How many hours of sun do yours get, Lucy?? ... I think mine only get about 6 or so ......
These are extra Sweet 100s I planted late. Loaded!
Edibles - '09 - Part3
Not sure as it gets a mix of sun and shade all day.
It's interesting to try and figure these things out! I have some things planted in a couple different spots to see how one will do over the other.
This is the special turkish tomato shot from a bit farther out.
Also showing: sunflower Mammoth, champagne grapes, basil, zucchini, and a pumpkin leaf way in the back, cut off at the left.
OK ..I'm GREEN w/envy! Looks beautiful!!
Thank you, kindly, Celeste!
These all came from seeds from the Round Robin Seed Box Exchange!!
I really have to thank everyone here who contributed seeds!! I am most grateful!
What a bonanza, Willie---do you eat those very hot peppers? Katye--loved the fruit---I've never eaten loganberries---I used to have black & red currants, & gooseberries, & our Irish wolfhound loved them.
almost dizzy from all those photos... looking great!!
Very nice shots, Katye and Willie!! Lush, lush gardens!!
Sherrie - hang in there....yes, you were missed! You'll feel much better when you come and see my puny garden. Between the rain and the deer, I'm not encouraged. We had the last of the broccoli for dinner tonight with my DBIL and DSIL, who are here for the weekend. It was very yummy! I have small green beans, but I'm not getting my hopes up that I'll actually get any of them to eat, unless my formidable scarecrowettes do their job. I planted another 3 rows of Providers, so we'll see.....
Thanks, all!!
This is my first year growing any type of hot pepper, but I do like them in salsas, etc. I am going to look into recipes for salsa, picante and tabasco sauce. We'll see what I can brew out of that.
That is one of the reasons I also grew so much cilantro (coriander) which is already going to seed. I have cut them back once already since they have been planted.
I am very thankful to have had what seems to be perfect growing weather. I would call it rainy, since we get rain just about everyday, but enough time in between rains for some sun. I am trying to take note of how windy it has been, and I seem to remember a lot of hot, still July days, which seem to be missing this summer.
Katye is quite the inspiration to get in gear on the berry collection! I miss them. Imagine .... I lost a well-established blackberry bush! How on Earth does one kill one of those, you might ask? Well, it was planted under a pair of oak trees that grew to shade it out. One of those oaks has been removed, so now there is sunlight in that area again! I will try an plant another in the spot where mom had one so many years ago.
Willie, I didn't know one could kill Blackberry! They grow everywhere here - one is native, the other is Himalayan. Check out Raintreenursey.com - they have lots of varieties that you'd probably be able to get out your way.
You've been extremely successful with all your efforts toward the veg garden. Scratch the cilantro seed into the soil - you won't ever need to seed it again. I had cilantro growing all the way into january (2008) & that was a very cold winter for us - more snow than normal. But the seeds grew that spring - weird!
Oh, Thanks, Katye!
I have that nursery bookmarked now and will check it out! I think I remember reading that the best time to plant them is in the fall.
I will definitely try that with the cilantro/coriander in the fall.
My neighbors are the greatest !!!! They brought over bags of peppers, cucs and tomatoes tonight...I don't even need my own garden.
that is nice... I am finally getting cucs... picked 3 yesterday
picked my first batch of plum's recently, should have gotten pictures they are great.
I see quite a few peaches on my tree, but also many dead ones.
What a handsome guy, Louise! And I'd love to borrow him for my garden---the girls don't touch bugs!
I just cut them in 1/2 with my nippers!!
I have only very tiny cukes, but I did pick a few petite sweet peppers, about 2 inches round. I cut them in half, stuffed them with turkey Italian sausage mixed with a little shredded 4 cheese blend, baked them and served on top of Spanish rice. It was very good and cute too.
I have cukes that I haven't picked yet. I got impatient about the tomatoes, so I picked some green ones and got them to ripen in the kitchen window. Two are now red. Hope to have them tomorrow.
My cukes are starting to get toasted from mildew, but still putting out the fruit. The rains haven't been too bad, but it has been pretty humid. I've gotten about 5 nice sized cukes out of there already.
I have been pulling off the leaves of those which get mildew, and the new growth seems good. I may have to break down and start using a fungicide, as I am sure that will stick around, next year, now that it has appeared.
Maybe I should just pull the whole patch.
