I have not ordered any fabric online. I know there are lots of you that have, and with no problem. But I just like to go and look, and feel the fabric. Run my fingers through it, to see if it is to thin, not thin enough...
Someday, I may have to go online to shop. but for now, I will plan out my shopping trips with my Dr runs to other cities where they have the fabric stores!
Best/Worse &What did I learnt today/Chat with Friends #114
How far do you have to travel for your operation??? A few of the paint (decorative painting) are closing in this area as well, a few community craft shops too..makes it difficult to get materials..not sure why because you still hear of so many doing either crafting/painting/sewing..someone must have the trend confused..
My surgery will be here in town. About 8 miles away! Not far at all.
Someone needs to smack these places in the head. I know times are tough right now, but when Wal-Mart closes the last of the fabric shops in the area, they should have done some homework?
Someone please let me win the lotto. I will open the fabric shop, right after we get back from our Dave's Garden cruise!
LindaKay, I'm with you..Wednesday night we have Loto 649 and it's 32 million tax free dollars ....got to purchase some tickets..someone has to win...and yes, we'd all be cruising somewhere...
The thing about the Walmart putting smaller establishments under is now that they are all under and closing they close their own craft/material department..doesn't seem fair for sure...
Quick wave to everyone......had to take my car to the shop this morning to have some work done, hopefully will have it back by the end of the day. Have Chiropractor appointment this afternoon.....
Need to get out and work on ideas for shading the pond a bit more...it is getting too much sun.....well not today....it is 60 and cloudy. They are saying warm weather is returning and I wish it would hurry. At any rate need to clean filters and go from there....
Hope you are all having a great day.
Body still aching Trisha..think you overworked yourself a few weeks ago doing all that gardening...
Shading the pond...hmmm with a tree? or are you thinking of some type of garden art???
Hope nothing serious with the car...
Judy, are you floating around in that pond...
Carol, been awhile since I've heard from you ...how is the gardening going???
Betty I think it is mostly Age, but it is back issues I have been fighting for many years (started with a Gym we went to years ago, now out of business). Andy (the Chiropractor) belongs to our bike club and I have heard a lot of good things about him....sure hope he can help.
The pond......today's DG article on ponds came at a perfect time! I need more plants on the water surface for starters....and will try a couple of the other Non-chemical remedies that were recommended in the article.....I have the correct pump and filter......would love to have a tree, but we are limited (by the owners) in what we are allowed to plant in the front yard.
The car.....bad Tie Rods, they have needed replacing for quite some time......several other issues...it is an Old car....
Tie rod ends, now that's not cheap to repair is it? Just had a look at my tires, omg, got to go and have some put on..always something with a car isn't it...
Water plants are what creates shade for the fishies...how many did you get or am I mixing you up with someone else...
Having a tree directly over it isn't good either...because I have no fish and don't put in pond plants I empty it from time to tme and change the water..thank goodness I'm on unlimited water because it takes hours to fill...
It's really quite cold this evening, wind is up, just closed all the windows that were open for afternoon fresh air...will sleep like a baby with it being this cold...
OMG I almost died ..dropped in to Bernie's tonight to check up on him, he's prome to pneumonia and he has it again, anyway, his 1st wife took off with my DH's brother Rene goodness over 20 years ago now..her mom/dad have passed on and she's now a millionaire..anyway..she was pregnant with my BIL's child when she left..she had told my brother it was his ..Bernie had a vasectomy a few years earlier and so went for blood tests and found out it wasn't his...
SOOOOO today she calls him, now that over 20 years ago, wants him to call the doctor to get the paternity tests results because there is a little bit of native blood in ex-BIL family (her now hubby) so his child (whom Bernie was originally told was his) could get a savings of $10,000 in his schooling for a doctor...so she asked Bernie would he get the papers so she can file them to get her son's Metis status...here she is with all this $$$ and still trying to get discounted schooling..amazed at some peoples children..not being nice towards her, I'd say no...Lord will get even with me for that one....
