July 2009 in the garden

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

Very nice, really like that fern although toxic.
I have my star jasmine in a pot as it is not hardy here. It smells heavenly.

I remember jasmin and camellias from when I was in Hawaii! They were truly heavenly. So do you bring the jasmine in in the winter for a houseplant?

Yep, been bringing it in for about 8 years now. Stays full of foliage all winter and then sheds leaves and begins anew in the spring. I have saved it several times from mealy bugs.

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

Ewee! Mealy bugs..! well good for you. My house is so dry it makes it difficult to do any houseplant but I am brining in Christmas cactus, coleu, hoyua, varigated spider plants, green spider plants, some herbs and a few others.

I think I am gonna try to also bring in my begonias since I potted them too.

I never had any luck with begonias, too much heat or sun or poor green thumb?

Watseka, IL(Zone 5a)

....Well so far so good with the begoinas I have in pots. I also did a few cuttings and they took too.

This year my booger has been impatiens....

Thanks Blossom, do you think my daylily might be Stella de oro or girl scout poly? I've no idea!
I love the shocking pink one, whats the name of that? Jealous of your coneflower, it's so pretty.
So we won't be calling you Lizzy next then.. LoL!

Lovely Jasmine and lilies Candee! My Jasmine is making a comeback from the snow week we had.

I've got Begonias growing in little pots in the greenhouse, need to plant them somewhere.
Crocosmia has buds!

oooops, I'm up late again, night night!

Hi terri, well, I dont think it is either of them. Stella is only about knee high being a dwarf or short variety and the color is wrong for Girl Scout. My bloom of Girl Scout is a poly which means it has more petals than normal. I almost think yours might be a species hemmie, but hard to tell with out seeling it in person and even then I mioght be guessing! Can you tak a photo close up on the blooms throat? That might help.

No name on the shocking pink lily.. I guess we wil just have to call it SHOCKING PANK! LOL!

I wish I had tons of the coneflowers in the prairie. I have only a very few started out there and hope they do well and really make a show in coming years. I want all colors and only have the purple and a rudebeckia that is gold.

I hope I can make the begonias last for next spring.. it wil be a first attempt to try to winter them in the house.

Well, nitey note mate! Catch you in the cafe or here or there tomorrow.

Hmmm also, dint know you had a greenhouse!!! That remionds me, I best get into mine tomorrow and take care of some things in there. Well, see ya in the GPS4 if you get a chance!

Here is a cool night (_)? for you! Cheers! (_)?

Hi Sally, Thanks! It was getting dark when I took the pictures, the strawflowers are so bright!..
I will take a pic earlier in the day, they are staring to get a few flowers and looks so lovely. I know they say to cut them early for drying but I want to see them all flowering LOL!
I think our heatwave is over! Does it get cooler in the evenings or still humid?
