now people just drop them off to her, she's in her late 80's..not sure what will happen to them once she's gone..

You know, I drop in from time to time, mom gives her $$$ and food for animals and you cannot smell animal odor in her house...as fresh as fresh..

A few girlfriends do a collection for her from time to time to give her extra funds, vets give her discounts, a darling lady..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, he will be on light duty for the first 3 days this week, He has Thursday and Friday off for my knee surgery, so he will be going backto work gently!
Debbie, please tell me what beef on weck is?

Victoria Harbour, ON

That's great they let him do that Linda Kay..

As for your operation, will you be completely bed ridden or are you able to move around providing you don't put weight on your knee...sure hope it's not a painful thing..they do wonders with lazers now don't they..do you have a project you can easily do while you are re-couping? maybe cutting out quilt blocks?

Wondered what beef on weck is as well..thought maybe beef on a stick?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

It is not laser surgery. It will be the old fashioned way, with a small scalpel, and stitches when I am done!
I willprobably have to take it easy for a few days, but will start therapy next week. So I am hoping I will be walking in about a week or two?
I have several quilt blocks cut out, and will try to get to them soon. Seems like these months re going by so fast! Here we are at the middle of July already, and before we know it, Christmas will be here. By the way, have you decided on the next online tutorial project?

Lyndonville, NY

LindaKay, beef on weck is basically a sliced thin beef, in an au jus broth....and put on what they call a kemmel weck roll...which is basically a sandwich roll that has these little onion with salt and seed things on it....I don't like those rolls....I use regular kaiser rolls...but that is just what it is called. People usually eat mustard or horseradish on the sandwich. It is a biggie in the NY/Buffalo area.

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Beef-on-Weck/Detail.aspx

Edited to add...little red salt potatos also go with this really well.

Looks yummy Debbie...can they be made from within a car???? lol...I'd better get you home on time or there will be h*&l to pay right?

LindaKay I'm sure you are creative enough to find a way of being able to lay in bed, some type of t.v. tray holding your sewing machine so that you can sew away...

I've got to get to the August quilt block shortly before I get behind..one of the places I want to stop and visit this weekend is Joanne's for more fat quarters...want some????

Christmas, now don't you laugh, it's not that far away..already we've signed up for the Christmas apron...I should start to organize what the 3rd Annual Workshop will be....I've loads of things but all involve sending heavy pkgs...soooo will have to think of something different..I always come up with something so am not freeting...omg..something came to mind..have to check it out..wonder who still has one not stored in boxes... hmmmmm

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, right now I don't care if I miss the party....although I know its not a good idea. Ready to string up some girls. Not Shannons fault...the older two need turned over someones knee. And no...it isn't hard....everything will go smoothly. We buy the beef already cut.....so I just put it in a crock with the juices to heat up and add spices.

No, they can't be made in a car...LOL But I could make them and bring with for our lunch possibly....not so sure how warm they would stay...and travling in heat.

Actually...when your here with your DM this weekend...almost all restuarants around here serve them. So give it a try. If you can't have lots of salt...I would suggest asking for a "kaiser roll".

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I think I have enough fabric for now. I bought a bunch of fat quarters in San Angelo last week, when I went for my back Dr. So that will keep me busy for a bit.
Never heard of the sandwich, but it sounds good. Close to a french dip maybe? Thanks for the recipe.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, I wanted to add...we "only" have seven cats. Ages 3 to 9...no new ones in the last two years.

As I said...they were all peoples discards and abused in some way or another....except for Huck & Dexter. Dexter & his sister...who passed away from cancer four years ago.....their mom wouldn't feed them because they looked different from the other kittens. Mom was a pure siamese...but they didn't look like the other siamese...and Mom snubbed them. I have had Dex since he was 10 days old...and hand fed him.

Huck was dropped on our front porch by the teenager who lives next door...as his dad said No kittens get it out now...and was known to abuse animals....so Randy did a sneak and dump on my porch....which I found out after Huck was here for two years. Some of you may know of Huck with his romance with Souky on the Pets thread...she belongs to Meezer (Shiela).

Lyndonville, NY

Linda, very close to a french dip! I actually like the french dip more.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Linda Kay, you'll just have to keep a journal of what you have, what you need and when you make these trips away from home pick up stock..have you had luck with ordering on the internet ??

Will have to go in search of one this weekend Debbie..soooo funny, when I was at the table yesterday with family (sister, SIL, Aunt) mom said 'now where did you say we are going?' so I mentioned just outside of Ellicottville the Casino for her to gamble, well she says 'I'm not interested in spending the weekend gambling, don't mind if we drop in for 5 minutes but that's all'...omg almost chocked, here she's been asking and asking about going to that one and the one in Buffalo..different story when others are around...so for fun this weekend I'll say 'no sense in going to Ellicottville if you are not gambling'...

Lyndonville, NY

Betty...dare I tell you of the Casino in Niagara Falls...right down by the falls on the American side?

What time are you heading back on Sunday, any idea?

Victoria Harbour, ON

I took her there last time and watched her put in $100's...lol...kept thinking of all the things I saw at Christmas Tree shop that I could have bought for that..think we were there all of 1/2 hr..lol...

My plan is to leave the office on Friday at 3pm, pick her up in the city and most likely start for the border at 5pm or maybe wait an hour or so because of traffic...should cross the border by 8pm..get a hotel and then get up extra early Sat. morning and drive to Ellicottville..I've friends from here that have a cottage there..asking me to stop and have breakfast with them...then do her casino and back Sat. afternoon to shop till we drop..Sunday morning most likely she'll want to go to the Niagara Casino (maybe not), so not sure of plans of when we're coming home, not too late because after I've dropped her off I've still a few hours of driving to get home...