No sooner had I posted that friends called to say they were up at their cottage in Midland..wanted to visit before the weekend but I'm busy/busy so took a ride into town and had a lovely chat...
Bob and Barb were friends with Roger and I..they owned a motel about 200 miles from here where Roger often stayed..we've kept in touch since Roger's dead...Bob is such a character..shaking my head, tummy hurts from laughing..omg Tubby you and he would be such pals...
Bob had prostate cancer and has his protate taken out..he's healing well, kept his sense of humour..Barb is such a sweetheart...their actual home is St. Jacobs, mennonite country..so glad I went to visit...
Best of the day....got to be
- hearing from AnnMarie..she out of the hospital, feeling
much better, said that she'll be back with us shortly and will catch up and thanks us for prayers and kind thoughts...hubby is taking her to the cottage to keep her away from work...she
must rest...but then she said she might bring her sewing
machine with her sooo she's not being as good as she
should..am sure her hubby will keep her quiet though..
-getting the call from Bob and Barb tonight
Worse of the day...learning about Bob's cancer
What did I learn...that this old gal can stay up beyond 8pm when she has to...and sooo enjoy laughter..friends are great aren't they..I always get a kick out of Bob..when he calls his message is 'this is Bob Warry with a story, want to hear it, here's my number, call it'...just too cute
Oh sorry I left you guys today, got busy at work then the good day went South. Mondays!!!
Betty prayers are going out to your friends, my goodness.
My mom just told me about a tornado somewhere in Ontario about 3 fisherman that were killed in a tornado, have you heard about that? She could be wrong about the exact location.
Debbie I want to meet you too girl! I haven't found anyone to come with me, but I haven't been looking real hard either.
That does sound like a French Dip, I love Au Jus (however it's spelled lol) but I hate horseradish and not very fond of mustard either.
Morning all...
Crissy, yes there were 3 fisherman and I believe one still missing...hit north of Thunder Bay..quite northerly for tornado's but it did...
Odd, my dg friend in Thunder Bay has been posting the nicest of weather, little rain, high temps and we're getting their weather..such a mix up this year..
Can't stay long, Sailor vomited all over...of course no carpet in any of the rooms except a 6 x 9 scatter rug in the living room and where is she sick, yep, right on the rug...took out my rug cleaning machine and that's behind me but think I'll be purchasing a rug shortly..let's see, new tires/new rug *****
drats and more drats...
Still have to drop into Bernie's...Suzanne needs a deck built around her pool that is being installed and a front deck, wants Bernie to do it, but he's quite ill with pneumonia so not sure how tht will work out....
Hope your morning is sunny and filled with fun things...
morning all,
debbie, lol i am a basket case! its the waiting game with dh, omg saturday will never get here! i cant wait for the surprise to be over then i can count down for the trip.
judy, 19 more days whoo hoo!!! omg my stomach cant take any more excitement lol
how's skiddles doing? what are the kids up to? my boss gives me a bad time everyday she keeps saying the "count down" .
and the dog yaaaay pills are working great he hasnt been itchy at all, now the boss said she wants to have another garage sale in late august, geeez at this rate my house will be empty, but thats a good thing!
kenny would be tickled pink to have no clutter, actually it would save him from bringing home the escavator ( thats the usual threat) lol.
betty, oh poor sailor, how is she feeling? hope berrnie gets well soon how did he get so sick geez? i hear you on walmart, but its still my favorite place to shop! our citys fight them to keep them out! thats why we have to travel 2 hours to go to the super walmart
wish they didnt take out their fabric section,
except for joann's and hankock's we dont have any fabric stores left such a shame.
did i hear 3rd workshop in the working????? oh so excited to see what you come up with will be a fun time again..
crissy, excitement brewing with you too hope you find someone to go with you.
tubby, how are you doing?
anjl, good news for you, wishing you a speedy recovery.
trisha, hope you feel better, got to go read that article,
oh wow planting restrictions? was their a comotion before that they feel strongly on the matter?
hello everyone else have a wonderful day
Liz, still say this trip should be YOUR birthday gift and not Kenny's..I'm just as anxious as you are to see his reaction..garage sale is a good idea, you'll need $$$ after your trip...lol
So much planning and it comes and over with in no time...you'll enjoy for sure...
