Dark Brown flower - 15 % of fertility ! Sniff

Question :
With the Vigna Caracalla , to produce seeds I must make the hand pollinisation if there is no hummingbird in proximity ?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Dany, I love your vines, I like them going in every direction, and sometimes, I gently tap the flower as I blow little puffs to make the pollen move in.. I know, I am crazy lady..sorry I can't help you with knowing what is what, this is still all new to me.. your white and yellow are awsome,

Dany, the yellow MG I have flowering now is Ipomoea obscura, and I think you have an I. nil in that picture yes? That's a nice yellow one!

Dany, thanks... about the Vigna caracalla, I found my plant gets polinated by ants. Let me know if you want some seeds.

Elsa

Dany - I am absolutely blown away by your YELLOW blooming MG! Please, please if you get seeds from that one ... please share 3-4 seeds with me! I would so very much appreciate it! It is beautiful!!!

I am growing out 2 Vigna caracalla seeds which are now vines. Mine are still young plants, so no blooms yet. I will check out how easy or difficult they are to hand-pollinate when I get some blooms and let you know!

You vine gardens are just too special! Congrats on all the healthy and happy vines! Keep those photos coming! :-)

(Zone 7a)

Dany, your MGs always leave me speechless - you've begun quite an adventure for us with this thread - looks like a vewwwwwwwwwwy interesting summer coming up.

Karen

Dany, that Asagiri almost looks like what I called Blue Ray Mutant...maybe I got them mixed? My apologies if that happened.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I love that collection you are growing Dany, I especially like he pink un-named one.

Gorgeous blooms Dany.

Dany, are the leaves of this plant variegated? http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6775993

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6792181 this one looks like Kyushu's Q0631

Eliz

szarvas, Hungary

Eliz , this one has green leaf.
But this other one has variegated leaf and is absolutely not from the same familly .He is in a large container with 2 different Nil , every pod must have his tag !

Toronto, ON(Zone 5b)

lol I hate tagging......it rained so much here it blew away my other tags for the crosses. I was wondering if your blooms with green leaves are the same as mine...i also have two lavander blooms, flowers look alike, but one plant has variegated leaves and the other is just simple green.

Here are 4 different containers
10, 6, 2 and not 1 gallon .
For exemple in this 10 gallon container there is 4 plants of Grey Star ( Helena ) and 4 plants ipomoea Coccinea.
the 6 gallon container is good for 2 plants, here the pale purple from Becky.
The 2 gallon container is good for a new cultivar .
and the little container is on the Japanese fashion, here is a Mutant .

I have a Purpurea Kniola's Black with trilobed leaf and I try to produce hybrid with all the purpureas that I find .
Today, no wind so I hybridize 12 blooms .
First preparation , to take out of the flower the stamen .With purpirea it's not so difficult, because they are lower than the female organ.

Then to take the Father group , here Ao Murasaki Shibori Kongo

Hand pollinisation

Then to put the tag ( With big fingers Eliz , it's a torture ! )
10 days later you can see that the pot is a live - green or yellow ( abortion ), sometime you find the tag on the ground.

12 flower for 1 cross , it's too much .What do you think of that ?
here is a strange flower from Helena .

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Love this bloom: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=6802312 Do you remember what Helena labeled it?

I smile every time I think of ALL the vines you are growing! What an MG fantasy for me to even dream of growing so many at one time! I can't get over your "crops" of MGs and JMGs! Keep the photos coming! :-) :-)

Gautier, MS

Yep, I just love to see all these blooms you are getting!!

szarvas, Hungary

On the trellis , there is no place for everybody.
My first solution is to give for some vine they own stake.
Every day my garden is changing. In this part of the garden ,there is almost 380 vines and till now only 5 or 6 are blooming regularly.Others are still growing.... growing.

Thumbnail by dany12
szarvas, Hungary

Some cultivars will be maintained throughout their life as a runners (no place). I hope, it will not be much heavy rain.
In fact, the only way to grow lots of vines in a small area :each cultivar his own stake, like the Japanese do in Kyushu University.

Really nice blooms Dany.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Dany, will an MG cross with another if planted together? I have like three kinds in a pot everywhere.. just curious..

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Debra - I can answer that for ya - Yes! I have grown them together and yes! the bees did cross-pollinate them! :-)

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Dany - It looks like you have "hedges/shrubs" of MG vines everywhere! :-) Oh joy!

szarvas, Hungary

Thanks Becky
Yes Debra it will produce a big mixt.
I was thinking that I produce pure lines of seeds , when Koko posed a pic of Hamaginga Blue totally Blue I have had my first doubt .The second : a sowing assumed as pure ,present at least 6 different types of leaves. No needed to wait the first flower.

Here is a bloom that I use as father for a cross with my Blue Bird ( perhaps Morning Storm ) I hope to increase the size.
Baby Blue