This weekend I'm only going for 2 1/2 days and there is much to do, make sure I have Cathy's favorite snack things as she's coming to look after the animals, get travel insurance for me and mom, exchange $$$..all for such a little time..ooops better not forget my passport...
Here I was rushing around and I've been here since 8:30 .. all on me own..think I'll get my sketching paper out and play!
Good Morning Ye All!
I'm going to be busy again today, got the fight diffused, going to be a busy day again today.
Wow Betty, that's too bad about those fisherman. I hate tornadoes, in case no one knew that yet. LOL
Like I said, I haven't been looking real hard. Maybe if I post something on Midsouth...
Well I've got to get to work, have a good day! I'll come back if I can.
Always nice to be busy Crissy, makes the day go by rather than sit and try and find something to do...I'm watching 'Most Unusual Jobs' here on t.v. so funny, showed a woman who teaches 'pole dancing' house parties...looked like sooo much fun..lol
then I've still about 1/2 book to read "The Shack" not sure why I'm not really enjoying it..librarian said you either love it or dislike it' not sure which for me...
The my sketching....got to do something..bored to death!
DG is quiet of late so I flit from place to place, look at the clock, see it hasn't moved..what a job...you'd think one would be excited about having a job like I have but not, too long of a day..especially when sunshine is peeking through the windows..think about what I could be doing at home, but then, I wouldn't get a paycheck would I???
Good morning,
Betty you always get so much done so early in the morning...you will have to light a fire under my behind! LOL Not really...I have been up early even with the kids out of school. Keeping your DB Bernie in my prayers. I am known to get bronchitus easily, so understand his problem. Not fun.
So much to do today with running errands. Still papers that need notarized and taken care of for DDs college. Hoping to get it all done early so I can get things done at home.
Liz, you are very good at keeping a secret...I would have blown it. LOL
Crissy, everything will work out...be patient. (listen to me! haha)
I am having guilt feelings. Well not really...but sort of. Tomorrow night DH is going in for his sleep study....and I am so excited to get a good nights sleep....and to maybe get a movie to watch or such! LOL Praying he does OK and we find out what is going on also though as he has scared me a few times.
Ok, Off for coffee....waving good morning to Tubby, LindaKay, Judy, Sharran.....and so many others
Debbie
Hi All..Thanks for asking...My hemoglobin count is down..So I'm pretty week..No energy..Shirley didn't like leaving me alone..Had to promise to take it VERY easy.....
Tubby is it the meds that is creating the low count or lack of them..you must not be feeling well to say you are 'week'...sorry to hear that...how long will Shirley be gone and do you have someone to check up on you from time to time...now don't you go MIA on us or we'll surely flip...
Sending you prayers and soft hugs dear friend...NO gardening unless it's a quick walk outside to pick a tomatoe...
Prayers Debbie for your DH as well...I'm sure once the test has been completed they'll be able to perscribe meds which will help him...Bernie has suffered from brochitis and pneumonia all his life..lungs are quite damaged...although he soooo needs the work not sure he is well enough to undertake the building project at Suzanne's...
Morning everyone.
Betty, sorry to hear about your friend having cancer! And your friend with pneumonia! Will be saying prayers for them.
And poor Sailor. Why is he getting sick? Some cats just g et hairballs that make them do that.
Hope your all having a great day!
LK
Betty, my damage is from 2nd hand smoke. If I am with someone smoking, it is a matter of time before I have a respiratory infection brewing. I have an inhaler I carry with me at all times now just incase....which reminds me better have that refilled before our trip! LOL
So pretty out today, but actually quite chilly. DD went outside and came back in for a sweatshirt.
I fed the cats, but trying to figure why I have three of them sitting here at the computer desk.....staring me down. I think it is because the windows are not opened and they want to bask in their sunbeams.
Tubby, please take it easy....and feel better. Make sure you eat foods with protien and calcium to keep you strong. And nap! I prescribe that for everything though! LOL
Betty poor Sailor, how old is she again? I have a mild form of Asthma and get Bronchitis every time I catch a cold, and have had Pneumonia from it several times. I feel for Bernie, I know how that crap can make you feel.
Well I need help and told my co-worker about 40 minutes ago and she hasn't came up yet. My Goodness what does it take to get work done around here? I'm more of a fast paced environment person. Once I start screwing around I don't seem to quit :p
Debbie that's hilarious, I fed Tiga (Teega) last night and was sitting at the computer, next thing I know here she comes at a full trot, tail straight up in the air, meowing real loud (she has a soft high pitched meow, so when she yells everyone knows it.) I asked what the problem was, she just cooed, jumped up on her stool, and went to sleep.
Well I'm having stomach problems, feel like I'm going to fall on my face and sleep, and it's lunchtime so I'm going to get some Taco Bell! Not healthy but yummy!!
Drats, had written a long post, Suzanne just came in asked me about weekend weather, well, let's just say my post is not longer...
Sailor is a border collie and she's about 12..didn't change her food, guess she's just not well..
As for DB Bernie, well it's hard to feel sorry for him at times, here he is, can't breath but he's got enough energy to light up a cigarette..guess can't blame everything on cigarettes, dad had same and he's never smoked so there you go...
Almost lunch time, not sure if Suzanne will be going as she came in at 11am but should, she started to work at 7:30 am yesterday morning and left at 7:45pm..she deserves to come in late...
Think I'll try and put off going to lunch at least until 1:30 and that way the afternoon would fly by...
Had fun this morning, on facebook a few weeks ago I accepted as friend a young man with last name 'Pauze' this morning we were on for about 1/2 hr. - made sure I told him I was a 61 year old grandma..he wanted help with his english so I said I'd be more than pleased to gab with him and help...he's 19, parents are fairly well to do but will not support his efforts to continue his education in the 'art' field..he says his heart and spirit isn't in bussiness adm. so we had a nice gab...he's from Lyon-France... quite interesting...
Crissy, seems staff at your office aren't very helpful..can't u nderstand why, everyone works for the benefit, at least I would hope they do, so that they have a job..company prospers/so does the employee...now days it's more than important...
You've lots to do Debbie getting organized for fall with College and all..must be overwhelming at times..look at the bright side, before you know it, it will just be you and hubby chasing each other around the table...
Ooooh Suzanne just said Bernie is going over to her house to take measurements and fill application for municipality for building the decks, so guess because there may be another week of waiting for the actual building permit that he's taking on the job..hopefully he'll be ok by then...must drop in tonight and see if after he meets with Suzanne he can come over to the house to see what I need to put all the doors on the bedrooms and downstairs rooms so I know how much to save in my piggy bank..lol
Here I am playing..
Yippie!!!!! I'm off to get two units of Blood....
I'm glad you are getting "liquid food" Tubby...how long will it take you to get 2 units...you are not alone are you? not that I could do anything to help even if I caught the first plane out..lol..
Let us know how you are doing....
AND
R E S T
Betty not when you work for the Government, State is totally different. We're all grateful for having jobs, but it's nothing like private sector. They aren't constantly cracking the whip over your head like they do in private sector. Nor do we have any other problems, like scheduling problems...
Tubby you got me worried. Is your body using more blood than it's making, or is it just the medicine?
Crissy, it is probably from his medicine, it is a form of chemotherapy for his treatments. Unfortunately...it is a normal side effect for this type thing.
So glad he is getting his "tank" topped off....and will feel so much better.
Ok, sad sad sad news.
My step-dad's third cousin has been stricken with some sort of disease, I don't remember the name of it but do know it's not any type of cancer or HIV. A few weeks ago she was running a fever, apparently had been running one off and on for awhile, plus nose bleeds when she doesn't have nose bleeds. Apparently the dr wouldn't listen and they finally got a blood test done, by that time she had no red blood cell count, no white blood cell count, and no platelet count. The poor little girl has to get blood transfusions about every 3rd or 4th day, I guess, and is in the hospital more than she is out. She has no immune system and has to stay away from everyone, except the day of a transfusion.
The only way to control this disease is to do a bone marrow transplant and are looking for a match for hers. They tested her parents and the 3 other siblings, the parents and her two brothers aren't a match at all, and they're almost certain the other daughter isn't either. She is to the point now that after a blood transfusion she plays a little, the next day she's tired, the day after that her fever's back, then she bleeds through her skin. They're pretty sure they are going to have to find a donor from the list, but if they wait much longer at all, I'm afraid she isn't going to make it. There is no cure for this disease and will have to learn to live with it for the rest of her life. Please Pray for this little girl, her name is Megan.
Prayers for Megan...omg Crissy, I'll have to go through some of my things from when Roger died and try and find newsclips and letters I received from a lady in same shut down unit as Roger...
You've brought tears to my eyes, here was a young woman, doubt she was 20 (can't remember right now) anyway her mother would sit near her bedside, this poor child would scream in pain, blood coming out of her ears/mouth/eyes..they'd give her blood and within hours she'd be walking, telling jokes etc. then as the hours would go by shed' be back in bed...
It was a rare disease, her mother sent me a letter after Roger died explaining a lot, apparently she had 3 girls and a boy..the first child she had, they didn't find out until she was about 8 that she had this disease, already they had a 2nd child and wanted more children... the doctors guaranteed them that no way could she possibly have another child with same disease because it was so rare so she had 2 more children..shortly after the 1st daughter died, they found out the 2nd daughter had it and shortly after the 3rd daughter...that's where I came into the picture ..she was the young lady in the bed next to Roger screeming...I remember (this is terrible) that I felt like I'd like to put tape across her mouth...her screams were shrilling, I was sooo tired, worried and watching my own hubby die..
Couldn't get over how the mom could just sit there, talking calmly to her without what seemed to me NO affection..she kept writting in her journal..that I picked up on and started my own journal of what had gone on those few short weeks just before Christmas and ended New Years Day with his death..so I've a lot to be grateful for...
They did have a life saving techniques for this young girl but she would have had to be transferred to usa and there was so much with it being Christmas going on and medical staff being off that they never did get her transferred, at one point a few days before New years they all but had to plane to send her but it fell through due to storms...then it was too late..
A couple of weeks after Roger died the mom mailed me a newsclip and a letter telling me that just hours after Roger died her daughter died..said she wanted to come and comfort me when I got the news but thought better of it and her own daughter needed her...I often think of this, thank you, I will go in search of the info for you and I think I'll write her to see what ever became of her son...
Hmmm sorry to blab, just brought so many memories back
But Crissy, it was platelets .. she had none and as long as they got blood she was ok but there definately was a successful cure for it...
Just got a call from Greg, he and I and Jeff and Mel will have supper together..but, as soon as I go home I'm going in search of that info..one never knows, it could help
Crissy, it sounds something like aplastic anemia.....or even a rare form of leukemia.
Tell them if at all possible, to get her to St. Jude hospital. They take the kids, regardless of having insurance and ability to pay. No family is turned away.
Betty, that poor Mom. There comes a time, when as parents with ill child like that, you feel so hopeless...and all you can do is sit and talk...and try and be a normal mom like they are used too. I can remember even thinking " give me duct tape" with Shannon at times when she was so ill. Nothing you could do to comfort her, and she would cry and scream hours on end.
That mom reminds me of Mattie Stephanic and his mom. Do you remember him? The little boy that was on Oprah and so many other shows. He had a form of Musc. Dyst. ...and so did his Mom. She lost I believe four, possibly five childrent to this exact disease. They didn't know until after Mattie was born, that she had it also...and was passing it on to them. Mattie wrote several childrens books, and he touched my heart so much...as did his mothers strength.
Crissy, Megan and your family will remain in my heart and prayers. So many miracles have happened and so many discoveries....even since my daughter was diagnosed. Never ever give up hope. How old is Megan?
Debbie
Megan is 8 years old, I think she's the 3rd of 4 children.
Debbie IT IS Aplastic Anemia, I knew someone would know and I would know as soon as I heard the name. Here's the wikipedia info on it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aplastic_anemia
They already have doctors in place and they're going to do the procedure in Dallas. The mom's SIL is a CNA, mom is in college to be an RN, and the hospital is donating an ambulance to get Megan there (they live in Oklahoma City) and they also have an apartment donated to the family in Dallas. They have it all set up, just need the matching marrow.
I've never met this part of the family, just want Megan to get well, or as well as she can.
I'll be back later, time to go home.
Crissy, Dallas Childrens Hospital is wonderful! Two of our nurses here at Golisano Childrens U of R Hosp. transferred out there. Our Hospital does networking with the top childrens hospitals in the United States. Those two top hospitals are Dana Farber in Boston, and Dallas Childrens.
She will be in good hands, and lots of prayers.
Travel safely home.
Debbie
Just got in, going to go through some papers and see if I can find the newsclip and her letter...
I believe it's what Debbie said as well..sounds familiar..
So enjoyed the b.b.q. pork chops and chicken..home cooked meal..we kidded with Jeff that it's his last meal before he hits the high sea..lol
Spent about 1 hr. going through all his trip requirements..he's got everything covered i.e. food/clothing/tenting and emergency..not so sure I like the bag that even has blood transfusion kit..
He's just so excited..all wound up just like a little kid..sure hope all goes well for him..
Boys are coming over for a bit, mom has a few things to move...then I'll go look for the paperwork...
Made it home! In 1 1/2 weeks my shift is going to change from 8 - 4:30 to 8:30 - 5. YUK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Oh I'm glad to hear that! Now lets get a marrow match!
Well, potted a couple of hydrangeas that I am rooting, did all my watering, and made garlic herb chicken thighs and now I don't want them.
Hello I'm home...Tank filled...They said it might take a couple days to kick in....
Crissy I'm going to take the time, others can skip the posts if they are not up to reading it, but perhaps there is something within both the letter and the news article that could be of help to Megan or one day the information might be useful to some other child ..
Betty writes...
Dear Betty, how have you been? Now there is a question not worth asking, of course the emptyness, the hurt inside hurts a heck of a lot and at times you feel like screaming, everything has changed for you and yet nothing in the outside world has change..I'm sure your heart is broken..
I do think though we have a lot to be thankfull for..
It's a good thing it is spring, lots of things to do outside and try to keep busy but when I get tired I feel the pain and hurt all over again! Last week was very bad for me, it would have been Charlen's birthday..and the girl next to charlene died April 3rd exactly 3 months after, she was only 24...a daughter of people we know, then my brother in law 55 in May. They say that life goes on, keep on trucking eh Betty, I so hope you manage..
I send you this write up in the paper. Our idea was to let other patients with Gaucher's disease know what is going on in the U.S.A.
The editor put it on the wire that means that other newspapers can pick up the story if they want to, but they made a whole page out of it and it makes me wonder if other papers might have found it to big to put in their papers...we thought it would give patients hope, sure hope many get to see it..
Well I tried to help get her for the cure, I'm just sorry it was too late for Charlene, but she suffers no more..
I so wanted to go and put my arms around you the night Roger died, you were being so brave and your boys were there holding you so I thought that I would let you have the minutes left alone with Roger just for you 3...
I wept like a baby when I looked at the clock and saw that the New Year was not bringing you joy...Charlene died but hours after Roger...
Take care Betty, be strong and say hi to all of your relatives and sons...
Betty and Dick...
Oh Betty, that's a very nice article. Brought tears to my eyes, that's very heartfelt.
Dave is 11 1/2 years older than me, don't think I don't think about that... Thank you so much for sharing that one.
